Couldn't even register to shoot with a US Gov't ID card. Despite my being a 29-year military veteran, they would not take my Retired Army ID card to get on the firing range. This is illogical in many ways and contradictory to their stated values of patriotism and pro-military. I flew to Matthews to visit family and wanted to shoot with them. Just to get through airport security now a driver's license isn't adequate, so I used my military ID, which is considered an Enhanced ID. It has a scan code for a national database and carries a higher reliability for citizens in good standing than does a driver's license, which sadly can even be obtained by illegal aliens and felons. The man at the range counter was sympathetic since he was a Marine, and he asked his manager, but the manager declined to accept the ID. I would like to have talked with the manager but he wouldn't talk to me about it. read more

Asked Edward if they had the latest high velocity bullets that were recently made in the last few months. He gave me two boxes of Hornady and told me that these rounds were the latest. Got home to find out that they were NOT the latest. Point Blank refused to take them back. They told me it was Federal Law that they could not. It is NOT Federal Law that ammunition is NOT returnable. Even though it was their untruth that had me pay for the bullets they would not take them back. I guess the $20 they made on the transaction was more important than honesty and the loss of a customer. I won't be back. read more

I've been to point blank plenty of times and always find the service and selection to be everything I need. I started my search for my first handgun here and the staff was super accommodating. I rented a small arsenal to try out for the day and found the right handgun for me (Sig P320 X-Five Legion). First time visiting Point Blank but also first time using a scope on an AR anywhere. I'm only here to spend time with my kids on a Sunday afternoon, and this is what they like to do. Inbetween attempts at a 75 foot target, my son continued to dial in view finder until he was hitting the bullseye. And with tremendous pride of success we were confronted with a few white marks on trolly pointed out to us by an employee threatening a weekend ruining fine. We all our wind out of our sails we checked out and were told we'd have to come up with $75 per mark. They whacked us with a $575 bill for about an hour of time in the booth. None of us will ever return and it's going to hard to find a more calamitous experience when traveling 2000 miles to visit my son for the weekend. read more

I was introduced to Point Blank Range via my local gun club. We often come here and meet monthly. I came today on my own, seeking one on one personal instruction. I have a Hunt coming up, and was seeking some guidance and hands-on training with a shotgun. If you need any type of help, or safety training, then Ben Newton is your guy. He has a very calm and patient demeanor, And was very thorough but clear in his explanation of the fire arm itself, different types of ammo that could be used, and even accompanied me on the range and spent quality time guiding me in making accurate, precise shots. I definitely plan to come back and rent the Mossberg pump action shotgun they have on hand to get more practice in before moving up to rifle training. Walked in here on Sunday completely terrified and clueless on how to shoot, hold, and aim a gun. Not being a big fan of guns anyway, my heart was racing at the thought of being confined in a room full of loaded guns and people shooting. After signing my first time shooter waiver I headed over to the check in. Joel was extremely excited to help and knowledgeable. I expressed my fear to him before watching the video and he quickly reassured me that first timers are usually the best and there was nothing to be nervous about. After the video he taught me how to hold my gun and we headed into the shooting lane. Joel loaded my gun for me and taught me everything and was behind me the whole time, reassuring me and giving me quick tips throughout the mini lesson. This place gets five stars with no hesitation. After signing the waiver and watching a short safety video, I choose my firearm rental and I put my eye & ear protection on. I followed Ben, the super friendly ranger, to my lane - I believe they have 20 lanes if not more- and my adrenaline started pumping. Ben begun to teach me how to hold the gun, and I instantly felt my anxiety spike. I never had any desire to even hold a gun, now I'm learning how to shoot one?!! Oh my! Man, there's so much to learn!!! It's not just picking a gun, pointing it and shooting at a target. BOOMM BOOMM BOOMM BOOMM BOOMM BOOMM The first bang scared the S@%t out of me, it really did. The second, and the third one even. Soon enough I got used to the sounds without jumping each time I hear them. It's not that I "feared" firearms in any way; I just had no interest in holding a gun, learning how to shoot, or obtaining one of my own. It took me a while to get my posture, grip, and my sight straight before I even got to touch the trigger. I was loading the magazine one bullet at a time, and I'm inpatient person, but eventually I got the hang of it. It's all about repetition and practice, isn't it?! I kept focusing and my confidence continued to grow as I kept my eye on the target. And you know what? I didn't miss the target, not even once. Ben said my shots were "really good" for someone who's never hold a firearm before. After roughly one hour, of learning, loading, firing and unloading a Range Officer 9mm (from Springfield Armory,) I felt