Pretty awesome place.....like a mancave x10000 went here for a couple of seminars and checked out the store...which has cool stuff in it... We had fun here and spent more than we even dreamed we would. There is so much stuff you never knew existed, like bunkbed cots! Or 2 room tents ! And cool stuff to use when cooking over an open fire. I bought a collapsible cup like my friend in the 2nd grade had. As you walk up the sidewalk you start to get a little excited inspite of yourself, especially when you see the man selling kettle corn and lemonade by the front door. Carnival -ish! I think I heard circus music. Too much gushing, my point is, if you're planning a camping trip, you will go BERSERK here and like it. Love the selection and staff at Cabelas. Almost always if I arrive specifically looking for a certain item they have it and if not they are always more then happy to help me get it. The staff in the clothing department is phenomenal! Tammy was super helpful and on several occasions has seemed to go out of her way with suggestions and help and she does an excellent job making sure the customer is always leaving happy! I really want to like this store but after trying for several years I am going to give and spend my money at other GREAT outdoor stores in the same area. I was in the women's department for a good 20 minutes and there was NO ONE around to help. I went to the shoe department and while there 7 customers there was only 1 staff person (doing the best she could) but it was the first Saturday of spring and it was busy! As usual they did not have the shoe I was interested in - in my size. No, I don't want to order it online - that's why I drive into a box store. I headed up front and found no less than 4 employees standing up front visiting. This is a very common site. I got lost in the abundance of archery items and plethora of Big Buck hunter pro and Safari machines. I counted six and Cabelas runs their own gaming tournaments so your rated against other shoppers of the many nationwide stores, that means a better payout for you the super awesome gamer shooting geek. I've heard that some families come during the day, shop and enjoy lunch and dinner here. The store is massive and there is a whole lot to see. They have a large room labelled as the clearance cave with tons of deals. Banquet halls that can be rented for parties and a life sized walk through aquarium. LOVE IT! I was at wit's end trying to find a remote static collar for my dachshund/beagle/yorkshire terrorist mix. The one I had bought at a nearby pet supply chain was having major battery issues. Sure, it was small, but battery life was equal to how long it takes him to down a cookie. This is not an exaggeration, folks. I called Cabela's on the recommendation of the guy at aforementioned pet supply chain. He said that it's his other job, and he knew they had good collars there. When I called, the guy I talked to was SO helpful (I think his name might have been Mike?), he understood my frustration and was very polite. He listened patiently while I told him my little mutt's life story and exactly what I was looking for. He then went through the collars available and found the perfect one for my monster. He checked the price to make sure it was in my price range, made sure it was safe for a smaller dog, and double-checked to make sure that it had rechargeable batteries in both the remote and the collar. (It was the SportDog 400 Field Trainer, if anyone is curious.) He gave me the item number and exactly where I could find it in the store so I could run over there on my lunch. I got the collar back, charged it up, and it's been wonderful! Excellent quality, superb battery life, and bright orange so I can see him at the dog park! Overall, a pretty neat store. I also got some new sunglasses here, once. I have long since lost them, but they were nice and sturdy and weren't those stupid looking "make you look like a fly" type sunglasses that I see everywhere. I don't like hunting for "sport", but if I ever manage to go on that camping trip I've been planning for three years, I know where to go for quality stuff! I will definitely be back! read more

I purchased a Smith & Wesson 9 mm gun from Cabelas website on March 18, 2020 and was given a pick up date for April 8, 2020 at the store location in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. A few days later I also received a second email stating for me to confirm order to be picked up from store location so I did. So today a few weeks after making my purchase online I go to the store to pick up my order and to my surprise they did not receive my order and in fact it was canceled due to item being out of stock! I am pissed off and disappointed to say the least!What happened to customer service and common courtesy? Why couldn't anyone reach out and communicate to me/your customer prior to wasting their time!?! Beware if you do plan on purchasing handgun from Cabela's you might be wasting your time and effort's just to wait and find out there's nothing for you waiting at the store for you to pick up. read more

