Cafe kale We saw this cafe from the #24 tram and after looking it up on Yelp, is was in our sights for lunch. Very casual and quiet inside. Dutch restaurant custom us to walk in the door and take any available table. American custom is to wait to be greeted and seated. Boy did we look dumb but quickly caught on. We were handed menus and ordered some drinks. Nice beer selection and even better food selection. We started with an apperizer of toasted potalike bread and a few tapanades. It was delicious. That set the bar high for our lunch entrees. It was quiet at lunch which gave us the opportunity to chat with our server. She was wonderful as was all of the staff who we talked to includong the bartender. Everyone helps each other out to make the meal most enjoyable. They had a nice variety of meat and vegan plates. It seemed like we were on a quest to eat as much smoked salmon as possible. Actually, my daughter just prefers smoked salmon and avocado to any other food item. I prefer to try local foods that I cannot get in the states. I picked a winner and enjoyed it alot. The spicy chicken sandwich was served openfaced and had pickled veggies piled high on it. I could eat that everyday if it was a choice. My husband ordered a daily soup and he said it was great. Filled the need to warm up on a wet cold day with a bowl of lemongrass soup with chicken and a slight coconut curry flavor. We spent much of the afternoon here enjoying the food and ambiance. Very cozy and comfortable even at a table near the bar area.

Great beer, food and service in a great neighborhood. Loved the burrata salad, the "funky veggie" salad and the fish and chips. Chicken club sandwich was really good too. Loved the local beer!

Had my eye on this little traditional street cafe for a couple of years now, always passing it on the tram headed somewhere else. Now that I've paid a proper visit for a light lunch and a local beer on tap, I'm headed back, probably today, to do it up right. It's almost always full, and now I see why. Just move on if you've never read my reviews. I swoon over your garden variety traditional cafe with the small tables and chairs facing the street in front, their postage sized interiors that house mainly a bar. Adorned with flowers outside, a nice awning to protect the sun, an hour or more spent here is pure bliss. That they aren't overlooking a canal is about the only thing I could wish for, but the people watching at this one has few equals. The beer is cold and local, the food is freaking gorgeous and tasty and the service is impeccable. What more could I want? Well, more time here for starters. Believe I'll just have me some of that.

Went to one place when we wanted to try Dutch food and out of luck got a huge line. It was 21:00+ and we wanted cozy warm place (rain outside). Cafe Kale provided what we needed: warm cozy place, nice staff, good beers and Dutch finger food.

I've been here two times, and each time the service was prompt and friendly. The cafe has a super comfortable, casual atmosphere. It's a place where you would want to hang out. There are five beer taps, and four of them are good. They also have a good selection of bottled beers. The chicken salad is good, and I hope you like pistachios because this salad is smothered in them. Today I had a chicken saté plate with fries and a sweet and sour salad that I ordered to share as a lunch. The chicken was tender and moist (probably thigh meat). The side of tangy salad was the perfect counterpoint to the rich peanut sauce. I wouldn't change a thing about this spot. For the sun-lovers, there is great southern exposure and several tables in front.

We came here for lunch in order to get out of the typical rainy days and what a great little find. Our server was so sweet and very attentive. We order the croquette as an appetizer. Our waitress warned us the food was hot but it was Extremely hot! She expected us to wait for this deliciousness? We dug right in!! The Salmon with light and perfect. We had such a great time, that we came back for dinner. There are no dinner menus as everything is written on their daily boards. Great food and very cozy. Will come back again.

I swear Amsterdam has some of the nicest people living/working in this city. Came here for some pub grub on our first night after the Heineken Experience. Totally, hit the spot and soaked up all that beer. Our waiter Dennis was super cool, informative, and even gave us some Dutch phrases to use on our stay. This is the kinda watering hole you have back home and they treat you like you've been coming there forever. Food was stoopid fresh as well!

Great location, great atmosphere, great food, great music, great beer. Had the chicken avocado sandwich.... super fresh and satisfying... looking forward to the next time...

There was quite a lot of smokers around, so be prepared for your clothes to smell later. The dutch pea soup I had was somewhat heavy for my liking but it was good. Welcome to Haven Van Texel. Right at the north end of the red light district. A colleague of mine said she goes here for traditional Dutch cuisine, so let's get to the food shall we. Of course we're going to snag an order of the Croquettes. Nice bite size potato mash balls with meat in it. These ones are nice and neat with a perfect delicate crunch. Great balance of potato to meat ratio. 8.2/10 For my main event, the Stamppot. This is a rotating dish that's usually different every time. Whatever protein that's available in the market with seasonal vegetables in the mash. It's like a lovely surprise every time I visit. Today we have pork. Perfectly seasoned, the meat was fall off the bone and the mash was a delightful side. 8.7/10 The place is really nice, the tables outside do go fast during busy hours. The staff was nice enough to let us sit by at the bar so we can enjoy some drinks while we wait. I would definitely smash here again. Ron Gastrobar Downtown was our first real dinner on our recent trip to Amsterdam. My friend is the…read moreone that discovered this restaurant and made the reservations ahead of time, and from the pictures, it looked like a fun place to eat. I was excited. From research, it seems as though Amsterdam is known for having some good Indonesian food, so that was something we made a priority of trying while we were there. Though somewhat pricey, the entertainment, decor, and food here definitely exceeded our expectations. To eat, we had already decided to order the rijsttafel (rice table), which is essentially a variety of small Indonesian dishes. In total, I believe there were about 15 that we were comfortably able to share and enjoy. In addition, we ordered a few street food appetizers, which included the black angus tartare, tacos, and albacore tuna tartare. Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. I particularly enjoyed the street food appetizers, which were presented very uniquely. While I'm glad we tried the rijsttafel for the authentic experience, there were only a few dishes from it that I really enjoyed. Still, I'd recommend ordering it for the experience. It was pretty cool to try so many Indonesian specialties in one meal. If looking for a fun restaurant to dine at in central Amsterdam, Ron Gastrobar is an option you should heavily consider. The ambiance and atmosphere are unrivaled, and you are bound to have a great time. The live performances are very enjoyable. Service was also very accommodating and friendly, and the drinks were superb. Go ahead and check this place out!

We were all waiting for an elevator to the top floor, which was the restaurant. When we got to the top, no one was there but we eventually found someone to show us our table. The sun was a bit bright because it is already summer but it was a beautiful view as it set. We took every recommendation our waiter gave. We started with cocktails from the small menu and tuna tartar and oysters (with apple, green pepper and ginger dressing). I never eat oysters but I loved these. When it was time for the main food, I told our waiter we were interested in the rijstafel. He recommended that we get rijstafel for four and supplement it with the sea bass. Upon further inspection of the menu, we did that, plus the chicken sate, beef sate and wagyu sate. Everything was amazing. There are a couple of entertainment pieces that come with the meal. Mr. Spicy comes around in a red dinner jacket and asks if you want mild, medium or spicy sauce with your meal. We wanted to try one of each. Later on, Mr. Downtown with the cat head came by for a photo. He never put down his glass. In all, the meal was delicious and the cocktails were unique. I look forward to the next experience here.
