If I can give this place a zero I would. 1st let start by the staff that takes 30 mins to input an address correctly I think my 3 grader son can type faster then some people Working in here , 2. They don't call you when you have been approved so if you live 30 mins away make sure your gonna take the trip to see at least 3-4 time to even see because they will write a date make you come in and knowing it won't be approved and when you call they said they can't give you any information over the phone l. This place need more of a management team to take over and hire all new staff. That is more up to pace and taking 3 hours per customer. I will also be writing an email to corporate head office. Also to top it off if your arrive at 6:59pm they say they stop taking people at 6:45pm! read more

This location is standard as far as the chain of cabela's goes. What's up with all the Russians in the gun department? Every time I visit here I notice these Russian, smoking, driving like assholes pulling into the store, wearing their FILA tracksuits and buying guns. I spent 3 years of my youth learning how to fight the Russians in the Cold War while stationed in Germany with the Army, now they are all in Hoffman Estates. The good news is they are spending money, this keeping our economy going, the bad news for them is they won't die of lung cancer soon enough. read more

So I went to here to get some 9mm ammo to go to the gun range with my Son-in-law and daughter for Father's Day. Obviously I was excited and looking forward to a quick in and out experience, but Jeez I was wrong! First of all there wasn't much selection in the ammo racks and there was only "One" 500 bullet capacity package....we went over to the cashier area at the gun counter location...3 lighted stations with three cashier's....kinda busy because it's Dad's day, so me and my Son-in-law stood patiently with the ammo can.....the cashier nearest to us finished up and we waited for longer than usual timeframe as this older gentleman just completely ignored us and didn't even acknowledge us waiting at all?? The other two cashier's were helping customers with rifle purchases and handgun too, so we just waited again and then this older gentleman just left the area and went towards the backroom without any dismissal or acknowledgment towards us? Zero...zilch...nada!! No excuse me or I'll be right back or anything.....just left us cold n unserved, I finally just interrupted the other cashier and excused myself asking if we can just take the ammo can to purchase anywhere else.....he replied yes of course you can ....I said well thanks for the help since the other guy just left us stranded and never acknowledged us at all.... He replied "I'm sorry" but you do know there's a surcharge for ammo purchase from "Cook County" right? I just wanna make you aware of this when you pay? That's it....I thought to myself? That's how they replied to us? My Son-in-law has his Army Cap on with his Unit's patch on it and I have my Marine Corps Dad Cap on my head.....not that this should give us any priority towards purchasing but Holy cow maybe something else other than nothing? We reluctantly went towards front checkout area and once again another odd experience...waiting in line as another cashier with light on was just standing there....didn't wave us down or acknowledge us again....I nudged my Son-in-law to move ahead and go on up...the cashier finally replied " Ooh I didn't seeya there"?? He asked about FOID card to make ammo purchase which is customary....rang us up and I paid but then he got sidetracked by another cashier and forgot about us as we waited for the receipt??? I just spent $145.00 bucks on this 9mm ammo can and really felt less than accommodated by this experience overall.... Mind you this is on "Father's Day" and you'd think that customer service would be at the upmost bestest in consideration of this Family oriented day? I have a Bass Pro Shop credit card too and member as well, I'm not going to a Cabella's Store again for anything after this incident.....I'll spend my money elsewhere!! read more

Honestly it's fun to just walk around here and look at all the wild sh*t you never even knew existed. I'm a girl (duh), and i'm not really a sportsman - and so most of this stuff is foreign to me. But i find it absolutely fascinating to look at! It makes me WANT to be more of a sportsman (sportswoman, lol). Seems like they have almost everything you'd ever need for camping, hunting, fishing etc... including clothing, footwear and outerwear! Heck they've even got boats INSIDE the store to check out! There's lots of heads, and stuffed carcuses too. Oh, and beef jerky. Lots of beef jerky. There's also a little deli-type thing where you can buy food and snacks. Overall i think it's fun to come here. After reading several of the other reviews, i'm not sure i'd come here if i were specifically looking for something gun related, sounds like they have issues there. But i do not have personal experience so cannot comment on that. It's off the beaten path a bit. You might think you're going the wrong way. It's essentially almost off on it's own, but right next to the highway. HUGE place! Let the kids run wild. But not too wild. Cuz i'll yell at them to behave. LOL. read more