So I was forced to come to Cabela's with the hubby because he received a 10% coupon in the mail (and of course you HAVE to use the coupons you get!!!). So we made the treck to the Hoffman Estates Cabelas, which my hubby is a regular at ;). He raves about their hunting section and always seems to find great clearance deals and sale deals on items! This last time we went, I was ACTUALLY in search of something at Cabelas...my hubby was TOO excited that I was actually on a mission there as well! I was in search for some Keens for our upcoming vacay. Their shoe prices are quite impressive...they had Keens for $59 to $75...of course the ones I wanted were the $75...on their clearnce rack, I found Keens for my hubby for only $44!!!!!! And they fit!!!!!!!!!!! I was a bit worried we wouldnt be able to use our coupon on clearnce items or the Keens brands...but nope! My hubby's Keens turned out to be $40 and mine $67..WHAT A DEAL!!! Cabelas is my new favorite place!!! In all honesty, not a place I would come to on a regular basis, but the hubby always finds great deals and they do have great customer service..AND AND AND...a fudge shop with an AWESOME selection! How can you pass up on some delicious apple pie or OREO fudge???? read more

So I had to stop in here to buy my dad a Father's Day gift. This is like every sportsman's dream. There is a big deer head on the wall. This place is PACKED with merchandise. It was a really pretty store. Plus, my dad loves it here. He likes to go shooting with friends so he buys his ammo and whatever other equipment here. Nice store. ok, here we go..... First encounter with Cabela. I called in the morning and spoke with a gentleman. I inquired about a particular item, a concealed carry gun. He said that it was a high quality piece and should come in and check it out for weight, balance, etc. He told me that it was going on sale the very next day, but they had some now, just not at the Special Thursday (Black Friday) price. No problem, I'll be right in, (35 miles later), they tell me they have NONE IN STOCK! WHA!!!! I said, but I was told they are in. The man behind the counter showed me that their inventory was not only "0" but they were -32 in the hole!!! This is called "BAIT AND SWITCH". Then I asked where they kept their Smith and Wesson Expanding Batons, a man walks me over pulls it off the hook, hands it to and says here ya go, $39.99. I'll take it but first I'm going to register a complaint with the customer service person, named Cathie. blah, blah, blah, ok lets move on, I ask to pay for my Baton and I get a totally different price from Cathie. I said that can't be right, the man in that dept. just gave it to me and said it was 39.99 she said, no that was for the smaller size, this is the correct size. So I said, I will go get the smaller size, which would be better anyway. GUESS WHAT??? THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE SMALLER SIZE!! Another sales associate, told me, this is the right size and price, so he processed the order and I paid for it and headed back to inform Cathie and the new trainee what the correct price was. She told me I and he were both wrong, as she scanned it again. I showed her my receipt, and yet I was STILL in error. She said "well, he must have adjusted the price because my scanner doesn't lie". I suggested that they really need to get their act together, to which she mumbled some unpleasantries to me. I decided to simply leave and not escalate what was already a fouled up morning thanks to their incompetence. Cabela's Hoffman Estate is very disrespectful as service wise to Healthcare workers and Disabled Vets. I was challenged by the Manager(Greg P) and was told by the Op's Mgr Neal of a policy or procedure that was not written anywhere in the store.(That the store closed at 4pm as the Door said 6pm). I was there to pick up my Firearm While standing there he (Neal) let two Young Caucasian youths walk right in toward the firearm section, and this is when Greg P told me that I was on camera and i was recorded and he had witnesses. After my wife and I was stopped at the door minutes before them. We never felt so discouraged as an Trauma Nurse( 20 Years) at the Local Hospital and me been a disabled Vet in my 12 years of service. Because of this incident I will never step foot in Cabela's Or Bass Store again I will get all my gear online or some other Shop.. We have lost all touch with treating Humans as humans. read more

The customer service is horrible!!!! I drove all the way out there from the city just to find out their selection sucks and employees are rude. I asked for 4 different guns just to be told they didn't have them or in the case of the Benelli Supervova it was in back. The salesman told me I could find the weapons I wanted on the "Southside, Cash Only". The same salesman who handed me a shotgun with no buttstock and a pistol grip because "that's my kind of fun". Extremely poor. I am a college student. I am home for the summer and and applied for 8 part-time positions out of the 10 listed on their website. When I got to the interview I went through the entire thing then offered me a job as a full-time boat salesman. Not a summer job. A full on career. Extremely confused, I explained once again that I was a college student and I am going back to school in two months so I cannot accept a full-time job. They put the blame elsewhere. So out of the 8 of the 10 positions I applied for, they managed to pick one random one that I did not apply for. They then proceeded to say that they would call me to set up a new interview. I called multiple times and left multiple voicemails with "Sandra" the woman in charge of hiring, and she never returned my call. In addition to this I have been a customer here since then and have received extremely poor service. I am never intending on going back. Would rate 0/5 if I could. read more

