I've been here a couple of times and both experiences have been meh. This most recent time, I got the ube bread pudding and the halo halo. The ube bread pudding has a scoop of ube ice cream that can be served on the side (in a cup) or on the dessert. The ube bread pudding was okay. It came cold, which I think ruined the tasting experience. Traditionally, bread pudding is served warm. The halo halo was lacking, in my opinion. It's supposed to have jackfruit but I didn't have any in mine, or must have been very little. The Frosted Flakes are also an... interesting touch. I like the more traditional halo halo that has red mung beans, macapuno, coconut jelly, and jackfruit, but Cafe 86 did note what ingredients were in this halo halo, to be fair. All in all, this personally didn't hit the spot for me for philipino cuisine desserts or for Ube desserts. This is a skip for me, especially with other Philipino places in the area. read more

Went here on a Friday afternoon and it was a little busy but my drink still came out quickly! I got the Strawberry Calamansi Cooler! The drink was very refreshing esp since it was warm that day. I thought that the balance of the calamansi juice and the strawberry syrup was perfect. It was sweet but also had a slight tartness to it. I also liked the strawberry bits in the drink. This is a cute place and the employees are really friendly and nice. We were in the mood for trying a new dessert so we gave us a shot. Truffle - I liked this, but it is very rich so I could only have like a spoonful of it per night. It's pretty tiny, but it lasted me three nights. Flan cupcake - this was just OK, but I also am not a fan of flan. We got this for my husband but he didn't finish it so I'm guessing it wasn't very good. Bread pudding - This was just OK. Ube cheesecake - I liked this a lot, but I also just love cheese cake. We had the upside down halo milkshake thing? Elements of this were good, but I found the actual Ube "shake" part much too sweet. I would've been happy with just the ice cream and toppings, with a very thin layer of the purple shake stuff. The Ube ice cream is also overly sweet. Very cute spot for drinks and dessert, especially since I'm obsessed with ube! They have a decent variety of drinks whether it's teas or coffee. They also have milk alternatives and you can add boba and some other options as well. The workers were really nice and our orders came out fast even though they were a bit busy! I haven't had a halo halo before, but have been wanting to try it for the longest time. So glad I got to try it at this desserts shop. Cafe 86 has a huge variety of ube desserts and drinks, so it was on my list of must try places when I moved to the area. I ended up ordering a pastrami sandwich and an ube crinkle cookie from here. I haven't heard much about the sandwiches here so I wasn't expecting too much, but it was surprisingly very enjoyable! The flavors complemented each other so well and although I'm usually not a huge mustard fan, I really liked it in this sandwich. The sandwich also came with a side of potato chips, but the chips tasted a bit stale when I ate them. I'm not sure if this is because they weren't fresh or if it's because it was packed with the sandwich and the heat from the sandwich caused the staleness of the chips. The ube crinkle here was SO GOOD and definitely lived up to my expectations. I liked how there was a decent amount of ube flavor in it. The cookie itself was also soft and moist which is how I like my cookies. Overall, I definitely recommend this and it makes me curious about their other ube flavored desserts. I really liked the ambiance of this cafe and it gives off super chill and cozy vibes. There's tables where you can sit at alongside couches; I feel like this would be a great place to catch up with friends while getting a drink and dessert. Service here is friendly and the person taking my order gave me recommendations because I was a bit indecisive as to what I wanted (because everything sounded so good). Stopped by for a few hours to do some work with a friend. Cozy shop that's really meant for chilling rather than working. Parking spaces in the lot are super tight so be careful when parking/navigating. Staff is friendly. I got an iced ube latte that tasted great but I was turned off by the $1.85 or $1.75 (forget exactly) upcharge for oat milk. I'd really like no additional charge for alternative milk but I'm used to paying $0.75 or $1 for oat/almond/soy. The highest I've seen before was $1.50 but now this place is the unfortunate winner. Total came out to be $8.55, which seems steep for a latte. I'm not from the area anyway so likely will not be returning. If you're into sweets or snacks, might deserve a try for their desserts. read more