We visited this location spur of the moment. We had a great time just walking through and looking around. The guy at the gun counter was a asshole and their website is wrong saying stuff is in stock when it really is not

Nice selection of firearms and accessories. Very good service when I bought my pistol last month. The guy who ran my background check was very friendly and helpful. Showed proper procedure by clearing the gun before handing it over for inspection. The guy who took care of me 3 days later was also very good. The problem is how, with ammo in short supply, 'preferred customers' are having ammo set aside for them when they get deliveries. Almost nothing makes it to the shelves. Limit is supposed to be 5 boxes as it is, which is quite a bit with it being in such short supply. It's crap that those who don't have an 'in' don't stand a chance to get a single round. I don't bother with them anymore. read more

It's bass pro shop. It's really neat inside. They have taxidermy in the middle of the shop. It is really cool to see it if you're into hunting or taxidermy. There's archery you can try. It's pretty narrow and small so don't expect massive room for it. There is an area where you can try shooting. It's one of those carnival games. Wasn't able to try it since their token machine was broken. If you're looking for your outdoor needs, this place has it! They have hunting, archery, kayaking, camping, and other outdoor activities merchandise. It is on pricey side. read more

Fall and winter are around the corner so I bought some long sleeve shirts and I found a great pair of size 48 pants. They had sizes up to 52 on some styles of pants. Really good finds. I spent $204 but it's quality material products that will last. The store was exceptionally clean and the staff was helpful. Five stars! read more

I've been coming to this store since 2007 and always had a great time. But I recommend to AVOID the escalator because you will be pestered by a company offering you a vacation packages. They are very persistent and would not take no for an answer. I recommend these PITA should be relocated outside of the store. read more

They have a lot of quality outdoor stuff. I bought a 5 person Coleman tent for $149, which seemed like a good price. Other camping accessories seemed pretty expensive compared to other prices I have seen. read more

Where to begin!!?? We first found this place when shopping for handguns. We purchased our Sig Sauer's (2) spent about $2500 with ammo, guns, and some other goodies. They have a wide selection, however they are a bit over priced. Some times you get a good sales associate and sometimes you get the one who hates his, life and his job and would rather blow his brains out with the gun rather than show it to you. We went to Cabela's this weekend to get some 9mm ammo and the hubs wanted to get the new AR Rifle. We pulled a number (which is sometimes useless because some don't follow the numbers, they simply help who is standing there) our number was called and we got lucky and had Anthony S. as our sales associate. GREAT guy, knowledgeable, patient, friendly and not pushy at all! We originally went in for the Rifle and 2 more hand guns for our carry conceal. We ended up spending about $1100 and didn't purchase the 2 pistols. I lost the desire to continue shopping when one of the sales associates, I believe his name was Nick, very rudely interrupted the gentleman who was helping us to yell about not answering the phones and how proceeds to complain that hes helping people to and shouldn't have to answer all the calls every time the phone rings. Very unprofessional and rude to do this in front of customers! My personal opinion, if you have a customer that you are helping you DO NOT leave that customer to answer the ringing phone you let that damn phone ring!!! 9 out of 10 times the customer in front of you will be making purchase, NOT the caller who probably wants to know what time you close!!! Nick I hope you read this for your sake!! So because of Nick's inability to ignore the ringing phones and unload his frustration on the wonderful sales associate who was helping us, Cabela's lost an additional $1400 in sales. On and ending note, you really have to be a very patient person to shop here unless you go when they are extremely slow and not busy at all! 3 stars for the huge selection of things (not gun safes or cabinets though) and only 3 stars do to the lack of wonderful customer service and organization on how to handle customer service. read more