Terrible customer service. I bought a firearm online and came in to pick it up today. I waited about 20 minutes to get help. Then I filled out all the paperwork in about 5 minutes and was ready to go. The staff then said ok you're done and to go get In The back of the line. Approximately 15 customers. I Waited another 40 minutes while the staff assisted other customers who walked up got their weapons and left. I know they were not waiting on Illinois state police approval because I am a police officer and get approved instantly. After an hour I was told I had to come back in 3 days to pick up the rifle due to store policy. This is my first and last purchase with Cabela's. If they didn't have my foid and I didn't pay already I would've walked out. I would give them zero stars if it was an option read more

This store has always been very clean and well stocked of what I've been looking for. The staff has always been willing to assist or help me find something in this expansive store. The gun counter was very attentive when viewing handguns and very knowledgeable. They have always had a good stock of ammunition when I've gone to purchase. The store is huge, just like the other ones, but that is what is great about them. They have high quality products throughout the store. They have the typical display in the middle of the store with stuffed animals and the information on the particular animal. Overall a great store with practically anything you'd need for outdoor activities. read more

Disappointing.... Stopped to purchase a pair of boots for my son. Found a pair that had a sign indicating clearance and what I thought was a very good price. At check out - the boots rang up at regular price. I pointed out that there were three stickers, two referencing the mark down price from the original. I also indicated that the sign with picture of the boots indicated a clearance, with the mark down price that was shown on the box. The person at the check out said she could not sell them for the price clearly marked on the box, called someone from the shoe department who explained: "The clearance price was for the 3 size 13d boots of the same model, not the size 10 1/2 pair" that I was attempting to purchase. The shoe person said she could allow a small discount but could not authorize the sale at the price marked on the box. I left the store and will not be back to it nor will I purchase anything from Cabelas on line. read more

Was going on my first camping trip....and was brought here by a Professional Hunter! This guy knows his stuff and said this is "THE" place to get anything you want. Well I had no idea this place existed, and had no idea this place was set up like it was. Amazing! When you walk in, a huge mountain hits you in the face.....with stuffed animals galore. Deer, bear, raccoons, elk, moose, pheasant's....you have to see it. It was pretty damn cool! The store sells anything and everything for the hunter to the camper. You want a gun? a Knife? Full camouflage body suit? tents? you name it..........they got it! Even if you aren't into hunting or camping I suggest you take a ride and check it out! If you're an outdoors man, its like being a big kid in a toy store!!! read more

Cabela's gun department is shooting itself in the foot. I stop in to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a rifle scope. It's a slow Saturday morning. There are two customers at the gun counter talking to clerks. There's me, obviously looking and scopes and looking for help. Six, I counted, Six clerks are standing around doing the following.... Two clerks with their back to the store complaining that they don't like working this shift and that somebody else should be working. One clerk listening and nodding. One clerk at the end look around in a daze. Two clerks walking around the department, not doing anything that I can tell. I finally grab a clerk. "Excuse me, I'd like to buy a rifle scope." "The woman with the key doesn't start until 11:30." *walks away* The gun department is well stocked. I'll give it that. It's the most expensive option around though. Plus you've got the Cook county Gun and Ammo tax. Well, Amazon sells the same scope for less, no tax, free delivery, no questions asked returns.... In case you're wondering what's killing retail.... I enjoyed my first Cabela's experience at this location. The store is huge- very impressive looking for inside and out- with a significant variety of products for sale. Definitely fewer products for women than for men- but other than that, it was a pleasant experience. We were here to shop for high quality outdoor gear- and we found exactly what we were looking for- though at a price. Products here are top quality and top price- my new winter coat came in at around $200- but I know it will last forever. The service was great- very friendly and helpful in finding items we needed- and my husband and I both left happy and satisfied with the experience. We would definitely return if we needed similar items in the future. read more

