We were looking for vegetarian food in Paris and found this place after a trip through St Germain and Luxembourg Gardens. Overall I would say we had mixed opinions on this. My vegetarian had a a sweet potato bake that she thought was decent. My veggie burger was underwhelming- the patty was super thin and lacked a clear flavor or texture. The egg on top was perfectly cooked, however. Service was normal for Paris, quiet place. Very good service amazing food with one exception. This was my first restaurant in Paris on my first visit and was very excited, didn't think I would return a dish on the first restaurant in Paris. I ordered a dish that was described as "Lentil stake" it was a burger, and the lentil patty was hard and not eatable. I apologied and still offered to pay for is as I don't know what the custom is. I ordered a different dish and a desert that totally made up for the first dish, amazing food and I personally think they can get rid of that lentil burger because it's absolutely terrible. I dont understand the 3.9 rating. This restaurant had amazing food and service. After a tiring 2nd day, we stopped by here since it was relatively close to our hotel and had veg options. My husband and I ordered their gratin dish and a tofu and seitan platter. The serving size was huge for Paris but we finished it all. Also got some cold crisp beer. Our server was an Imdian lady who was efficient and friendly. Its a small place and tables can get cramped but that just adds to the charm that is Paris. An absolutely outstanding vegetarian restaurant in the Latin Quarter. it is one of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in Paris ... Dating back to the era when people wondered how vegetarians get enough protein. The generation of vegetarian pioneers who founded the place have all grown old and moved on. The new generation of managers are incorporating exciting elements of North African, Sub-Saharan African and Caribbean cooking into the menu - while keeping some of the classic French recipes from Le Grenier's youth. There is nothing but good in any of this. Our table had dishes from many of the generations. A coconut soup was one of the richest and most indulgent bowls of soup I have had in my life. Manioc gave the soup some solid mass - but mostly this was just pure over-the-top coconut milk goodness. An Aveyron salad was an orthodox French salad with a generous mix in of strong very high quality Aveyron blue cheese. Very fresh walnuts were a fine taste contrast. Oh yes - and plenty of healthy greens for the salad. The rest of the table all had Berber plates. They a) Loved them and b) Couldn't finish them. Having so much food you can't finish it is a good thing in a vegetarian restaurant. All of us having had a super rich coconut soup first may have had something to do with this. * * * Overall, a first rate vegetarian restaurant. I came here with a friend on a cloudy Sunday afternoon around 1 pm in August 2021. The restaurant is located in the Île de la Cité area and was also not a far walk from the Panthéon and the Sorbonne (about 10 min). Although the restaurant was popular enough that people seemed to have made reservations ahead of time, it didn't look too busy when we arrived, possibly because it was an uncharacteristically chilly day for August. My friend and I chose to sit outside on the terrace so we did not get to see much of the inside of the restaurant, but we heard there was a second floor and the part we did see looked nicely decorated. My friend and I each ordered an appetizer, main dish, dessert and coffee. The server, who was very nice and friendly, helpfully explained to us that most of the dishes could be adapted if desired to fit various dietary needs (e.g., excluding bread and/or cheese to make something gluten-free or vegan). My friend got the onion soup as her appetizer, which came with a glass of wine (choice of white or red); I got a dish of cassava & plantains in warm sweet coconut milk. We both really enjoyed our starters: my friend thought the soup was noticeably lighter than a traditional French onion but still very tasty, while I found my starter to be comforting and filling and well suited for a chilly day. Both of us got the vegetarian couscous as the main course. The couscous was very hearty and savory, with a nice layer of tomato sauce over the grains and a generous amount of vegetables including zucchini and squash. The couscous was served with a fried seitan kebab meant to replace the usual " meat " part of the couscous; this was also really delicious, crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. The dessert menu looked great, with fruit tarts and chocolate cake, but we were too stuffed to get more than a scoop of sorbet each. My friend got the mango sorbet which she really liked, while I got the chestnut, which was sweet and autumnal and had chunks of chestnut in it. Our total meal wound up being around 68€, which seemed reasonable given the amount of food we got. The service was really friendly and at least one of the servers spoke English fluently. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a tasty, filling vegetarian or vegan meal in Paris. I would love to come back and perhaps make sure to leave enough room for a proper dessert next time. read more

