I originally came in looking for a Stanley cup, but they carried YETI and their own brand instead. Even though they didn't have what I was initially looking for, the staff were so incredibly nice and went above and beyond to help me out. They even offered to check online for availability at other stores and suggested a 20% off discount on what they had in stock. I felt truly special, though I ultimately declined. The store itself is massive and very well-organized, with something for everyone--whether you're into camping, fishing, hunting, or just love the outdoors. My husband and I went to Bass Pro Shops with the plan of buying two guns--one for him and one for me. Pretty simple, right? We wanted to put one in his name and one in mine but pay for both on his card. To our surprise, they said no and told us the only way to make it work would be for him to buy me a gift card, then for me to use that gift card to purchase my gun. That made no sense at all, and it honestly felt like way too much hassle for something that should have been straightforward. So, we left and went to a local gun store called Nicholes. The experience there was the complete opposite. They had no problem with us buying our guns the way we wanted, and on top of that, they gave us $30 off each firearm. The staff was friendly, helpful, and actually seemed to appreciate our business instead of making things harder than they needed to be. I can honestly say I won't be going back to Bass Pro Shops for firearms. If you're looking for a place that respects its customers and makes the process easy, I'd recommend skipping Bass Pro and going to Nicholes instead. Now Bass Pro not Cabelas near Carowinds. Tried to return an unopened trolling motor I got as a gift. Was offered a store credit that I was happy to accept. Then a female manager got involved and told me they couldn't process the refund. They have a 60 day return policy. Its been 6 months since I got the gift. I had no way of knowing of this policy. When did it become a bad thing to take a return and have that money spent back in your same store? They have lost a customer for sure. read more

Awful place, today takes the cake. Went to buy either an S&W 642 or Glock 43 for pocket carry and also a 12 ga shotgun. These employees don't want to sell anything. I waited and waited at the gun counter, nobody else being waited on and 4 idiots behind the counter talking like they were on lunch break. Elderly fellow finally helped a little but couldn't show me the two side by side. He said he could only get one out at a time. I guess i understand but what he could have done was carried one pistol and held it under the counter beside the other so i could at least visually see the comparison. I made my mind up on the 642. Elderly salesman wouldn't help me find a holster, just sent me in the direction of where yall keep those. When I asked the employee manning the ammo he was vague and just said he didnt think they had a holster for that gun. HOW ABOUT LOOK AT YOUR INVENTORY ONLINE AND SEE WHAT YOU HAVE IN STOCK THERE AT THE STORE YOUR WASTING AIR WORKING IN! Finally I decided to forget a holster for now and just purchase the 642 and leave. GUESS WHAT, I WENT BACK TO THE COUNTER AND THE LUNCH GANG WOULDNT BREAK UP THEIR CONVERSATION TO CHECK ME OUT! I would call this a "baby" Cabela's as it is much smaller than the ones we have visited in other locations. Still, it has lots of sporting good items for any fishing, and camping activities. The 3 stars is for the lack of ammo product available for hunting. Of course, with the times as they are, it seems to be the norm at most gun and sporting good stores. Still, it was impossible to find even 22 rifle shells. Sales associate suggested ordering online, but when hubs tried, he was told everything was on back order. So I guess one can buy a new gun but no ammunition available to purchase. Go figure. read more

We've been a couple times and each time we've had great people work with us in choosing firearms providing great feedback and suggestions for each my husband and myself. The store is large and has everything from sleeping bags to safes to clothing and more. The store is set up in way that it's easy to navigate through. Our son enjoys the live fish in the ponds and tanks. It's pretty interactive and there is always someone at those post to assist the Little's with fishing . We attended an event where they had a tank (pool) out front allowing the children to fish and throw the fish back in. We are excited about our new purchases and look forward to adding to our collection . read more