a strange sense of stress relief, power and confidence that overcome me as I fired my last bullet. I have set a private one hour lesson with Greg M. Arrived yesterday and need to learn about the safety of handling firearms since my Conceal Firearms class is Saturday. I have compete in numerous paintball games. I have yet to handle a gun.. Maybe once..... I have much respect for this metals. Paintball you shoot, people get back up.. Firearms..??.! Greg is a good instructor and I must say any time I need another lesson. He will be my go to., 30 mins of shooting, loading, positioning and all that safety protocols. I manage to pass my practical exam for my conceal permit. Keep in mind, I maybe handle a gun once and I didn't like it then! This place hosts numerous classes. Especially classes geared toward women. And that why I pick them., many women deals such and women shootout on Thurs. etc. Their customer service is great. And they are patient ! Prices are pretty much the same as other places. PBR may set themselves from other places by saying entry fee would be good for ALLDAY. "You can shoot, go for lunch and come back with Paid Receipt for reentry" Very nice lay out. Nice employees. None seem to be pompous, condescending, good ol boy type. Which can makes the experience very pleasing to a new shooter. The range itself in very hi tech but really, all you need is to put the target on the thingy and make it go back and forth. Do you research on the retail side or you will overpay. I have gone in a few times to buy something and left empty handed each time because it seems like they were intentionally overcharging. The first time I went in to look at a G17 Gen 5 MOS. Super helpful sales guy but they had it priced at MSRP. I went to another shop 15 min away. Bought the same gun for $519. Another example, went in to buy a weapon light. They had it priced at $359. MRSP for this light is actually $269 and the salesman was unable to cogently explain the $90 discrepancy so I fully believe this is their sales tactic. Again, friendly enough people but YOU. WILL. The range is relatively new. Some of the staff was helpful and attentive others not so much. There are no range attendants monitoring range activity. The range rooms were crowded. There were shell cases all over the floor not being cleaned periodically. I rented a gun and the price of bullets was beyond outrageous. $50 for 50 rounds. Proud member of this place, my family and I joined around Christmas 2015 and the staff here are just amazing just as amazing as the facilities themselves. They offer so many classes to learn about weapons, controlling, shooting, laws, etc.. My husband and I started with the First Steps course on SuperBowl Sunday early in the day and part of the class we got to shoot which help us get familiar with the gun and how to load, unload and the name of the different components not to mention we learned a lot about the do's and don'ts of weapons. We also took a couple more recent for conceal and carry and boy is that a LONG COURSE it's 8 hours but extremely informative to say the least. Our teenager is registered for Teens on Target which is a course to help her learn more about weapons and proper handle and usage. She is very uncomfortable with weapons and this course should help her become more comfortable which is our hopes. Greg the instructor we met in First Steps is so personable and extremely friendly. We really enjoyed our course with him and seeing him while at the range. Richard is the first person I met when I first entered this place in early December 2015 looking to get my husband a giftcard. We talked and I ended up with a family membership and the giftcard for my husband for Christmas (good salesman LoL). I am more than Thankful for his help and getting us signed up for everything. The facilities are CLEAN and there are so many nice people on staff who are all very well trained and knowledgeable on all the many weaponage. So I'll start with the three positives I can think of... 1) Range is in good shape, comfortable (cool) and clean. 2) Daniel and Brad behind the counter. Informative, patient and fun to talk guns with each, as each have different points of view and seem honest and genuine. 3) Steve, Krav Maga instructor, great guy, talkative, helpful and enthusiastic about personal self-defense. Now the bad... sadly I'll never go back here. (Just like I can no longer root for the Redskins until Dan Snyder is gone) I cannot support this establishment as long as the current "manager" is running the show. I needed their FFL services as I was selling a pistol to someone in another state, FFL fee $40, fine. Shipping charges brought the total to $94. Yep, $54 to ship a pistol (a derringer at that!) to Indiana. WHAT?!?! Three guys behind the counter told me it has to go FedEx 2-day shipping, by law. Uh, ok, what do I know, I don't ship guns around the country for a living. I should've left right then and there but that's on me. So I pay and leave with my receipt (which I assumed would have the tracking info, wrong.) So I called back to get tracking (20 minute phone call) and find out it was shipped OVERNIGHT. Uh, what? So then I decided to check on the FedEx site what 2-day shipping would cost me. Guess what? $26. Yep, the service 3 reps there told me they used cost twice as much at a place where yet another rep told me FedEx often comes there 2-3/day. So never mind the lies, you know what that tells me? They have a high-volume FedEx business account and are getting discounts with the shipping company, that's how B2B FedEx typically works, but will customers ever see any of those savings? Nope. But