I am a tourist from Pennsylvania. My mom decided to come to this place after a long day of touristing. We visited the Louvre and the Saint Chapelle church. We also visited Shakespeare and Company, before coming to this lovely restaurant. When we arrived I noticed there was limited outside space, but when we went in we were seated upstairs which still had a great view and air flow. The menu is in french with English translations listed on the menu, which was very helpful. I am vegetarian, and I had a variety of options to choose from. I ordered a mango pineapple smoothie and the falafel dish. Both were amazing, though the falafel dish was a bit small it was perfect for what i wanted. For dessert, I got a scoop of mango sorbet, which was amazing, probably the best I've had in Paris. Absolute fire of a meal! I had the vegetarian tofu plate with the galette, seitan, cabbage, rice, ratatouille, and tofu. That's the best seitan I've ever eaten, the texture the taste the after effect ... all of it. The assortment of flavors on the plate was just delectable. Amazing place! Friendliness: We didn't have a reservation but weren't 'eye rolled' like some other reviews suggested. The host /hostess were very friendly, spoke great English and offered to help explain the menu. Food: As someone who doesn't eat four legged animals or seafood I found the food nothing short of breathtaking. The food was organic ( menu claimed 85%), not spicy but very flavorful. We got one formule and one plat, both were great. The plat especially was well worth the price. Every single morsel was delicious on that plate. Most of the stuff was savory but there was a small fruit puree with figs. The desert was pineapple based with edible flowers. Again, not over sweet very balanced and very good. Definitely, one of the best foods I've tasted. Drink: Their wine selection is organic too! We got the 50 cl version and that was plenty for two people. Unlike some places in europe, water was free. The host was very helpful in explaining the different pairings. Not a very large selection but a good choice is white wines with a few rosé. Location : easily walkable, we Uber-ed. Didn't seem like they had parking which is expected in a city like Paris. They had outdoor, indoor and upstair seating. The descriptions sounded lovely, but they have no resemblance to the food. The falafel was an unrecognizable mush in patty form. There was a chickpea "faux gras" with configure oignon that was barely ground chickpeas with a barely caramelized onion goop on top. Finally- there wasn't a gluten free cracker or bread option to go with any of these. I would avoid this restaurant. You will be better off looking for a veggie plate at a regular bistro. read more

Some of the BEST vegetarian food in Paris. Located on the Left Bank on a tiny, quiet street, you can glance to see a view of Notre Dame Cathedral to one side. Lovely atmosphere inside & out. It was so good I ate 4 meals here on my last stay in Paris. Staff is accommodating kind & English speaking. They will adjust dishes to your liking & if you have allergies or food intolerance issues they will prepare too specific needs or give you menu alternatives. Reading Le Grenier de Notre-Dame was one of the original vegetarian restaurants to open in Paris & have been around since something like the 1970s, we made sure to secure reservations for our Paris getaway Offering a large variety of food-genres, we found the quality to be on par with what one would expect to find in such close proximity to a touristy hot spot Shared the Falafels as a starter - these were tasty - soft patties of chickpea fritters I chose the couscous with tofu kebab - I liked the breaded kebab but thought the couscous & veggies were a bit too bland. I was hoping for a strongly-seasoned couscous dish The Mr chose the Cheesy Polenta in Tomato Sauce - I did not care for the tart cheese they used & thought the tomato sauce was bland but the Mr said he liked the dish just fine & actually preferred it to my dish Too full for dessert & not very tempted by their selection we elected to pass Overall, we liked the atmosphere but were not wowed - while we did not hate it, would probably select a different restaurant in the future read more

Fantastic vegetarian fare. We have visited twice in past month, and each time were met with friendly staff and excellent food. This time we had the menu du jour and were met with tasty gazpacho and a kurdish dish that was almost beyond description. It was served in two bowls. In the main bowl was rice with some steamed veggies on top. Then you got a bowl filled with sauce, seitan, and spices. OH MY! This sauce was fantastic. You spooned the sauce over the rice and vegetables as you eat, with the bowl keeping the unapplied sauce warm. Loved it. It was just so delicious. read more

