This place sucks. The foods not that great and the service isn't either. My office is 1.5 blocks away and we ordered lunch 2 days in a row during some training. We asked them to have it here by noon both days. the first day it arrived around 12:45. The second day it was closer to one (the end of the lunch break). It was ridiculous. I went there today because it was close. It didn't appear to be busy and I ordered a sandwich to go. The counter guy said it would be about 10 minutes. It took 30. Other people that were dining in and had come in after me got there food before I did. To top it all off, they messed up my order (which I didn't find out till I was back at my office, of course). So yeah, I will not be going back, and I would not recommend it to anyone else either. read more

I live in Palmer and whenever I have to drive into Anchorage, Muffin Man is on my mind. I have their number programmed in my cell phone. The BEST turkey berry sandwich I've ever had, anwhere. The BEST turkey cobb sandwich...that I've never had anywhere else. Also, fresh ingredients, kick-ass bacon, and friendly staff. To the out of state person that commented on not serving on an expired ID - you got what you deserved, they were doing there job. It's not worth serving your out-of-state-ass a beer so they could have the distinction of having their liquor license revoked. Take responsibility for your actions. To the person that complained about no milk, only creamer for the coffee: REALLY? How often do you see milk on the table at restaurants now days? I'm sure if you bought a Latté they would find you some cream (cheapskate). I took my mom (from out of state) and her friend there. The friend paid for the (pricey) sandwiches we ate, and didn't seem too happy about it at first...she now goes there all the time BY HERSELF since she lives in the downtown area and realized what a treasure MM is. And finally, the last time I was in there, some tourists were there for the SECOND time that DAY to get (the same) chicken pesto sandwich....now what does that tell you? Muffin Man/Cafe817 ROCKS. Their sandwiches are very delicious, very big, and a very good value considering the cost of food an anchorage. Unfortunately they take a very long time! There were 4 other parties already sitting and I guess they just got there... There was one man in the back and one lady at the front and it took about 20 min to get my 2 sandwiches made. I have no trouble coming back here, but bring the paper and don't be in a rush! The cookies are gigantic and phenomenal!! Now that I could get any day!! read more

We used the Muffin Man, Cafe 817 to cater our business meeting. The food was mediocre, the pricing was outrageous, and the presentation was lacking. We paid over $10 per person for bagels and muffins in a box and fruit in styrofoam containers. The food and coffee was late, and interactions with caterer were very undesirable. Apparently he's never heard the phrase "the customer is always right." I would not recommend using the Muffin Man for catering. read more

First time downtown Anchorage, wow it was really cool. The company I was visiting sent me to the Muffin Man Cafe for my morning coffee etc and it was absolutely awesome. The staff was the best and the food and coffee was great. - I went back for lunch the next day and was pleasantly surprise on the Excellent scale as well. I highly recommend this wonderful establishment for anyone who is downtown. read more

We were visiting in Anchorage & were directed to The Muffin Man from a helpful lady working at Captain Cook Hotel. I have never had better muffins & I've eaten a lot of muffins in my lifetime. My question is: Will you ship some to Fort Wayne, IN? I love your blueberry muffins, but I would be willing to taste test a variety of flavors. We spoke with "the muffing man" while we were there, but weren't able to get back before we had to leave. Keep up the good work!!! read more

I have been exposed to Muffin Man inadvertently about three times now. Each time has been with a different sandwich, and soup. Like every restaurant this place has its ups and downs. The ups are really good, the Pastrami Sandwich is very tasty, and very much worth the money for a nice Lunch. The soups are homemade, and in my book, you just can't go wrong when you make your own soup, unless of course you are a total idiot....which Muffin Man is not. The downs, I had an open face Turkey sandwich from there, now the ingredients and the premise was good, (open faced on a bagel), but for whatever reason, it just did not mesh together...the soup didn't even help. But this is the only bad experience and that is good to keep in mind...if you are in the Downtown, and want to have a good soup, stop by, the sandwich's are hit and miss, but always worth the price, cause they do feed you well! First I would like to say the food here is good however the menu is very inaccurate or lacking information. First the online menu and the menu in the restaurant do not match or is missing information. I ordered a turkey sandwich which was twice the price posted. When I mentioned that it was more than posted I was told that the price posted was for a half of sandwich which was not mentioned on the menu. I was not given a choice or bread or roll, and once again the menu did not clearly describe the sandwich. the wait for food is very long, the only thing I ordered was a turkey sandwich and it finally arrived after 25 minutes. This was my third time here and food comes out slow, but it is good. When you order make sure you ask all the right questions so that you get what you want. read more

Good and service are great. Don't know what the negative reviews are about. Sockeye scramble was excellent, sandwiches are really tasty and HUGE. my son and wife shares one and only finished half! Muffins are, well... Amazing. I'm a realistic food snob from the lower 48 who loves small joints with friendly people and good food. I remember when I first started working in downtown Anchorage and Muffin Man shared a very small and cramped building with the original Wings N Things. The muffins were so amazing that if you didn't get there before 10am there wasn't much left to chose from. 20 years later MM is still on the same block and still turning out the best muffins, salads and sandwiches downtown Anchorage has to offer the breakfast and lunch crowd. Yes, even better than Fletcher's in my opinion. Downtown prices are a little steep so I don't buy lunch out often, but every once in a while I just MUST HAVE the Chicken Parmesan salad or the Turkey Croissant sandwich and they are worth every penny. The portions are generous enough I get 2 meals out of a sandwich or salad, and the ingredients are ALWAYS fresh. I have NEVER found browned lettuce in a salad or stale bread on a sandwich. And the soup! OMG! The fact that one person has worked hard for many years and never sacrificed the integrity of the product or the reputation of the restaurant to save a buck speaks volumes in the restaurant industry. MM is a downtown Anchorage tradition that we locals adore and would be lost without. Just ask the owner how much we whine when he takes a vacation. :) read more

Make sure your fax machine works. Maybe answer your phone. After trying to fax in an order for lunch early the same day as I was told, I tried calling and NEVER got an answer to put my order in. Walked down to the shop to give them my order and you would think the world had just ended. Like their day was just ruined. Swearing at me really topped my day. Thanks guys for putting on the best customer service show...NOT!!!
