We also had the chicken Alfredo, I feel like this was good but it wasn't great..the leftover Alfredo the next day however tasted delicious.! How can i forget about that delicious bread! Oh em gee warm soft ! Can't wait to go back & try other items on the menu! The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 was because the Alfredo could have used a tiny bit more seasoning. The Mediterranean colors and flavors of this charming restaurant brightened up a damp spring night. My husband and I started with lightly fried calamari, followed by fresh salads. For the entree, we shared a dish of chicken Parmesan and spaghetti, which was big enough to feed three people. It was classic and delicious, with a rich, tangy marinara. The decor was unique and attractive. Art Deco glass lamps in a rainbow of colors hung from the high ceiling. The walls were painted with Mediterranean landscapes. Copper pans hung above the long counter of the open kitchen. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Another advantage of this restaurant was that it stayed open until 11 pm, in an area where most places close at 9 or 10. A great boon to the weary traveler. read more

Have been here numerous times and they are always consistent and good. Those people who are nervous because of COVID-19 they are really being responsible. Everyone who comes into the restaurant gets their temperature taken. Everyone in the restaurant is wearing a mask and they have hand sanitizers. We had the mussels and they are delicious. We also had the sea bass and the dish is so good. Very reasonably priced, probably $30 in Chicago but here only $24. The portion size is very good. They also have a very good beer and wine list. I have to retract my previous review. I visited yestetday and was treated as though we didn't belong. They weren't very busy but we waited for over 15 minutes before being greeted. When we were greeted no apology for the wait. We decided to sit in bar area once seated we waited yet again as we watched a white lady walk to the bar and was promptly seated and served. I've been to this restaurant countless times and knew the bar tender who usually greets me with a smile this time not even a welcoming smile or a hello. My neice forgot her wallet so we had to move to the restaurant area because she didn't have her ID. I totally understand so we moved. I asked if we can have a server right away as we've already been waiting for so long. Server came right away and we over drinks appetizers. Server forgot bread and made us wait until calamari was finished which we could of had our bread first. Asked for soda water and server forgot I asked for it. This was my neice first time here and it was horrible experience. I'm a foody and try to show her my best places and this time it was an epic fail. No apologies from the manager or server. I'm sad because I won't be back. You lost a customer in your backyard. But had the nerve to ask for a picture of us because it was Valentines Day and since my neice loves pictures we took one and the manager still offered no apology. This restaurant is down the street from my subdivision. Unfortunately, I was unimpressed. I've been here twice, and both times the food was just not good/average and overpriced. The first time I went I had the Homemade Ravioli. It was just so-so. I've had much better ravioli at other restaurants. The second time I went was for a birthday party, and I had an angel hair pasta with vegetables and some type of pesto sauce. I think it was the Angel Hair Primavera. My friend also ordered the same thing. It was HORRIBLE! She actually sent it back and ordered something else. One of the girls ordered the "Zucotto" (chocolate dome cake filled w white chocolate mousse and pistachios, served with chocolate and raspberry sauces) for the birthday cake and spent like $60 for it. Although it sounds delicious, it was, like the pasta, just so-so. Not many people finished their slice. I don't think I'll try this restaurant again. I'd rather go eat at Olive Garden. read more

Took my dad here for a late Father's day outing and really enjoyed this quaint, relaxed atmosphere. Was immediately pleasantly & warmly greeted by an older gentleman, whom I thought to be the owner or manager. We were sat at a nice table, with lots of natural light. The menu consist of good Italian food. We both started with a simple salad and bread and butter. I had traditional spaghetti and meatballs while my dad had hearty, cheesy lasagna. Ice water with lemon and lime to wet the palate is all that was needed to round out the delicious meal. I went for a group holiday lunch. It's a big space, and good for events. The service was good, and quick. The portions are big. Each of the entrees would have been enough for two, maybe with a soup and salad or app to start. There's lots of parking, it's basically in an office park, so there's plenty