We had a great experience at Santaland within Cabela's with our son. They offer kids crafts, photo with Santa and an option for kids to write a letter to Santa. While our son cried the whole time taking a photo with Santa, this year's santa was a great sport and was patient enough to really tried to get him to smile. Thanks for the experience, Cabela's! The Fort Mill location offers a wide variety of merchandise for hunting, finishing, camping and they have a firearms section. They sell Yeti items!! They also have a hot food section where you can purchase sandwiches and snacks and drinks if you get there hungry or play for a while. There is a dedicated power sports section. They have a decent sized fish tank with quite a few different big fish including catfish, pike, etc. and while the location isn't as big or doesn't have as much animal decor to look at as the locati n in Pennsylvania that I've been to, it still a large facility and offers you a chance to shop, relax by the fireplace and play checkers, take a break at the cafe for a quick bite to eat and an annual santalnad event. I like outdoors shops. Not because I would ever do the outdoorsy thing. I don't camp. I don't hunt. I don't fish. But I find the stuff endlessly appealing and so I usually take the opportunity to look through shops like this. I spent most of my time in the firearms area, where I could plainly see that they have a shedload of ammunition. Not just shotguns and rifle ammo, but also smaller handgun calibers. My own 9mm and .380 was in stock and the prices were especially good for quality brands. Then a peek at the handguns and shotguns for sale. Prices were reasonable. Not too bad, really. Better than what you'll see on the Internet when you add shipping and FFL fees. Pleasant shopping, even if the spaces are a bit crowded. Big parking lot. Be aware of the Carowinds traffic. read more

We play a game "when" we go, which is usually a last resort. We count how many employees we pass that neither greet or ask if we need help.

We bought a gun from here a while ago. My husband likes to constantly upgrade. And this place came recommended to us. We got lucky and found something he liked. We were trading in his previous gun for this new one. That process wasn't bad. What was bad and a major waste of time was when we went to purchase it. There was no one there who seemed capable of working the registering process. I have never seen it taking 5 guys to be able to sell a gun. We were there for about an hour while they tried to figure it out. They had to make about 3 calls to someone who attempted to walk them through the process. This older gentleman who had been helping us out the whole time, didn't know what the issue was and he was trying to figure it out. The 3 younger men, I'm assuming they were "managers" based on there nonchalant attitudes and lack of wanting to help "fix the issue", were helping for a second and then waking into the back room. Which I'm sure is where they went to just sit down and laugh about the situation. During this whole time, the guy checking us out was getting frustrated and I couldn't blame him. He had to kept asking them for help and the "managers" couldn't even do it. I was not impressed with those 3. I have their names written down, and when I see my husband, I'll edit this review. After spending 1 hour with this issue, another guy from another department came over. Instead of telling the older gentleman what he "thinks" he should do, this guy takes over. He showed him what was going on and actually helped him. That's how you do it! I couldn't believe it. After all that time, we were finally able to leave. You guys need to train your staff better. Especially the managers, or the team leaders. Super disappointing. I'll be editing this review later today with the names of the employees. Such a massive waste of time. After all of that, one of the guys who kept going back into the back room came to us and gave us a gift card. He apologized for the trouble. It was $15. Which was nice and unexpected. We don't plan on coming back. So I just found a teen and gave it to him. He was super thankful. It was a nice gesture though. Didn't expect to be given a gift card. read more

I went in looking for led battery operated lights for my canopy to use for camping trips. Unfortunately this was a new product and the store didn't have them in stock. I was assisted by a gentleman named Manning who took his time to answer all of my questions, order the canopy with me online and he even ensured me they'd get to me before I left for my trip, while being able to discount the shipping price for me since the store didn't carry the product I was looking for! Happy to say that not only was I met at the door with great customer service, it continued through my whole experience and was even able to talk and connect to a few staff members about camping trips and puppers!! All in all a 10 out of 10 experience and those canopy lights arrived just as expected and work great! read more

We went here to check it out... We have been to Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain and Dick's Sporting Goods over the past 2 days. This store outshined the others by far. We went in just to explore and ended up buying new fishing rods and reels. The staff at the store are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. They ask if you need help, but do not pester or pressure. Alec Yang was exceptional. He knew exactly how to help and went above and beyond even showing us the ways to bait the hooks depending on where we were going to fish. He explained without making us feel dumb. He also acknowledged other customers, but kept his focus on us throughout the entire time. Highly recommend the store and if you have questions about fishing...ask Alec! I wanted to add an update. Alec was so right on so many levels. I went fishing with the bait he advised me on, and techniques... I caught 2 large mouth bass within 2 hours. read more

