The guy working at Stadium Hardware recommended this place, and thank goodness for that! I walked in, the lady knew exactly what piece I needed, got it, installed it in the one window I brought with me, and showed me how to install it so I could do the other window myself when I got home. I was in and out in five minutes, and it only cost me $1.50! Next time I need anything for a window or door, now I know not to waste my time with a hardware store and come straight to the experts!

Prices were on par with Home Depot or Lowe's, but the flexibility, responsiveness, and overall experience were a world better. The windows themselves are nicely made --- I wouldn't go as far as "works of art" as they're fairly low-tech (strips of gasket, mitre-cut aluminum), but reasonable materials and solid workmanship. Definitely my go-to for screens & windows, either normal-ish or very custom.

I've had less than acceptable experiences working with various contractors and I wanted to work with someone who was timely, cost effective, great customer service and good quality. I expressed that to Justin and he was so understanding and assured me they are all those things. He was right! The next day Jorge came to my house to take measurements. He was very polite and knowledgeable about granite and overall experience. They say it takes two weeks from the date they receive the slab order you pick out. That is indeed true. I had a very specific granite vision of what I wanted. I went to a few suppliers and found the one I wanted. However, when it came in, the slab was cracked and MGE did not want me to be disappointed as they genuinely cared about the finished product and quality. We sent it back. Then, Kleopatra called me and offered to come with me to the suppliers to help me look at the granite and inspect it herself. I was so relieved and was blown away with how she went above and beyond to keep me informed of everything and to ensure I chose the granite we would be satisfied with long term. We ended up picking Avalon White from MSI. She inspected it and showed me which part of the slab they would use. I was reassured and so excited! Their prices are competitive and cost effective for their customers. The install team was outstanding. Our home is a historical home built in 1884, so the ground isn't as leveled. They stayed for 6 hours reconfiguring until it was perfect. They wanted to ensure it looked pristine and they do!! We love them and would highly recommend MGE to anyone. Del was the only one there and helped answer a few questions for us, informing us that he was the "counter guy" and that Tim was not in that day to do our cabinet estimate. That was fine, Del took our information and kitchen details to leave for Tim to contact us with a cabinet estimate. Del seemed knowledgeable about counters and that he'd do a good job with our counter estimate once Tim could get our cabinets done. 5 days later after calling once and emailing Tim, we hadn't heard anything back. We just bought the house and the 3-4 week lead time for ordering cabinets is part of the critical path of our remodel. It has been over 2 weeks now and we haven't been contacted once. We clearly were either not a priority for them or they lost/ignored our request for an estimate. They get two stars because they seem like their product is good and other reviewers have claimed that they do good work. We wouldn't know since they wouldn't even get to the point of giving us an estimate for our business. Make sure to call ahead to ensure that Tim or Del is in before driving over there, don't rely on them to contact you.

The price seemed to not be out of line with the big box stores but the process at those stores was pretty convoluted while Dexter Cabinet put it into one nice package (although we decided to purchase a different faucet than the several good ones they offered in their package). After a couple go-rounds at Lowe's, we threw up our hands and went with the more "comfortable" (and LOCAL) Dexter Cabinet option. Glad we did. I would however recommend that potential customers take some responsibility for keeping the communication going. Contact them if you don't hear back when you expect to. That worked really well for us. This seems to be the way to work with most contractors, we've found.