They have a large selection of guns (handguns under the counter, shotguns on the wall) as well as youth guns. I even saw a pink one! Camouflaged giant tents that make you feel like you're in a camouflaged space pod. Bullets bullets bullets, fishing tools galore. I mean this is a real hunters haven for real. And aside from that the place is decorated with tons of taxidermy which I've put some pictures up of! They have a cafe on the second floor, an escalator and an elevator (tree themed!) As far as the cafe is concerned, they only have one sized soft drink. A family was there eating hamburgers which looked HUGE! They have a clean area for eating, all wooden looking, and I admit it, I snuck 4 refills...not sure if I was supposed to do it or not. But the drink size was so small and I honestly must have drank just a bit more than the size of a large McDonald's drink for a dollar, so in that respect I probably didn't get a good deal. However, I did get some raspberry iced tea out of it. The mom in the family that was there did the same. Both of us felt guilty ha! Everyone I ran into there was very pro gun, friendly as hell and one man asked me as I was taking pictures of 'those poor animals' and asked me if I was against hunting. "Well...I don't really think I care one way or the other honestly." I told him and he replied, "good answer!" and said his smiling goodbyes. I would recommend coming here to handle what you think about buying and then do your research on where you want to make your purchase. Bullets and other accessories for different hunter sports are easily accessible keep in mind, and if you get a load of the stuffed turkey behind one of the counters! read more

I went with my boyfriend to pick up a $1400 gun he had ordered online. We had two other cancellations to make for guns we had ordered online. We were helped by an older mustache heavy set man named Mike who worked at the gun counter. When we asked to pick up the gun and cancel the two other orders, he rolled his eyes and went to the back room. I have never experienced such rude customer service before even after buying a gun this price. When he returned from the back room, he had all three guns with him and stated that we could not take them home even after we waited the statutory 72 hours and that it was "too much paperwork" to do the cancellations. He complained about the amount of "changes to the paperwork" it would take to do the cancellations. This is part of his job. Needless to say, after his attitude we cancelled all three guns and won't be coming back. Go to Article II in Lombard instead! Much nicer staff and won't roll their eyes about doing their job. read more

Cabela's and Bass pro shops, in Cook County charge $0.05 per round and a 10% tax, plus a gun tax. Regardless they had a sale on the p365 listed online for $439. I was readily going to purchase this gun, but they were sold out the same day of the sale. I went to numerous stores and was told the same thing. "Sorry gun not available", and no rain checks available. So they said to try to order online. I did this at several stores that was told "limited stock unable" to order online. I called the corporate customer service office and they said this is simply a promotion to get you in the store. This is the worst way to do business as every other store would issue a rain check for any sale items that sold out. I am never shopping at Bass pro shops or Cabela's again. (F- rating) for customer service. They could have offered a discount on another gun! read more

To all my friends and family members who love hunting or buy weapons for home protection. Let me take this moment to vent out the horrible experience that I had at Cabela's out in Hoffman Estates. I get in line as they told me if I was there to pick up a firearm. So I get in line and knowing that they are busy it was going to take a while, so after waiting in line for approx 25 minutes and being the only customer in line at that time. No one had the curtsey to acknowledge my presence nor anyone else came up to me from the other part of the counter to help me or tell me that I would be attended soon. After the customer that was in front of me was done. The associate stared at me from head to toe and not saying anything walked away. So I waited again patiently for another 10 minutes until someone came up to me and said "what are you here for". I replied I'm here to pick up my weapon as I was told it was ready for pickup. He takes the audacity to ask me; "did you already pay for it? And has your background cleared". Again I replied by saying yes or why else would I be here. So he decides to ask for my ID's and walks in the back and doesn't come back for another 10 minutes. As I start looking at the other people who were there that came after were leaving allot faster than I was and they were treated with the utmost respect. I again patiently waited for them to bring my firearm. Once they brought it they didn't even give me the chance to reinspect the weapon as I was told "everything is there". Again I ignored the comment as I just wanted to leave. Still noticing that everyone else who came after me was leaving allot faster than me. Last I'm given the final paperwork to sign and fill out as I hand over the paperwork he sees something on my paperwork and crinkles it up and mumbled "need manger approval". Walks to the manager on duty in the department and asks if he can sign the paperwork. As he was inspecting another weapon; decides to stop and stair at me and makes the comment that threw me over the edge inside; "tell him that he's going to need to wait". The service person walked away and the later comes up to me and put my weapon in a bag and nonchalantly tossed it to me and says "there you go" and walks away. All this happened in front of my 12 year old son. I know this is a long comment but as those who know me. My patients and respect to others is big, especially in the service industry as I was once there. Cabela's please do not treat people different just by their appearance or by their ethnic group as you never know that you might have a repeat customer as I was planning on buying another weapon today from then but not anymore. read more