My hubby is a hunter & loves to fish, so this is one of his favorite stores. He decided to buy a crossbow and Fleming (I think that was his name) in that department was so helpful and gave a lot of great information. We also spent some time looking at rifles and the guy in that department (I can't remember his name) was super helpful as well and really knew his stuff. Today in the age of Internet shopping, it really is important to have excellent customer service and having employees that know all about the stuff they are selling sets this place apart. This was my first time in a Cabela's. It is indeed a hunting and camping outdoors wonderland. My first impression was that of the bathroom, which was fairly gross. Many times this is the fault of the customers who pee all over the seats, but also the employees who should be checking and cleaning them frequently. Really liked the seating area out front with the big fireplace. Cabela's has stuffed animals everywhere- not the cute fluffy kind but taxidermy. There's even a really cool display with a large fish tank; the water was super clean and clear. The best part is the boating section. Who doesn't love to climb on a brand new pimped out pontoon boat and dream of buzzing around Lake Norman with a cold one in your other hand. Now if I can only scrape together $39,000. I did find their prices rather high, almost stratospherically high. The exact water bazooka for a pool that was $3 at Aldi's was $15 here. Yikes!! So, I'm not really the Cabela's type, although it is a fun place to browse. The next time my kids bug me for a goldfish, I'll just bring them here. At least they can't kill these ones. read more

They are so friendly and you are greeted at the door. I found what I was looking for and as always ended up walking around the stood browsing so many things for the outdoor enthusiast. A smaller Cabela's compared to others, but still a lot of stuff in the store. Having been to a bunch of other Cabela's across the USA, I was excited to have one open up near Charlotte. The store is scaled down version of there other mega stores, (no upper floor, no real furniture section, and Trophy Rooms, but it does have pretty much everything else packed in. I won't call this a destination store for Cabela's, but more of good outdoor post to pick up some needed items. Like the other reviews, its middle level. Bass Pro being bigger, and Gander Mtn being smaller. All that being said, go check it out, they have a nice selection of Arms, and clothing. I really love this store!!! They have practically everything someone could want to enjoy the outdoors. I recently came in for boots and found some awesome Keens. I actually found two pairs and one was their brand. It was so nice, they even loaned me some tall socks to try in which boots felt best. Everyone was so helpful. Get ready for some lines though. I brought my son to Cabela's for their Santa's workshop activities. We arrived right around 2pm and were able to walk right up to see Santa. The Santa and everyone working with him we're all extremely nice, and Santa even has a real beard! Cabela's gives you one 4x6" picture free and then gives you the option to purchase additional copies. The Santa's workshop area was very cute, with an area for writing letters to Santa, a table with play dirt (think kinetic sand), a table with Lincoln logs for building, a duck hunt game (which had the arrows but was missing the bows)and a video game area (which wasn't working when we went). My 4 year old still had a great time..... I think the play dirt was his favorite. Cabela's has pretty much anything you could need for the outdoors.....fishing and hunting gear, clothing, camping gear and boating gear. Started this adventure on the phone, trying to find a particular. This place definitely gets an A for Customer Service. The gentleman on the phone was very helpful, taking the time to not only look up my item in the computer, but send someone to the department to make sure it really was there (it was the last one in the store!). I wish I had gotten his name, but he was an older gentleman (And was on break when I arrived). I am usually annoyed at the early arrival of Christmas in stores, but today they just happened to be having the Arrival of Santa. Gotta admit, it was pretty cool. Had a machine in front of the store making snow, a small caroling group in Victorian dress practicing in front, and lots of neat Christmas decorations & stuff around. In my family, you go to an outdoors store on a Saturday and wander until you find things you remember you needed. This was my first time at this particular Cabela's. The parking lot is huge so you won't have trouble finding parking, but the traffic could be a little crazy since Carowinds is so close. This store was great overall - organized, clean, friendly. It's definitely smaller than the other Cabelas I've been in before. We also glanced at the cafe because my dad likes their Bison Burgers. It was disappointing to see this store only had basic burgers and cold sandwiches, as opposed to unique game meat. read more

Very rude and unhelpful staff. From the minute I walked in the door, each employee I encountered put their head down and kept walking or turned and walked away. I grabbed an item to purchase which was on sale. It rang up wrong and when I said something the cashier acted as if I was trying to pull a fast one. I pointed to the bin about 30 feet away but she refused to check. She asked for assistance from 5 other employees standing around chit-chatting but they seemed bothered. One finally walked over and said "just honor it" as if I'm being a problem. She made the comment that she had been working since 10 and it's now 5:30. News flash: most adults generally work 8 hour days and if you're in customer service you have to get over it and actually provide customer service. I'm not one to ever complain but this rubbed me the wrong way and I won't go back. I feel like this is just another big box store that doesn't care about the consumer. I'd recommend going to a local company or even order from another online retailer that's probably cheaper in price anyways. read more