First, Megan's assumption that Chelsea Plank was not contacted by the retailer is erroneous, the retailer did reach out to them and their Sales Manager did respond to the retailer, I saved the original email exchanges with our retailer who mentions the Sales Manager by name. At the time the retailer replied "he (the Chelsea Plank sales manager) stated that the knots in the flooring are standard due to it being a character floor. And he does not supply or have recommendations on an epoxy to fill." I replied through their website yesterday as Megan instructed and was contacted by the same Sales Manager that responded to our retailer. He, like Megan, blamed the retailer, saying it failed to adequately describe to us the characteristics of the flooring we ordered. He completely ignored our complaint regarding the fully open holes in flooring, going so far as to say; "From the pictures, it looks that they are partially open (not all the way through)" despite my photo showing the pencils through the flooring(!), and my description of the problem in item 2 of my review below, quote "we found about half a dozen fully open knots that the installer overlooked" and also completely ignoring item 3 of my review, quote "It's been 4 months since installation, the 'partially open knots' continue to crack and become fully open knots!" I asked the Sales Manager to carefully re-read my concerns so he understands the issues before replying again, it's been 24 hours and no reply has been received. I stand behind my original comments regarding the poor quality of the Character Grade flooring and of their customer service. --------------Original review begins below---------------- We purchased the Craftsman Series, Heirloom Red Oak flooring from Chelsea Plank because we wanted hardwood flooring with a lot of character. 1. When the flooring was delivered I noticed a damaged box with wood splinters protruding. I told the delivery person I wanted to open and inspect the box before accepting it. I was told, "Sir, if you open the box I can't take it back." So I replied, "Then take it back and bring me another one." He replied, "If I take it back I can't guarantee the replacement will be of the same lot number, and so it might not match the others." So either accept the box and hope for the best, or reject it and hope for the best. I accepted the box but set it aside to be opened last if necessary. We had sufficient flooring to complete the job and that box was returned for a refund (we were charged a restocking fee, I thought this was inappropriate given the box was delivered damaged). 2. The Craftsman Series is a 'Character grade' hardwood. Chelsea Plank says that this flooring is "character grade lumber that includes partially open knots, bird peck, worm holes and mineral streaks". That's fine, we like wood with character and it's why we chose it, however after installation we found about half a dozen fully open knots that the installer overlooked, their warranty claims "each box may contain a small percentage of defects (normally less than 1%)" but our experience says 5% will be defective if a fully open knot is considered a defect. To the installer's credit he returned and filled each with a special blend of epoxy wood filler at his own effort and expense (when we asked Chelsea Plank for advice about filling the knots they said they didn't recommend it, but didn't offer an alternative), the only other option would have been to pull up the defective planks and ask for replacements. 3. It's been 4 months since installation, the "partially open knots" continue to crack and become fully open knots! My wife had been using a vacuum with a hard floor attachment and we discovered it has been sucking up the loose wood from the cracking knots. So now I'm keeping an eye on the floor and as I observe knots cracking I apply wood epoxy to secure them in place. 4. We reached out the Chelsea Plank through the retailer who we bought the flooring from, through their contact page on their website, and even to them through linkedin but basically we've been ignored. The Craftsman series is their highest grade of the 'Character grade' flooring, if that's true then God help you if you purchase the Cottage or Lodge series. I assume our experience with their customer service after the purchase, i.e., non-existent, will be true for others regardless of the grade of flooring you chose. These are the reasons I can't recommend Chelsea Plank Flooring.

They kept us in the loop, cleaned up at the end of the day, and always demonstrated a high level of professionalism (i.e., early/on time, respectful, reliable, etc.), which made them stand out compared to all the other contractors we contacted. The only downside was the cost relative to other contractors. However, as newbie homeowners we've learned that the contractor fees tend to be higher in Ann Arbor. Although, we feel that the fee was well worth it in the end because of their stellar work. The bathroom previously was a room to avoid, and a space that we didn't use. A company that has an actual listed local physical location. 3. A company that is listed as an authorized installer by the manufacturer. 4. Very good customer reviews. 5. A detailed quote that enumerated the cost of each part should it have to be replaced. 6. I was texted the ETA of the repair person along with his photo. 7. ETA and cost was as quoted. 8. The repair person did not try to upsale me more than what was need to do the repair. I was so satisfied I asked them to also replace the torsion spring of my other garage door as preventive maintenance since both doors probably had been installed at the same time.
