Pappy's Gun Shop is far more than a gun shop. It is an experience! Lisa and Jack make it a place that is comfortable and welcoming. It is not fancy but it makes up for that with a 4 bay outdoor shooting range, a part-time shooting instructor who can teach not only SC Concealed Weapons course but also beginner shooting and advanced shooting classes. They also have a large selection of used handguns, rifles and shotguns. They can order guns and they have a reasonable transfer fee. They are personable and "old school" friendly. They are welcoming to all - beginner, advanced, women, children with a parent and anyone interested in the shooting sports. There are signs directing you to Pappy's from the start of Tinkers Creek Road. This is also the home of Central Carolina's Shooting Club that has Steel Challenge matches on the first Saturday of each month and IDPA matches on the second Saturday of each month. Sign up is through Practiscore.com. I always enjoy going there often to keep up my shooting skills. You should do the same. Price is reasonable, paper targets can be bought there or you can bring your own. There are some metal targets on the range. Please do not shoot the metal targets with rifle caliber ammo. As far as places to shoot some guns, Pappy's might be the winner for me when I'm at home in the Carolinas. My favorite part? The place is outside in the middle of nowhere. I'll admit that indoor gun shooting totally freaks me out, and I'm never going to be the girl that goes hunting and actually kills things...so this place works perfectly for me and my gun shooting needs. The owners are fantastic. Super nice, and super reasonable prices! We paid $10 each to shoot for as long as we wanted (granted, we brought our own guns and ammo). Most places are going to charge you a lot more. We went on a beautiful fall day, and it could not have been more perfect. Sunshine, crisp fall air, and great scenery. The only little downside is you do have to drive a little ways out into the country, but for me it's totally worth it. Great place! read more

I really enjoy this range. It's the perfect mix of clean spacious burm style bays with a good staff and gun shop. They have been very accommodating with local shooting sports (IDPA, Steel Challenge, etc) events on the weekends. The fee is very inexpensive to shoot. There's always a good group of people around. It's worth the drive. There's a reason why there's always a good crowd on the weekends. That speaks for itself. read more

The shooting club that I don't quite belong to does their weekly shoots at Pappy's. It's totally out in the middle of nowhere and the shooting courses are little more than bulldozered bits of the hillside. Which is fine not only because it keeps each of the ranges separate, but it somewhat blocks the noise of the BAM BAM BAM from the other ranges. Pappy's shop has a full selection of ammo, which is helpful. He's also a licensed dealer so if you need a weapon shipped, this is a good spot. Unless you're the UPS guy, then perhaps not so much. read more

Yea, this place is a h**l no. It was recommended to me by a coworker and I knew what the views were just by the location and who referred it. I don't care about that at all. A date at an open range has 0 to do with politics, but to my dismay, after being blocked on the driveway coming in, we then had to endure wild comments about black public figures while we waited to pay. Convenient time to discuss that, right? Thankfully no one decided to come to the counter and ever help us. When we heard the comments we exited and decided to spend our money elsewhere, where skin nor political colors matter. read more

Pappys Gun Shop is the best place there is for firearms, ammo, and outdoor shooting. The staff and club members are very professional and kind. I was new to the area and walked in to Pappys and they were very welcoming. They made me feel right at home. That was in 2014. I've been going there ever since for all of my firearm needs. Nice to know that good ol' fashioned small business still exists in the firearm field! I always have and will continue to recommend Pappys Gun Shop to everyone! A place where the owner himself greets you when you come in. Well him, and Jack, and George, and Larry, and Yankee Bob, and quite a few others. I used to love to go to Pappy's, but they raised the price and lowered the service. A buddy and I went 2 weeks ago on a Saturday. I knew it was a club shoot day so we went about 2pm 100 yard range had 1 person on it. IO asked if we could be next. He said maybe depends on if a class shows up to do a CWP test.?!? A CWP test on the 100 yard range. OK we said so we used the short 20 yard range. Person leaves from 100 yard. I go and ask can we use the 100 yard range? "NO we are having a class at 3"It is about 2:15. I say ok how about after the class? "Maybe" So the class ends I go and ask again ok the class is over can we use the range now? "No we have regulars waiting to use it" F*&^ them! If I want to shoot pistols outside and have no other option I may go back. I give up on the 100yard range. read more

I have shot here before, and over the last year or so pappys seems to be getting worse and worse. Firstly, consider bring an offroad vehicle when you go, if the driveway doesnt destroy your passenger car, the way down to range may. Secondly, their website sucks, and is not updated at all. Their pricing is higher tha advertised, (price increase not reflected on website) Also, i just learned today (after a 1 hour drive) that you are no longer allowed to shoot ANY rifles or pistol caliber carbine........i asked the man behind the counter why this was not on the website, and he got all defensive saying they have no way of editing the website, and the guy who did the website work left quite a while ago???????????? Heres an idea pappy......get a new webmaster and come into the 21st century!!!!! Very unprofessional and also note that last i knew they hist events there 1st, 2nd and 5th saturdays of each month, so if you want to shoot and you are not a part of the event, you will have to wait till event is over. read more

Ok they smoke big deal I'm from Georgia where it was legal to smoke in Waffle House just a few years ago. First of all, I read the other reviews, two of them were egregious! If they are rude to you, it's because it's their place, and they don't need some snot-nosed busy body telling them what's what! I love that Jack can be curt, but if people weren't such know-it-alls, they'd realize he's actually a really nice guy. He swapped out my muzzle-break on my AR-15 gratis, and when I was a noob I was in there waving my rifle around a little while I was talking, and Pappy(I know his name, but I'm not tellin')calmly told me he didn't like having his picture taken. The truth is, the owner and the folks that work there are hard-working veterans, and they don't owe anyone anything! So if you want them to be nice to you all you have to do is treat them with the respect they deserve, it's that simple. The range is fantastic! You have 5 individual and private lanes to choose from, a 100yd, 3-thirties, and one that is slightly larger than the thirties, and yes it does get busy, but it's first come first served, so plan ahead. It's not like these other corporate places where you pay $15/30 mins or more, as long as you respect the people there and follow the rules you can bring friends and have a fun day of shooting, just don't take the brass unless it's yours! I love this place, I love the guys that work here, and I love their Pre-everyone-gets-a-trophy attitude. You don't like it, good, don't let the door whack you in the behind on your way out! I wish I could own it myself, I'd move to Chester County and take good care of those boys, their the salt of the earth! read more

At first I was excited to find a range in Rock Hill that was a little more safe than the other RH range however the service here is terrible. It's a good ol' boys club and the guy working the counter and the phone is horrendous and rude. I called to ask if they were open the day after Thanksgiving and his response was "I answered the phone, didn't I?" I've been asked to leave the range after the 1 hour time limit, however if you're a female waiting for a bay to open up with people waiting and a man is in the bay, don't expect them to offer any help or have them ask a man to leave. I will drive 2 hours away to a better range just to not have to deal with these horrible people. read more
