We came for lunch and were greeted promptly. The place was nearly empty. Our order was taken pretty quick and the food came fast, but I am sad to say it was pretty bad. The retried beans had a sour, off taste. The rice was extremely mushy and overlooked. The enchiladas barely had any cheese in them and the tortillas very dry. Chips and salsa were grocery store quality. I had a bite of my husband's beef fajitas and they were a very low grade meat. This place must survive from cheap booze because I have had better frozen Mexican dinners. It is a shame because the people were nice, but the food was just not good. read more

We've recently moved to Arlington and were craving Mexican food. Thought we'd give Cafe Acapulco a try. WOW, so grateful that we did. We ate inside two times before the pandemic hit, and the atmosphere inside is great! It will be our first place to go once the quarantine is lifted. We look forward to margaritas on their outdoor patio. Since then, we've ordered takeout 1-2 times a week to support them. We can't emphasize enough the flavorful delicious gooiness of their queso fundido! It beats everything we've tried in various parts of Mexico the Valley and Puerto Rico. It's a must try for anyone that likes queso fundido. Thank you to the management and staff at Cafe Acapulco for making this quarantine a little easier by providing delicious take out. Under new management as of 03/18. We've been coming to CA for several years now, and always liked it, albeit understood it was nothing to write home about. The restaurant changed hands recently and several things have improved. The menu has been altered a bit, including the addition of several Salvadorian dishes that were not previously there. We tried an appetizer with sausage and cheese that came out on fire! It was mixed up and served in a burrito, and was quite tasty. I ordered the beef street tacos and my wife ordered the flank steak. The flank steak was very good and flavorful, still juicy. The street tacos were a bit bland, so I tossed on some of the appetizer and salsa and it was fine. Cafe Acapulco has been in south Arlington for decades and I've never eaten there. I was in the area during lunch time, it was chilly, so it was the perfect day for TexMex. All I can say was that it was OK, not the best TexMex I've had but not the worse either. The restaurant is definitely dated and in need of a "face-lift". The salsa, for my taste, was a bit mild and "wimpy". I like a salsa with more "punch". I ordered the lunch special that included one cheese enchilada and one beef taco. Both items were OK. The rice was quite tasty. My server was extremely friendly and upbeat. I was impressed with the service she provided me. Will I return? I wanted to try this place after always passing it and seeing that it is ALWAYS packed on weekends. They have a very attractive patio area, so it is extremely appealing. I am giving this place 4stars - the service was good, the food was good, and the drink was not weak at all. The ONLY thing I was disappointed about was the queso, which is a big deal considering queso can be expensive. It isn't like queso they serve in most places, so they might be trying to be unique. We've tried this place a few times because it is so close to home. Today was a not such a good experience. Nachos were fair, queso bland, would not order either again. People are friendly, food was nothing special. Margarita was good, BUT, after drinking half of the margarita, with a straw fortunately, I noticed lipstick stains on the glass, three of them! Welcoming atmosphere with plenty of booths that give you a sense of privacy because of the foliage and decor. The complimentary salsa, refritos and chips were delicious, the salsa has a hint of fruitiness that we really liked. My husband had the Carne Combinada, which offered steak, sweet plantains, fried yuca, Salvadorian rice and black beans which he found tasty and the portion satisfying. I had the Evan, with two cheese pupusas, a chicken tamale, Salvadorian rice, black beans and curtido. The pupusas were slightly crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside which made them easy to handle and provided a nice texture along with the curtido (pickled cabbage, carrots, and other veggies.). I've never had a moist tamale! They are usually somewhat gritty but this chicken tamale had a smooth texture and was tasty! We will definitely visit again! read more