of space around. The lasagna was good, very meaty and piping hot. We ordered a variety of things, and everyone was happy with their food. The tomato soup was creamy and very ricy, a decent-sized bowl. They have these cool glass lampshades hanging from the ceiling, although my friends thought the ceiling was way too high, and you couldn't really enjoy the lights. The biggest issue--WHY was my water glass 90% filled with ice? It was genuinely undrinkable, not just because it was so cold, but because there was no water, so I would have been stuck chewing on ice. I asked for water and not ice, and they did it that one time, then continued dumping in ice for the rest of lunch. By the end it was all I could think about. Had a Dinner Party for close to 30 people. Salad, Calamari, mussels in sauce and other appetizers came out fresh, hot, fast and were delicious. Came here with my boyfriend on our way back from a weekend in Chicago and we're sure glad we did. First sign of a good restaurant came when we pulled in and the parking lot was almost completely full during an off hour (around 4 in the afternoon). Ended up finding a spot at the very back but luckily weather was nice and we'd eaten so much good food in Chicago that it was good to burn a few calories walking the extra leg. The staff was all super nice when we walked in, they even demo-ed the large automatic bread slicer that they had in the entrance when I asked how it worked. Super cool. The decor was very pretty as well with murals on the walls and pretty glass light fixtures. They even had echo deterring ceiling pads and a sound system hooked up to the roof. As for the food, I got the butternut squash ravioli and my boyfriend the spinach goat cheese pizza. They were both delicious and we both ended up with about the same amount of leftovers as the food we ate while there. I would definately recommend the ravioli. I was skeptical at first since I normally like some sort of meat or protein in my food but there was so much stuffing in each ravioli and the butternut squash was very smooth and tasty. The basil dressing and pasta skin paired very nicely and flavors really worked well together. The pizza was also very good. Dinner at Café Borgia has always been a delightful Italian dining experience. I absolutely love that they have a chef's garden where their team grows herbs and vegetables for use in the restaurant. The atmosphere is upscale casual and completely inviting. Each visit fells like a little escape. Another feature that I find charming is the open kitchen, no wondering what they're hiding back there everything is on display and makes for a very pleasant experience. The servers are always informed and polite. Now on to the food! Chef Mike does monthly specials featuring seasonal availability and inspiration. I can honestly say that I have never witnessed anyone in my party do anything less than devour the food here. While I do enjoy the changing specials, I do have my old standbys. I have to start with some bruschetta and some fried goat cheese. It's a classic no frills tomato bruschetta. The gentle fry on the cheese mixed with the bright marinara atop their toasted rounds of bread, mmmmm. If I wouldn't be judged, I could just make a meal out of that. I am a total snob when it comes to my pasta and I am very particular about where I will order it. This is one place that makes a properly toothsome pasta every time. The fettuccini alfredo is perfect in its simplicity. The linguine pescatora is a great choice when you can't decide, featuring scallops, mussels & calamari with your choice of red sauce or garlic and olive oil. The pork ossobuco feels like someone's grandma made it for you, so warm and comforting. You will not have room for dessert, but power through, it's worth it! A variety of sorbetto or gelato, cannoli, tiramisu, Zucotto (a chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse), or my go to favorite, crème brulee are all available. The only bad choice is skipping dessert! If you're looking for a nice sit down Italian dining experience this is the place. Overall really disappointing. My husband and I reserved this place for our first year wedding anniversary which was put in the notes on OpenTable. This wasn't acknowledged by the staff at all and we were put in a tiny table in the corner with little elbow room. The wine we ordered took forever, the server was very slow, granted it was busy but still over 20 minutes for wine is ridiculous. The food was also very salty - our appetizer and pizza was really salty. The pasta I ordered was terrible - no sauce and just chicken and mushrooms thrown onto plain pasta and I couldn't eat it. Our server didn't come to check on us until it was time for the bill snd we couldn't get the pasta taken off the menu even though we didn't touch it. Cafe Borgia has a good reputation in NW Indiana, and we found it is well