Tipico Salvadoreno
Janet S.

This spot serves Salvadorian authentic dishes. It is a very casual concept, so rating is based on that plus food. The ambiance is casual, quick service (I dined here for breakfast on the weekend). It's also a type of sports bar (there's a bar area and they have projectors playing live soccer games/sports). They also have a stage (perhaps for live music at night). It is family friendly and staff are bilingual. There is a panadería (bakery) section as well. They interestingly have live lobsters which are part of your menu platter selections. Pricing is very cheap for dishes starting as low as $7.99. The menu is extensive, so many things to choose from. I got the breakfast dish Típico Salvadoreño and would recommend to try for your first visit. They are also building a future buffet concept (probably complete by Fathers Day 2021)! -Food was very tasty (5/5) -Ambiance (4/5) (it is a little dark inside, but it was clean and spacious, keep in mind this is not a fancy dining experience, very authentic, casual look and feel) -Service (4/5) - quick service, plenty of servers for a Sunday morning

Pineapple cake! Yum!

Amazing tamales! Amazing Chicken nachos! Amazing pineapple upside down cake. The horchata had a lot of cinnamon in it. And a lot of the waitresses don't know how to speak english. But thats okay. Bought a buttload of food for $20. amazing!

No glasses with my soda or water. Fries were super old and some very soggy because of the soy sauce.

I have come to this restaurant several times and sometimes even twice in the same week and never have I been treated worst then this time. Our server was just so uninterested and plain rude. No greeting first of all, I asked her for Diet Coke and with attitude she said no, there's none. I asked her it's ok I can have from fountain, she said no, there's none only coke. I had to agree. My companion ordered water. We get served the soda and a water bottle and just dropped on the table. As I sit waiting for my order I notice they one of the other waitress goes and serves the next table a Diet Coke on a glass of ice. Saw all tables that all of them had a glass of ice and their choice of drink, to confirm I call her and asked what she served the other table and of course to my surprise, it was Diet Coke. As we were still talking my table waitress shows up and surprised I asked her "i thought you didn't have any Diet Coke" again with such nasty attitude said "ok I'll get you one of you want" I said no, I didn't want it anymore, she still brought to me and literally dropped on my table. I asked the other waitress I was extra disappointed and asked what was the rude waitress name, she gave me "Tanya" I told her to have a supervisor show up. She brings her manager and she didn't care. She said oh sorry I'll get you a drink if that's what you want. I told her how disappointed I was, she said sorry and just walked away. No more apologies. This place has gone down hill. It used to be such an awesome place but that has completely changed. No care on their customers, food is cold and not fresh at all. Restaurant itself is dirty, food leftover can be found under your table and this time I went to the restroom, I saw little roaches under their sink! I was extremely grossed out and impressed on how that place is still running. I will be contacting the health department as this place shouldn't be running under those conditions. I can only imagine how their kitchen looks like! Don't recommend this place at all, there are better Peruvian/Salvadoran restaurant nearby. Here are some pics so you can see how my table was served. BEWARE! **also, they all will take of each other. Came to find out that "nicer waitress" tried to give me a wrong name to not get her in trouble. As manager approached she immediately changed and gave her the right name since manager also said "whose Tanya" and felt pressured to disclose right name.

A little bit of everything on the buffet!

After a difficult time trying to find the place (navigation put us across the freeway on the other side) and trying to call the place and no one answering the phone in English, and hanging up when we spoke English, we arrived. None of the wait staff spoke one word of English. We did just fine. The place has great atmosphere, and reminds me of what it would be like eating in El Salvador. Hispanic music throughout, and Mexican soaps on the tv in the back. Very rustic and murals on the walls. We arrived at lunch-time so the buffet had just been placed out. We were amazed at all the offerings on the all-you-can-eat buffet! These dishes were especially great: Tamales de elotes- Deep fried corn tamales, sweet and crispy served with cheese, beans and sour cream Pupusas (Loroco, Frijol, Queso o revueltas) A hand made corn tortilla stuffed with beans, cheese, pork or both Sweet Plantain Empanadas Tamales wrapped in banana leaves Fried plantains Much to our delight the soup of the day was Sopa de Mariscos con Langosta Seafood Soup (lobster, shrimp, crab, catfish) However, we had no idea what else we were eating as there were no signs over the buffet trays. Every single dish we tried was delicious, hot and beautifully presented on the buffet. Large salad bar with gorgeous fresh fruits and salads including delicious Spanish Potato Salad. The buffet was clean and well stocked, the cook kept coming out to make sure everything was good. I would suggest ONLY coming to this restaurant during buffet. They have a lovely bakery inside the restaurant and you can buy really tasty cookies, cakes, breads and pies.

Pork Pupusas!!!

I have had their El Salvadorian tamales, which is different from a Mexican tamale in consistency and content. It had chick peas ( I think), potatoes, and chicken. The consistency was very loose. It is not a finger food. You kind of need to eat it with a fork. I'm glad I tried it though. I don't know If I'd order it again though. Now I come here for their pupusas. Delish and CHEAP. They are around $1.50 a piece, and you get sauce and some kind of spiced cabbage, which comes in a plastic baggie. I feel silly for not knowing the actual names of these foods. I had a room mate from El Salvador, and she turned me on to this stuff. I have tried both the pork and the bean and cheese ones. The beans ooze out of the pupusa while cooking, so they're not such a petty site when served, but they taste just fine. The pics on their website look great, but I have not yet ventured out to other dishes. Hopefully I'm impressed when I do.

They even turned off their open sign

We only had the take-out, but I was impressed with their Peruvian options! We'll be going in person sometime soon!

My first time I came here during my pupusas craving phase and made the trek here in hopes it was as good as I thought it would be. Its located on the corner in downtown Plano, it's a small location with parking behind the building. First time I decided on the queso, chicarron and revueltas( pork, bean and cheese) pupusas. All the pupusas were so good, the revueltas being my favorite. The pork in the revueltas was savory, I could actually taste all the ingredients and it had the perfect amount of cheese. Their salsa was ok, on the mild side. Still searching for a pupusas spot with really spicy sauce, but the curtido is one of my favs because it has that perfect vinegar kick that I love. Now.....I don't know what happened between my first visit and this recent visit which was maybe 4 months apart but it was like night and day in flavor. I ordered the chicharron and revueltas pupusas again but decided to branch out and ordered 1 chicken taco and 1 lengua taco. The pupusas were not the flavorful pupusas I had the first time. Also, the revueltas pupusas was really lacking in ingredients; I couldn't taste much pork or beans it was pretty cheese heavy. The chicken taco was just ok it needed way more flavor, but the lengua taco was on point it was very tender and not to fatty. Curtido still hits, mild sauce i could take or leave but the green sauce that I got was great, I hate that I only got 1 small cup because It really added good flavor to my food. I also tried the tres leches which is one of my favorite types of cake and it was not good to me at all. Despite the cake still having a few days before it expired it tasted old to me and had a flavor on the backend that I couldn't identify and made me wary of finishing it. The customer service was good both times and there is a good amount of seating inside. Maybe I caught them on an off day but because this place is not that close to me, it will be a long time before I return. Back on the pupusa hunt!