The churrochi is similar to the texture of butter mochi. It's chewy and warm, and topped with cinnamon sugar & caramel sauce. It pairs really well with the Ube ice cream. Lovvvve this place. It's usually pretty busy here but when I went on a Sunday night it was surprisingly not. Ambience is nice. There's a few seating options: high table tops, couches, and a few regular seats. Parking in this area is horrible though! I ordered the halo halo, which was ok. This was definitely on my bookmarks for a while. Believe me, it was already busy when we got here like there was a line out the door and it wasn't even open yet. I had a giddy feeling because I had not been to an area in OC/LA where there were so many Filipino people and places. For instance, there is a Jollibee in the same complex! Eee! :) It seems like people come here in groups, so there's periods where it's busy and then not. There's not a lot of seating, maybe two tables, two couches facing one another and seating w barstools by the window. No outside seating. There's a lot to choose from as you can see from the menu I posted. We got the upside down halo halo, which was very tasty. I often ask for this without jackfruit, and it was amazing. It has coconut jellies, ube flan, ice cream, and a crunchy texture on top. I would have liked the red beans added but that was not an option. We also ordered the Ube cheesecake, which was good. I kind of felt like it was coming out of the freezer so a little more solid than i expected. The taste was delicious though! Space was clean and service was pretty good. Great spot for boba, tea, coffee and filipino treats. We love their coffee and boba here and I think so does everyone else! There was a big line on a Thursday night. The place was packed at around 7:30pm. I love the ambiance of this place. It was very inviting and a nice place to just hang out. They also have free wifi if you want to use the internet. The boba was great, cooked all the way through. Thai tea monster is my favorite. It's pretty much a Thai tea milkshake with oreos. BOMB. We also got a cookie monster with Boba which was an oreo shake. It was .99 to add boba and any toppings. So you're looking at about a $10 milkshake drink with boba. This place is definitely unique. I loved when it was close to us in Chino. I definitely reccomend the drinks and pastries! We were too full to grab one but I've had a few of them, and they are quite tasty. read more

There's more ube flavor with the ube base and the ube ice cream together. You must request for the ube ice cream, as the Upside Down comes with vanilla ice cream. Loved the coconut jellies, boba, flan, jackfruit and frosted flakes too. The flan is a slightly firmer texture, but all the textures worked together with the creamy, smooth ube ice cream. Not overly sweet either. Enjoyed every bite! Would get this again! UBE CRACK CHEESECAKE Not overly sweet. Great ube flavor coming through. Cheesecake was smooth and the Skyflakes crust was a delicious crunchy addition to the cheesecake. It tasted like a regular shortbread cookie crust. Size is a mini cheesecake, but it's still shareable. This was done well! Delicious! UBE TRES LECHES This was a tres leches flavor with ube. I think tres leches fans will appreciate this. Color is a Grimace-colored purple dessert. This was on the sweeter side, but still good. Dessert was spongy and super soaked in coconut, evaporated milk, and condensed ube milk. Tastes pretty good, even when eaten the next day. Topped with whipped ube halaya and cashew meringue. Didn't care for the toppings, but it did add a layer of texture. I have never tried their coffee or the halo halo here but one day I will. I am a fan of their chains. My favorite drink is the Rosie which is like a rose milk tea. Their ube treats are to die for. My favorite ones would have to the ube cheesecake, ube cupcake, and the ube truffles. I have spent over $160 on desserts alone in one visit. The desserts aren't cheap at $4-$5 each they can add up. However, they are worth the indulgence once in awhile. I've had their grilled cheese before but the last time I was here, it didn't taste as good. The bread wasn't as crispy and there was way too much cheese. I wouldn't order that again. With beautiful lights on the ceiling, comfy sofas, two kindly explained menus, well air conditioned space, great display of the pastries and excellent customer service, what do you need more? My friend I visited on Monday after lunch and there wasn't any line and less crowd, which was so nice but about 3-4pm, they started to have customers forming a line. The staff were very calm and patient with the crowd and served everybody like a champ. We wanted to order more baked goods before we leave the cafe but were worried that they will be out of stock by then but the staff told us that they have more in the back so it won't be late if we order later. We tried the Halo Halo, Ube Monster Milkshake and Ube Crack Cheesecake. I would say if you order Halo Halo, don't order Ube Monster Milkshake because it's basically the same base just a different toppings unless you like plain Ube drink. The toppings of the Halo Halo was quite impressive and it gets better when you mixed them all and have the first bite. It is definitely a MUST!!!!! The Ube Crack Cheesecake was another homerun. I turned into a tight aisle of parking with a dead end and had to pull an Austin Powers to get out which took up most of our time. Many cars were taking up two spots because all spots were compact. Aside from parking, I really like Cafe 86. It's a pretty small space with a cozy vibe. There's so many good things on their menu but I just had to try the upside down Halo-Halo. I also got the ledge flan ube cupcake and the ube crack cheesecake. The Halo-Halo was good but not great. I was expecting more flavor from the Leche Flan ube Cupcake. The ube cupcake part was really good. The surprise favorite was the ube crack cheesecake. It was bursting with flavor!