**Update** Cabela's has condensed this store down to one floor and closed the eatery upstairs. While the store is now in a depressing condensed format, they still work hard to provide top notch customer service. They still carry the top brands, and prices are decent. You're typical cabela's chain store. The staff here is very friendly and great. They are helpful and knowledgeable, although they are sometimes scarce. It is a wait sometimes before you can find someone to help you. I love the aquarium and mountings display. That never gets old. They also have everything you are looking for pretty much. Terrible customer service is a BAD business practice. I've been buying from Cabela's for years and have been happy with the quality of their products, their product selection, their prices. However, they lost me as a customer today and I will never go back. I ordered some products online and had received an email message saying "all or part of the order" had been shipped to the store. I called the 800# provided to inquire about the status of the order and was told by a courteous rep that the order was not available in the store yet, but that the store would call me when the order was there and ready to be picked up. I wait for a couple of weeks without hearing anything, so I stopped by the Hoffman Estates location today and was told by Jennifer in the pick up area that the package had been sent back to the (catalog warehouse) and that I would receive a credit for my items. When I asked her why I wasn't called as I had been advised by the customer service rep at their 800#, Jennifer told me that "the store doesn't call people" and that the systems were messed up. Sorry Cabela's - internet shopping is not new, there's NO excuse for not having your processes in order here - especially if you're giving customers bad information. Even so, I can't understand why the retail store wouldn't bother to try to contact a customer for a PAID-FOR item before sending the package back and leaving the customer empty-handed. That's just idiotic. Jennifer expressed zero empathy - she just kept repeating that they don't call people from the store and saying the catalog operations are different. She offered to have me buy the items again, then wait for a credit. Really? That's what you come up with to remedy a terrible shopping experience? Sorry Cabela's, you're not the only game in town by a long shot. I'll be more than happy to spend my $$ at Gander Mountain, Bass Pro, REI, Dick's Sporting Goods, or Amazon.com. Went to purchase a shotgun that the website stated was in stock at my store. After arriving and interrupting 3 employees chatting at the gun counter for help (I was the only person there), the employee stated they had none in stock and that the site is never accurate and this is a result of the merger with Bass Pro. I asked for some resolution and he shrugged and said I need to call the 800 number. Flustered, I walked to customer service and after 30 minutes and several attempts with 3 different employees, was able to order the shotgun on-line. My conclusion, employees lack personal and customer service/resolution skills and store policy. All I wanted was to spend money at their store and left understanding why people shop shop on-line and smaller, local gun stores. Frustrating experience. read more

The store is cool and most of the employees are nice. But sometimes the customer service is really bad. Benjamin at the front was super rude and tried avoiding our simple questions and the girl Ana who was next to him was laughing with him and they said they were allowed to refuse us service and kick us out for being out of line when we were just asking questions about rewards. We then went over to get some help with re-spooling our fishing line and the two workers in front of us were telling a story and being racist towards some groups of people. This place is not what it was. At least not this one in hoffman estates. Employees here are rude and short in terms of helping a customer. Especially greg in Customer service at the front desk. This guy does not know what hes talking about or doing which is fine....but when you dont know what your talking about or doing then dont have a know it all attitude and dont send the customer (me) in just any direction.. do your job.... he sent me all the way to the back of the store just for another rude employee to bring me back up to the front. I just went here recently, it is the mall of America for the outdoors. They have everything you could ever possibly want, and things you would have never thought of. It is pricey, but just visiting the store for the atmosphere is well worth it. They have a huge display of animals, and an aquarium full of rainbow trout, bass, walleye, and others. They also have a little food court. I had a venison brat. Honestly wasn't impressed, the food may have been sitting out for a bit and got tough. Bottom line is it's a great store and if you appreciate the outdoors you can have a great time by just visiting. read more

When you first go in the door they bother you to get a credit card that I don't want, and then when you buy ammo because you're in Cook County there's a $0.05 per Centerfire round and a $0.01 per Rimfire round tax I will never buy ammo here again possibly never come back to this store again because everything's overpriced for a bunch of City yuppies. read more
