Good move as they filled up almost immediately after opening. Sat inside at sweet window table with fresh hydrangeas. Choice of 3 entrees today, all served with assortment of tiny vegan salad samples. We had the spring roll (best ever hands down) and the ratatouille pie (also amazing). Service was slow as the French always are, and we were able to relax and not feel rushed despite the demand. Fresh unsweetened hibiscus, ginger and orange juice made upon ordering downstairs...delicious!! Trio du jour for dessert tasted like a gourmet s'more! What can I say but yum! I can't remember exactly what it was that we had but I believe it was lasagna. Wonderful flavors so I wish I had the recipe. The main dish was surrounded by various pickled veggies like beets, cucumbers, carrots, cabbage along with lentils 2 ways, tabbouleh. It was just a feast of different tastes and textures. We dined there our last day in Paris or we would have been back many times to sample their other dishes. Ahhh what a beautiful discovery! Right off Bastille, this little jewel is hidden in one of Paris' endless alleys This small cafe fits around 20-ish people. The kitchen is downstairs, but they do some cooking on the GF, and you can see what they're doing, an open kitchen is always a plus! I ordered the vegetable gratin. Did i mention it's vegan? For 20 Euros, you get your money's worth it. The plate is rich in flavors and ingredient. It's a little salad bar. Around 3 or 4 salads that you can mix and match, so don't worry you won't end up with weird flavors. I also take a dessert to go. If they are serving banana chocolate pie, do take it. Fuck the calorie. It's totally, to-ta-lly, worth it. Did i mention it's vegan? The staff is as nice as it gets, happy little vegans that they are. They are helpful and talkative. My friend and I went to Cafe Ginger for dinner yesterday - being gluten and dairy free I'm always super excited to try new vegan and gluten free places. Sadly I was quite disappointed. The one room restaurant was entirely overcrowded with chairs, tables and people, not really creating the easy going and friendly atmosphere it seems they are striving for. The food really wasn't up to standard either - which I was really quite disappointed about. To start I had a juice (kind of an odd starter if you ask me) and my friend had what we were told was gaspacho... it only just resembled it. As a main we both chose the springrolls (they were the only gluten free option for the main). Whilst the ingredients were evidently fresh - which was what I was craving - it didn't make up for the strange overpowering flavour combinations and the simple lack of imagination. I'm sad to say that I would not reccomend this place to anyone - which is such a pitty as it is one of few vegan places in Paris. read more

The tarts!! I came here just to try the tarts that I kept seeing in pictures and they are as good as they look :D I had a mushroom (marinated to perfection) with mash potatoes one and there was a layer of caramelized onions inside that was FAN-TASTIC. The crust was really good for a gluten free one, but not going to lie that I obviously I prefer a buttery flaky pie crust (who doesn't right?!). It came on a dish with a bunch of different salads and I have to say that none of them were particularly interesting (sol semilla is the BEST in Paris for these vegan assorted plates that are popular now). Cafe Ginger is a bit of a concept of its own. There is a daily menu with limited choice. The food was delicious, varied and healthy. Everything is organic and the vegetable choice seemed seasonal. We got a plate with several small salads and a leek quiche. The staff was friendly but we did have to wait for quite some time to get service and for our food. We were not that happy with the drinks. They only serve two types of wine, which I personally didn't like. The coffee I got afterwards was cold and not up to standards. Apart from the drinks, I did really enjoy the food. We found this restaurant by searching on Yelp for a Gluten Free restaurant near Place de Bastille. We were very lucky that we arrived when we did as we were able to reserve a table for when they opened. If you don't have a reservation you probably won't be able to get a table. However, you will be able to get food to take away. Everything they serve is organic, fresh, and prepared by them. They are quite friendly and very helpful with any questions you might have. This is a Vegan restaurant that happens to have some Gluten Free choices. I happen to have Celiacs and Gastroparesis so although the Gluten Free part was great the fact that most of the food was raw was bad for me. After eating three vegan meals in other highly rated Parisian restaurants, I was beginning to think the locals didn't really appreciate vegan food enough to give an intelligent opinion. Until I came here. Totally outstanding! The English owner informed me that the place was totally vegan, spent a bit of time explaining the main dishes to me, and I ordered. What a pleasant contrast from my experiences elsewhere! I had the asparagus and leek tart, with a whole bunch of tasty sides. Usually I am not a dessert eater, but since the rest of the meal was so splendid, I figured why not--and the vegan chocolate peppermint cheesecake with coconut in the crust was totally outlandish. Dinner was a fixed menu, which I am never a fan of, rarely needing an appetizer, meal, dessert, and expensive bill. Our pumpkin soups were the highlight, so delicious! My main was decent, a collection of salads and dips. My friend's was too one-noted, a root-veg filled tortilla with a lot of spiced-chocolate dressing. I ate at Cafe Ginger about two years ago and it is still one of the best meals I've ever had. I'm coming back to Paris on May 19, and I can't wait to come back. Eating veggie in France is near impossible, but this place is a sanctuary for vegetarian/vegan eaters. Cute little vegan place just steps from the Bastille Metro station. A kind, French-speaking Englishman - a dead ringer for John Malkovich - runs this café, and as far as I know he does all the cooking himself (though I've read he runs it with his wife, so maybe she was the one doing all the cooking in the back). He had a little assistant, but she was chopping up stuff behind the counter, not taking orders. In other words, this place isn't exactly overstaffed. So don't come here if you're in a rush. Cafe Ginger's menu focuses on one thing: little square-shaped savory vegan pies. My wife ordered the corn pie, with bits of onions and other veggies in it. I ordered the potato pie, which was vaguely like a shepherd's pie. Both were delicious. Each arrived on a plate surrounded with little dollops of side dishes - hummus, sauteed carrots, quinoa, etc. All were quite nice. In short, the food here is very fresh and healthy, made with love. But it's not a place to go if you want to feel stuffed. We were happy with our lunches, but then we walked down the street to get a pain au chocolat from Gentle Gourmet for dessert. Set price for lunch plus a drink (either homemade juice, fancy tea, or an "infusion"): 15 Euros (about $20). Not the cheapest, but fair enough for Paris. And the guy running the place is so nice and works so hard, I think he deserves it. read more

I had a delightful lunch here on this rainy afternoon. It was my first meal in Paris, and after a day of airport food, I was thrilled to have such a lovely, healthy meal. The plat du jour is a selection of several different salads and a choice of a daily special. I had a wonderful aubergine bake to accompany the salads, all of which were delicious. The meal was hearty and filling, but not heavy thanks to a light hand with the oil (much appreciated after having many over-dressed salads). This place offers excellent and wonderful tasting vegan meals. All our meals here have been absolutely incredible. The daily fresh salads that come with a choice of an entree are simply a delight to the palate. The desserts are to die for and the fresh juices are quite refreshing as well as energizing.