deserved. The attentive service and cozy, comtemporary atmosphere stood out to me. The food quality was good (but not crazy good), as we had a range of items for a family dinner there - from mussels and stuffed mushrooms for appetizers, lamb chops, beef medallion (very tender), pizza, and pork osso bucco for dinner entrees, and bread pudding (good, but tiny!) and chocolate cake for desserts. Another plus - Alpha King and Pride and Joy on the beer menu from the very nearby Three Floyds brewery. What a disappointment! Lovely ambiance but very slow service. We waited between a half hour and an hour for our food. The dish I had was very acidic, had little cheese and was quite tasteless. My wife and I were warmly greeted by the host and given my choice of dining in the restaurant or bar. We sat at a table in the bar. We were greeted by the bartender and Bus boy, who immediately brought us a menu for us along with bread and butter. The bus boy poured our ice teas for us. we were impressed. We placed our order, of soup of the day and Baccala alla Romana: braised cod, onions, tomato, potato, Kalamata olives for me and GRILLED ROMAINE salad and Rigatoni sardi: rich tomato sauce, ground sausage, mushrooms for my wife. The soup and salad came out less than 5 minutes and they offered us shaved parmigiano cheese and ground black pepper, which we accepted. The soup was rich and delicious and the grilled romaine was sweet and a generous portion. All the while waiting for our entrees, the bus boy would refill our glasses and bread and butter. The Baccala alla Romana came with a large portion of cod covered in a light tomato sauce and roasted potatoes and broccoli. The cod was cooked to perfection and everything else was good The Rigatoni sardi was very tasty and filing. My wife had to take half home. Once again, they offered us shaved parmigiano cheese and ground black pepper, which we accepted. The food was very good and the service was even better! We had an amazing time at Borgia! We went there for my birthday lunch. Love the decor! I had eggplant parmigiana which is not on the menu, they made it just got me and it was fantastic! My husband had butternut squash ravioli, great freshly made ravioli. Very tasty! Kid had Fettuccine Alfredo. She loved it! Portions are very generous. Must try creme brûlée and passion fruit gelato. It's taken my three weeks too calm down and be unemotional before I wrote this review.The owners treated my family like parasites because my daughter isn't a supermodel. I believe her name is Karen, she kept complimenting the beautiful girl next to our table and would turn to us and astonishingly say, "well she's kind of cute." Who does that? And write frankly, I've could have better calamari in a sewer in Gary. Maybe they were mad because we said it was tough, but to make my daughter feel like a loser is disgusting . I am an activities director for a local senior living in the area. When our residents asked to go to Cafe Borgia of course I put it on our calendar for the next month. Well, today we went on our monthly lunch outing here--sat down and when asked for separate checks for the 6 senior citizens that attended this lunch outing they said there is no way to accommodate that whatsoever. So then we asked if we could just separate and sit at different tables and they refused to let us do that. So we had to load our bus back up with 2 senior citizens in wheelchairs, and 3 of our seniors with walkers and take them down the road to Carrabas where they gladly gave each of their customers a separate check as we requested. Then the manager called me-- her name is Karen (go figure) this is the message she left me: "Yeah Brooke my name is Karen Gesso from Café Borgia I was told by our manager that you demanded to talk to me we do not take separate checks Brooke I'm very sorry that that doesn't work for you people with large groups you should call in advance and find out if we did" Wow...the customer service is TERRIBLE!!! Is this how you talk to your customers and treat senior citizens?!?! "You people" "you should call in advance..." I have an idea Karen, how about you accommodate your customers. Especially our senior population!!! All of our residents were extremely upset when they returned back to our community and said they will never recommend this place to anyone. My family has been a fan since the original location, and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and service. Unfortunately I will never be going back. They completely ruined our mother's day plans, and the server I dealt with with was completely rude and in professional. Ordered our food hours in advance and was stoked when to be there. After waiting in line for an out and barely greeted by my "server" I waited another half hour and was told my food had y been started yet, n hour after I was told it would be ready, even though cars around me were