We are visiting Arlington for the weekend and tried Cafe Acapulco for the very first time today. Not only was the food extremely satisfactory but our server Jared was absolutely amazing! We got three variations of enchiladas, kids chicken tenders (which were fresh not frozen), and street tacos. All very good along with the chips, salsa, and black bean dip that were served as starters. Frozen Mango Margaritas were also great! Jared was so friendly from the get go and made sure to maintain our table. Drinks were never empty and he brought the food out promptly. Definitely recommend this place. But, I was a little disappointed in my entree-pork tenderloin with ancho chili sauce. It definitely was not a tenderloin, but an over cooked pork chop & the sauce was not the ancho chile that I know, but something with a lot of onions (more like a bistec sauce).My husband enjoyed his meal of the sampler plate & I loved the bean dip & the margaritas. I haven't been there to eat in over 20 years, the family was out of town and didn't feel like driving to Cooper st to get some enchiladas so I stopped by , 2 cheese enchiladas and a sangria. Was met at the bar by a very nice lady that helped me with a menu and my drink order very fast, a tasty sangria thumbs up. She took my order and introduced me to a lady at the bar. Received some chips and salsa, at first the salsa look a bit too thin, but it had quite a bit of flavor, would have never thought, then my food came out the enchiladas looked like two pieces of shit with burned cheese over the top of it, the sauce was just the hot sauce with some chili powder added to it. The beans looked very pale and the rice had big Lima beans and green beans in the vegetable mix they added to it SMH The enchiladas first bit and boom, a hair! other than that they didn't taste too bad lol. The beans that looked bad were actually very bad, you could smell the sourness coming off the hot plate they were on, the rice was rice but just kinda weird having to pick lina beans out of it. I've been a regular here for many years. Ali was a nice guy with a lot of regular customers. He had the best fajitas in town! It's been sad and a little nostalgic since this restaurant changed ownership. At first we weren't excited about the changes to the hot sauce,fajitas or charro beans. But the fajitas are so good. Meat is very tasty. And I love the white queso. Today I tried the brisket tacos. I substituted fresh grilled vegetables in place of rice. So good!! I will get these again. Now the margaritas on the rocks were not great. I mean pretty awful. They need a bartender who can make drinks..I do suggest this restaurant but stick with a bottle or draft beer. read more

Were pleasantly surprised it offers lunch specials on weekends. We had the lunch fajitas & combination nachos. The salsa, guacamole & fajitas were good but nothing we'd go back for. Too many better options around. Nachos were decent but chips were more dense & greasier than most places. I ended up scraping the toppings off & eating them with the chips from the basket. Decor is outdated and dirty. My top shelf margarita was so bad I couldn't even drink it. (I can usually get through even a bad margarita & just not reorder but not this time). I felt bad returning it but there was nothing that could have saved this one so then I asked for a glass of chardonnay. She apologized & quickly brought me a warm glass of chardonnay. She did pull it out of the cooler so their refrigeration just must not be up to standard. Hopefully the owner reads this & makes some changes because we would LOVE to have a great mexican place right around the corner. They could use updated decor, a mixologist & bartender to get some exciting & drinkable drinks in there, a staff that cleans and a new chef. Or just sell it & let someone else start over because we will not be back otherwise. *First off I included an asterisk because my wife enjoys this place more than me. That being said, been here twice, service has not been good. First time, we had three different servers and were very unclear which one was our waiter/waitress. The second time, our server was A LOT better than anyone else had. When we were leaving, there was a couple getting up from their table headed to the bar trying to find their waiter from wherever he disappeared to. I can't remember what I ate the first time, but it was decent enough for a second visit. So second visit I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas. They were bland. My wife had a combination meal with sour cream enchilada and chicken flauta. The best part of her dish was the flauta. The sopapillas were tasty and came dusted in sugar/cinnamon. The sopapillas were the best part of the meal. I'd rather eat at local place than a chain any day. I'm hoping the owner reads some of these reviews and makes some changes for the better. We moved to the area recently and would like a local mexican restaurant to eat at. For now, I think that Campo will get my business when m'lady and I have a craving for mexican food. read more