Getting my fill of duck and beef this week, we had a craving for a vegetarian meal and came across this little gem which just happens to be one block away from the rental place we were staying in. The restaurant is cozy, and the wait staff makes sure you are well taken care of. My husband had the L'ASSIETTE ROYALE and I had the L'ASSIETTE BETTERE. The best vegetarian restaurant I have ever been to! And even that statement doesn't seem to give it enough credit. The French are well known for their passion and attention to detail to food that is always fresh and well presented, well this restaurant is the best example of this love for food. The menu is riddled with so many delightful dishes and pictures to make your mouth water. The food is so delicious you want to eat more despite already being full to the brim. I am actually a meat-eater such that without meat in a meal I can feel rather unsatisfied but before my visit to Le Grenier de Notre-Dame I never knew that food even without the meat element could be so varied in ingredients, in flavours and in recipes. It was delicious. The atmosphere at this restaurant is also fabulous and distinctly French. Although the restaurant is actually quite petite, the tables and chairs and decorations (including live plants) are arranged such that it feels private and not cramped. You get the service you require without feeling watched and the attention to detail is apparent right down to the decorated plates and cutlery.   I have been lucky enough to eat at this restaurant twice but equally twice at other times I have tried to go they have been fully booked so if you can make a reservation ensure you do! I am not a vegetarian...but my daughter is...so we decided to go here for dinner with two of her friends. I was very impressed with the food. It is ALL vegetarian, even the soda is some kind of natural vega-soda that taste slightly like cream soda in the states. I ordered the vege- spaghetti with home made red sauce. Le Grenier is a smallish restaurant tucked away on a side street near Notre Dame. We arrived for a late lunch ~14:00 and were seated immediately. The menu is very diverse, and while main courses are on the pricier side given the ingredients, they offer tremendous amounts of food. I had the avocado and mango tartare and miso soup, both were spectacular. Would recommend the tartare to anyone considering a visit. Fiancée had the "protein special" which was enormous and delicious as well! Service was slow toward the end but staff was kind and spoke English well enough. We had a very poor experience here largely due to very bad food. Almost every item we ordered was not just not good, but bad. This was very disappointing as we were very excited to have a vegetarian restaurant in Paris. The pan fried falafel was so salty I almost sent it back. The vegetable lasagna had so little salt it was nearly flavorless as there was nothing else to add flavor except some zucchini. The tofu was nearly raw, the mixed vegetables cooked to within a few second from pure mush, the lentils also basically unsalted and mealy. The quiche was good, as was the seitan and the tahini dressing on the green salads (and the salads themselves) were excellent. I give this two stars instead of one because the service was attentive and a few of the bites were very good. But overall, I would stay away. read more

I probably should give this place 5 stars based on the fact that it was the only non-Asian vegan friendly restaurant that I was able to find the last few days. I give it 4 stars, because I didn't get to try more than two things on the menu and thus cannot evaluate it fully. The menu is built on some very basic plates and dishes. If you are from LA, think Real Food Daily's meals where they provide several types of vegan staples on one plate. Their appetizers looked great, I wish I had actually been hungry enough to eat a 3 course meal so that I could try them. Unfortunately, I wasn't and I really hate wasting food. I chose one of the plates for my entree. It included brown rice, fried tofu, seitan, a cabbage salad, steamed veggies and a veggie burger patty. Everything was cooked very well, and though I am not normally a fan of plainly cooked tofu, the way they cooked it made it have a great deal of flavor, it even tasted a little like sausage. I finished off my meal with a piece of apple pie, which was a good balance of tart and sweet. The location is a little hard to find, but the outside is adorable, very quaint and covered in vines. Once you walk in, the restaurant is small, and has two levels attached by a VERY small spiral staircase. AVOID HIGH HEELS if you come here, had I worn mine, I might have broken my neck. I think the best asset of this restaurant was the staff. It was by far the best service that I received during my stay in Paris. They were very attentive and very kind. The pricing was not too bad, especially compared to other places in the area. Overall, I had a great experience at Le Grenier de Notre-Dame and will be back on my next trip over! read more