Couple of issues. First one is their online inventory system. I was in the market for firearm and ammo and few times I see item in stock, I go through purchasing screens and "purchase" item, only to find out few days later that my order was cancelled because item is out of stock. Feel like someone took item from me and preferentially gave it to someone else. Same with ammo. In stock and by the time I click purchase there is an error saying that item cant ship to store. Second issue, false information that caused me to travel hour to and hour back for nothing, and I did not know the procedure as the first time gun buyer, is the background check time. So first time I went to store to fill out background check application. Employee told me that I was lucky because he sees that check will be done in 72 hours and that I can come in and pick up the gun in 3 days. So my fault, I did not call to confirm, after 3 days I drive and get there only to be said that check lasts 7-8 days and that I was missinformed. Second purchase great in store experience. Website and inventory system still glitchy but in store service and attention very good. Love my Sig read more

Beautiful store. We are visiting from California and everyone was very nice. One employee gave my kids free tokens to play the arcade shooting range upstairs. I bought 3 things. They overcharged me on 2 of them! I point this out and the shoo me over to the customer service line. LINE. For the first hour I was there, employee after employee wants to pop out of every nook and cranny asking if I need help. But now that I need help, along with the rest of us standing in the long ass customer service getup, the employees just stroll by and stare at you. Poor Austin. He handled the line as best he could and remained pleasant doing it. Good for you Austin. Hang in there! read more

I called Cabela's in Hoffman Estates, IL to ask about trolling motors. Spoke to a salesman named Mike and explained what I was looking for. Mike told me the Minn Kota I was looking for was not in stock. The next day I went to Cabela's and spoke to Fred, who told me that Cabela's does have what I'm looking for and that Mike does not know what he is talking about. I bought the motor. When i installed in on my boat, I realized it was not what I was looking for. I guess Mike was right. I called Cabela's and talked to Fred. He told me Minn Kota is going to mail the parts to me. Trusting that Fred was telling the truth, I agreed to wait for the parts. Months went by and every time I talked to Fred he told me the parts would arrive in the mail. This went on for some time. Fred told me to call the manager (Lucas). I talked to Lucas who told me he would call Minn Kota and get back to me. Weeks went by and I called Lucas back. He told me Minn Kota has not gotten back to him yet. Another few weeks went by with me consistently reaching out for updates. Finally Lucas got back to me and said " I'm sorry". My Salesman made a mistake. I told him that I relied on that salesman's word, and without the extra parts he promised me, I'd now have to return the trolling motor I'd previously purchases. Lucas then told me that I could not return the motor because I had it over six months. It is important to note that I had not used the boat during this period. So this is how Cabela's works - tell the customer that the parts are in the mail until six months pass by and the product is no longer eligible for return?? After 45 minutes on the phone, with me just telling Lucas that I just want the parts, Lucas goes onto Minn Kota's website and tells me the parts are not in stock and asked if I would be okay with a gift card instead of a refund on the motor. I told him that I would take a gift card if that was my only option. The next day I called Minn Kota and told them what I was looking for. Minn Kota told me the trolling motor Cabela's sold me was the wrong motor. In short, Fred sold me a trolling motor I didn't ask for or need and then convinced me to wait around for over six months for extra parts from Minn Kota. When those parts never materialized, Lucas (the store manager) refused to let me return the trolling motor due to the passage of time, and then incorrectly told me that Minn Kota did not have the parts in stock (when the parts were in fact in stock at Minn Kota). Absolutely terrible customer service read more