getting there food. I loved this place. It's a traditional Italian restaurant which was fantastic! We came in on a Sunday afternoon after the lunch crowd so it wasn't crowded. We were sat immediately. The service was excellent, the bus boy was very efficient and friendly. The waiter was the same as well as very knowledgeable. The décor is very unique, creative and what you expect of a nice Italian restaurant. I don't usually mention bathrooms, but in this case they are worth mentioning. Probably one of the nicer bathrooms I've ever been in for a restaurant of this price range. Now you usually go to a restaurant for the food and they Didn't disappoint here either. I split a four seasons pizza that was delicious. The group also had spag and meat balls, great sauce and several huge meatballs. We also had a vegetable dish with chicken which she loved. We used to go to Cafe Borgia quite a bit before all this quarantine started and since they were closed for a while, I started to really miss them! We ordered on Mother's Day (which, I didn't really think about but seems to be THE DAY to order take out ;) ) Anyway, we called at 3:30, it was ready at 4:30, there was a HUGE line of cars, but it moved fast and was very organized an efficient. We saw all the restaurants in town had TONS of cars lined up and in the parking lots. All our food was nice and warm and super good. We literally ordered all the things...Mushroom Strudel, Apple Salad, Shrimp and Seashells (this is a new favorite of mine! I had never tried it), Penne Porcini (a definite go to fav), Spaghetti and Meatballs for the kiddos, The Americano Pizza (so good, never had this either) In fact, I haven't tried any of the pizza and I am a big fan, really great deal too! The Beef Shortrib and the Cheese Ravioli. To say I was stuffed afterwards is probably an understatement! Frequently I dined at Cafe Borgia back when it was in Lansing and continued when they moved to Munster, so I have been a long-time customer that has brought one friend to a large group through the years until October 1st when a very unsophisticated, inconsiderate, lack of concern, older woman who was hosting and had a very poor sense of the law. My friend and I came in before they were busy, and the hostess would not seat us because my friend who has a very well trained and well-behaved service dog not only tried to embarrass us but did a great job embarrassing herself and losing a great deal of business that day. She repeated herself several times before anyone could answer and loudly asked what the dog was trained for, finally my friend was able to give her an appropriate answer stating to her for her medical conditions and her safety. The irate women began asking again loudly what does your dog do for you and why do you have it. I told the hostess that my friend did not have to disclose her medical condition to her and that the dog not only had the jacket on with the appropriate documentation identifying the dog as a service dog but it was already disclosed to you what the dog is for and what it does. She kept repeating the question and was apparent that she did not want us there although we had been there at least a dozen times with the dog before and were always treated with dignity and respect! Previously when I dined with my friend and the dog also never did anything wrong by the way and is well groomed and exceptionally trained, we NEVER had any issue with anyone else. The other Hostess and Wait Staff were always great! It was very unfortunate that my friend had to be treated this way by anyone let alone that hostess. We will no longer dine here! read more

We stopped on the way to Chicago from New Buffalo, to go see a play. 5PM dinner was PACKED but we were surprised when they asked if both of us in our party of two were here and sat us down immediately (harder to get a parking space than a table this time, lucky us on both counts). This is an outstanding bistro that feels very much like dining in a place like Tuscany. The food is awesome - we had a polenta and cingiale appetizer, and then cavatappi and a lamb shank. All of this was excellent, and the cavatappi and the lamb shank with a couple of other things made a good dinner the next night. The lamb shank is insane - the meat really just falls off the bone, the sauce is delectable. We also had peanut butter gelato, and I also had a great martini. This is a place that has excellent service, is not at all pretentious, is family friendly (we didn't have kids but there were many of them in the restaurant), and just serves top notch food. The dessert was ok. I usually get cannoli with a cream base, although this one was loaded with pastachio nut crumbles, which I love, there recipe brought a different filling base. It tasted more like a donut batter. But the apple pie was sensational and fresh with their piping hot coffee! The Andy Warhol art deco was cool.
