Yum! I've never had cacio e pepe before, but apparently it's a thing in Rome! So, I came here to try it, and what better place to try cacio e pepe than a restaurant named Cacio e Pepe?! The noodles are extremely chewy and delicious, and the pasta is dry without sauce. There's olive oil I think, and it's the most simple pasta I've had. Cheese and pepper on top of amazingly chewy noodles, what could be better? It's a bit salty from the cheese, but it's delicious. At €8, they give you an extremely big plate of noodles, so filling. It's great! I think maybe personally I don't like cacio e pepe as a past too much because there's no sauce and it's dry, but objectively judging the cacio e pepe here, I can't imagine this dish to be any better! read more

We heard about on an Anthony Bourdain (whom we watch religiously back in the States) special we caught on our flight over - perfect! "Is he talking to us??" This is place surpassed the hype. All I had was the signature dish (cacio e pepe) and a jug of wine, and it was ridiculously good enough, with obvious risk of recency bias, to have secured a spot in one of the top 5 meals I've ever eaten in my life. The hand made pasta is prepared in such a way that the textures you taste are unlike any other pasta you've ever had -- Not too firm, not too mushy. Spot on. Simple dishes are the best kind in Italian food, I've noticed. When you start to get too complicated, you lose some of the importance in the base of the dish -- Which in this case, is the pasta. The ambiance was extremely local, but they were more than welcome to people who were mediocre at Italian (myself) and people who didn't speak any at all (my family). Hubby and I were on a mission during our honeymoon - to get lost in each of the cities we visited and find a hole-in-the-wall place that the locals recommend. Well, in Rome, we were traversing through the streets and ended up in Piazza Trilussa. We saw the tray of fresh pasta displayed at the doorstep and decided to give this place the try. They don't offer table service, so you just walk in, order your food, and find yourself a table. What's great is that you can choose the type of pasta and sauce you want to create your own pasta dish. I found the pasta to be too doughy - not al dente. Doughy. I was especially disappointed with the gnocchi. I've tried plenty of gnocchi in LA that were beautifully fluffy and melted in your mouth. This was NOT that kind of gnocchi. The hubby didn't know better so he just commented that his pasta was "different". Hubby: Hmmm, this pasta different. Me: How??? Hubby: I don't know... I think it's because I chose the gnocchi. The best place I had dinner my whole stay in Italy! This place is tucked away from the tourist areas so you're getting and authentic experience--this includes very little English spoken by the staff. I read previous comments about the staff being rude and this was not at all what I had encountered. The staff did their best to communicate with me and my husband with the English that they knew. Also, food did came out a little slow but that's just an overall Italian dining experience--from what I understand, they like to take their time eating. What a great little place in Rome! Even without a reservation (which it definitely seems like they accept, contrary to what the Yelp page says) we were seated immediately (although we did arrive right at opening time). Our waitress was great, helped us out as non Italian speakers to understand what we could order; like others have mentioned, the menu is only on a whiteboard and only in Italian. It seems we got lucky however - another couple behind us seemed to be having a harder time trying to get their order through in English, so I'd recommend doing some Italian practice beforehand so you're able to order well. We both ordered the Cacio e Pepe and it was fantastic! The noodles really made the dish great, very fresh and absolutely delicious. What a fun find in our hotel neighborhood! The hubs and I were looking for dinner and this locale popped up with overall great reviews so we headed off to check it out. I speak VERY minimal Italian but can get by in situations like restaurants, which is good because none of the staff spoke English. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us immediately (Thursday @8pm). The waiter (cameriere) started rattling off options in Italian and again I politely communicated we didn't speak Italian (non parlo Italiano) he asked which language we speak, I told him (Io parlo englese), he looked a little disappointed but we powered through! Thankfully the menu is extremely short and written on a chalkboard on the wall...we ordered the carbonara (spaghetti dish pronounced as is), waters (acqua) and a carafe of red wine (vino rosso, in liter). They also brought out bread and had dessert options but we didn't end up trying. It was delicious and a perfect Italian experience (delizioso e perfecto!). I would highly recommend if you are in the area and would like a more traditional experience. read more

We had the most amazing meal where while on our honeymoon in Amalfi. The staff was the most friendliest we have ever had and they went out of their way to take special care of us. They picked us up from our hotel, and later dropped us off. They explained all the dishes in detail, and with a sort of charm that we have yet to see. The ambiance was great, the servers and waiters, super friendly and personable, we couldn't get enough. We had the spaghetti in a paper bag, and a fresh fish of the day, both superb. Omg best gnocchi in a long time. Just to give context we have had great and bad meals in capri, Amalfi coast, Rome and Naples. This was a great one. On top of the good food, the staff was amazing.