WARNING: WALKING INTO CABELA'S WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO... -Eat red meat -Hunt and shoot furry woodland creatures -Stuff said furry woodland creatures -Vote Republican I think I fell in love with this store the moment I walked in and saw a sign for the cafe advertising the $5.99 chicken fried steak lunch special. A good omen indeed. Man, where to start with how great this place is. I could seriously spend all day here looking at rods, lures, boats, camping gear, clothes, canine first aid kits, turkey decoys, things with pictures of Labrador Retrievers embroidered on them, and of course the people buying things with pictures of Labrador Retrievers embroidered on them. There really are delights around every corner. They also have a mini natural history museum going on here with a giant rock formation in the center of the store complete with stuffed big horn sheep, moose, cougars, bears, and countless other creatures. It was my brothers birthday and he wanted to go to Cabela's. Sure, I'll go with. I'll even buy you a birthday present there! So, the brother and sis-in-law and I took the convertible out to Hoffman Estates last Saturday. It's a really big store, but not as big as it looks from outside. They have almost completely closed the upstairs. There is no shopping on the second floor anymore, but there are restrooms, conference rooms, and a display. The first floor is filled with every kind of outdoors item you can think of. Personally, when I think of Cabela's I think of hunting and fishing, but they do have more than just that. They have lots of clothes and shoes for hiking and camping. A decent size home-goods department and general store carries grills, cooking and dehydrating small electronics, and specialty foods. Greg wanted to look for a holster and some predator calls. We were asked multiple times if we needed any help, there were plenty of staff roaming around in case you had a question. Greg decided on the inside the pants leather holster and an electronic predator call. Happy Birthday Greg!! These decisions took about an hour each to make. Their selection at Cabela's is just so vast and varied. The large display in the middle of the store of taxidermy'd animals and a live aquarium is very well done and interesting to take a stroll around. They have a wide variety of large and small game expertly displayed. If you're looking for hunting, fishing, camping, outdoorsy kinda stuff, then check out Cabela's. It's worth the trip. read more

It was like seeing a child's face when they first walk into Disney World!! (He is an avid fisherman) This is a huge two-floor, hunting, fishing, camping, sporting, boating mecca. I did enjoy the walk-thru fish aquarium. Do you need Timberland, Columbia, "Life is Good" attire? Do you need multiple fishing lures, licenses, rods, or gear? This place is a bit of a trip for me but I'm glad I came here as it provides an alternative to Bass Pro, and as one other reviewer states... it's like a Dicks Sporting Goods on steroids! As soon as you step in, the background really catches your attention and you immediately know your going to be here for a while, even if it is to just brows around. The clothing selection is enormous and I'll add at fairly good prices. Perhaps timing was good on my part, but there also seemed to be a ton of special sales going on too. While in the firearms section, my wife and I were wanting to check out a few handguns and we realized they were calling out numbers just as most deli counters do to ensure people are served in the right order. I've never seen this set up at a hunting goods store, but I've spent a lot of aggravating times at other counters and quickly understood the value of having this simple, yet highly organized concept. Then once our number was called, Anthony F., proceeded to show us the merchandise and was a wealth of information. I liked the fact that he took the time to address, in some detail, the questions my wife posed. We easily spent 30 minutes here and Anthony was highly professional the entire time. Overall, for the firearms area I was impressed with their overall selection and stock. The ammo section was also well stocked and I didn't have cause for sticker shock either. From there we moved onto safes, took a walk through the little aquarium, and browsed around the fishing tackle area. Along the way we had questions for other staff members, all of which were adequately addressed with a high degree of professionalism and confidence in their answers. Although this was our first visit, you can bet we will defiantly be coming back, even if it is a hour drive for us. If your timing is good and your coming in from the North, after visiting Cabela's, stop in at the Lucky Monk for lunchtime. read more

What do I know about Cabela's is limited to my myopic view that it caters to hunters and bass fishermen. Not a friendly confines to me, but the day we were there to buy chairs, they had a boat "show", so I was sufficiently entertained by the Bayliners and counterparts. Stepping into the main entrance of the building, which is actually around the corner upon driving into the grand entrance, one is greeted by a huge diorama of stuffed creatures. In the middle of the store, there's a tunnel aquarium. The store is very well laid-out, and in addition to the usual fishing, hunting, camping outfits, there's also a gun gallery, arcade, general store and food court. There's also a boat shop that repairs, services and winterizes your boat. Oh, there's even a horse corral in the parking lot. read more