whatever, they shipped it overnight and lied to me. (As I've now come to learn, other FFLs in the area have set shipping rates for this very reason, they're already making plenty of money off their customers in other places, no need to gouge them on shipping too.) BUT I thought, I'm a fair and reasonable guy, I'll go back and talk to a level-headed manager who will see the insanity taking place here and make good on it. Right? Wrong. I spoke to a hulking man who seemed put out to even have to talk to someone period. When I explained everything he gave me some BS about it must be out of my book and in the other FFL book in two days. Yup, ok, get that. So then why overnight? No answer. Why so expensive when you clearly do a TON of business with FedEx (as they will not ship with any other carrier)? No answer. You're "team" lied to my face, any thoughts. "I'll mention it to them." The guy couldn't have cared less. I said, well enjoy your extra $26, I was considering joining, becoming a regular shooter here, taking classes, buying weapons, yadda yadda. He walked away. Just walked away up the stairs to, I can only guess, watch the NFL. Sad. Very sad. I feel bad for the employees who have to work for this guy. He clearly doesn't know how to handle customers, nor run a business. Somehow this place doesn't need or want new members judging by his handling of the situation. I mean, when I mention to other FFLs I was charged $94 to ship a derringer three states away, they ALL respond with "you weren't charged, you were raped." HA! You know how simply he could've kept me (and all my friends and family) as a patron? Throw me a free day on the range! It's $20 dude. Seriously. That's it for me. Like the skins, long as he's there, I won't be. I'd be shocked if anyone cares or does anything about it either, as far as I can see, they've never responded to anyone here on Yelp. All the employees were approachable, listened, answered all my questions, and were very professional. I dealt with Chris, and he was very easy to talk with, and he enjoys to laugh. He was knowledgeable and not pushy whatsoever. He provided suggestions, and I made a purchase. Everything went very smoothly with the transaction, including the background check. Additionally, I had an opportunity to speak with the CCW instructor and signed up for class. It was a 2-day evening class, and he's a stupendous instructor. He's very knowledgeable about NC gun laws, and the class was not boring whatsoever. He's unbiased, and there were a handful of students that questioned if they would register to concealed carry. After going to most of the ranges in the Charlotte area, I have settled on Point Blank Range as my preferred place to go shooting, and I go here almost exclusively now. Point Blank Range's facility is new and has a lot of amenities. The range itself is state-of-the-art, and target carriers are all computer controlled, allowing you to set specific distances up to 75 feet. The range officers are friendly, knowledgable, and attentive, and I feel completely safe while I was shooting. I can't say that about all ranges I've been to. Professionalism is the name of the game here. There are rental firearms available, and manufacturers will occasionally be on hand to let you test out some of their newest offerings (FN's SAW, for instance). The range rate is reasonable, and it's for a whole day (unless they get really busy and you've been there for a long time). There are classes available, and they include everything from pistol, rifle, and shotgun basics to more advanced classes, active shooter classes, and more. Brian Zins is their new training director, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he will bring to the table. In addition to the formal classes, Point Blank also offers some fun events like steel challenges and the annual Easter egg shoot. read more

I took my shotgun to have a magazine extension installed. Roy, the gunsmith, met me at his window and started working on my shotgun right away. Instead of leaving the gun there, Roy had the work done in less than 20 minutes for a very reasonable charge. I had to bring the shotgun back for a slight adjustment and left it there on my way to work. Roy called me when it was ready and I picked it up on my way home. No charge. Roy was personable, knowledgeable and professional. I haven't shot at Pointblank yet but if the range is as good as the gunsmith then I'll be a regular customer. I have never been so disgusted with a gun range than with Point Blank Range. After spending around 2 thousand dollars at this business I will not be going back again. They don't care for their customers except what they can get out of them. I purchased my second hand gun there a few months ago and from the first day trying it out the gun was jamming. I got a few of the employees to use the gun themselves and they told me I needed to put around 600 rounds through it first. After shooting the gun for the third time and put to 300 rounds it still had multiple malfunctions. They agreed to send the gun back to the manufacture for repair and inspection. They assured me then they would talk about taking it back. My wife refuses to use the gun is I asked them to let me know what they can give me towards another hand gun. $200 was all they were willing to give and from day one it's been defective. The gun cost $700. You tell me if that's fair? Would you do business with a company that treats you so unfairly? The employee that offer the $200 said it with a smug look on his face and he could care less if I thought it was fair or not. Terrible company to do business with! read more
