Solid Cuban place in Normandy. Croquetas, Cuban coffee is all good. The empanadas as a must try and so is the homemade spicy sauce.

We were looking for an affordable Cuban meal and decided to give this place a shot based on good Yelp reviews. They did not disappoint! The place is fairly small and has a diner sort of vibe to it. Service was fantastic. Food was amazing and plentiful. They have daily specials too. I had the shrimp creole which came with rice, beans, and sweet plantains ($10). It is not a traditional creole, it included shrimp, red sauce, onions and peppers. So good! We also tried the smoked pork chop with the same sides ($7.50). Also delightful! I have been eating breakfast there for about 10 years. Always delicious and cooked to order. Went by there at lunch time the other day, and said let me eat lunch at Cachita's. Well I was in for a great surprise. What I found was a new owner, Colombian, and new type of menu. I had a large serving of fish,, almost fell off the plate. It was broiled not fried. First thing first....the customer service was nice. They were warming. I originally wanted to give 3stars at least but after walking out...I'm giving one star. I'm a pastry chef and I know the food industry pretty well. I ordered the steak sandwich and my husband ordered a Cuban sandwich. The bread was completely dry. My sandwich was filled with fat cut slices tomatoes and filled with a lot of fried chips with a thin layer of steak. The steak was okay but a little on the salty side. My husbands Cuban sandwich tasted like old meat. The cafe con leche was good. My real reason for giving one star is because the lady had blue gloves on cutting bread and then at the end saw her ringing us out with the gloves on and cleaning the Counter with the same gloves. That's a huge no! That is food contamination. This isn't a spot for me to visit again. Locals may enjoy it but not a good spot. read more

For over a year my office was off the back alley entrance to Cachita restaurant. I ate there at least 3 days of the week for most of that year. Its truly where I learned my restaurant spanish and developed a true love for Cuban food. A little whole in the wall Cuban place on Miami Beach, it's exactly what you want. Bistec de Pollo smothered in carmelized onions, with arroz y frijoles negroes, mix it up with some maduros or some tostones, squirt some lime on it.. start it all off with a sopa de pollo, of course with lime in it. Bistec de palomilla with more smothered onions and lime...cafe con leches, cortaditos, coladas, cafecitos... the best in what Cuban coffee should be.. pastelitos, croquettas. Bistec de pollo milanesa, Bistec Empanizado, it was all so good. Old cuban men playing the illegal gambling machine in the back of the restaurant and waitresses who would yell my name out when I entered and whom I gave Christmas gifts too. It's been a long time since I have been there and I know that Lourdes is no longer the owner, but I can only imagine that the food is as good and consistent as it always was, the coffee is thicker and better, and old cuban men are still hanging out and looking sketchy at the counter. read more

Because it's a neighborhood hole in the wall and I'll be back and all in all the help are really genuinely nice people; like me they were just tired on a too hot day where the dripping air conditioner and one ailing ceiling fan just can't keep out the oppressive heat and humidity. My bf's Cuban Realtor introduced him to this place and he, in turn, introduced me to this place. Resembles a small casual diner. Serves a lot of Cuban pastries and dishes. A lot of locals dine here and some of the waitress do not speak English. I love their papa rellenos with their home made salsa (pickled jalapeno, onion, tomatoes, etc.). They offer a great variety of specials daily. Worth mentioning is the Rabo Encendido or Ox Tail on Fridays. Another winner is the Pan con Bistec or Steak Sandwich; try it. This place is delicious only because they have a roach infestation. Let's face it roaches make everything taste better. Tuna sandwich is the bomb and they even make strawberry juice with strawberries that they hand pick from preseidente supermarket across the street. I love the convenience factor but sometimes service can be a little slow if you're a gringo. They have coco frío on tap which just melts all your stress away. I found Cachita's by a referral from a local auto insurance provider. I normally go off the beach for good, home-cooked food. I won't anymore. The food was DEEELICIOUS! The place was clean, small and cozy. They also had really good salsa music playing to add to the ambiance. No one spoke any English, so brush up on your Spanish before you go.
