I haven't bought a gun from here yet. The selection seems pretty good compared to other places I've visited. They are not up in your business while looking and trying to sell you something that they want personally for their safe. They correct problems after buying stuff online which I do since I live over an hour away. It's nice to order up online then they do call saying it is in to pick up. It isn't often that I leave a review, but this time I just can't help myself. I am honestly amazed at the customer service I received at Marengo Guns, yesterday. From not one, but two of their associates. I had stopped in to ask questions I had about an online purchase I made earlier in the week. I was immediately approached by a young man named Kerry who wanted to know if there was anything he could help me with. He graciously answered my questions and offered further assistance pertaining to any other firearms inquiries I might have. After a browse around their store I returned to the cashier, a young woman named Taylor, who already had items I had left on the counter,in a box and ready to go. I only bring this up because I was honestly impressed with the way they treated not only me but other customers as well. Me and my gf were just in there and we have been to several gun shops in the area and by far they are the most unsafe and unhelpful shops we have ever been to there prices are extremely confusing and random several of there firearms are left open and could easily be loaded and used with out anyone knowing we were there for over an hour and a half and not one person asked if we needed help. Double shotguns left open with nothing stopping you from loading and shooting them ar15 with nothing stopping you from loading a mag chambering a round and shooting as well as several pump shotguns that have nothing stopping you from chambering a round by far the most unsafe and unprofessional 10/10 would not recommend read more

They have a good inventory but their customer service is the worst I have ever seen. The staff is rude, if you can get them to talk to you. Made a purchase online intending to pick up in store later. Get the confirmation email and in small print it says "item may be on backorder". Nowhere in the website or during checkout did it say this. I call the store. No answer. Call back a little later, again no answer. Every time it goes to a recording saying they're busy, no way to leave a message. I email and keep calling over the next three days. I never talk to a single person or hear from anyone about my purchase, which was charged to my credit card. I'm now disputing the charge with my bank and trying to get my credit card refunded. Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away from these guys. They're pure criminal trash. read more

Heard their commercials about offering top dollar for your guns. Stopped in to see how much they would give me for a pistol that had less than 1000 round shot through it. Their commercial states that they have 'expert' appraisers onsite. That was a joke. They barley looked at the pistol (Sig Saur) and offered me $150 for it. So insulting not just the price but that they didn't even take the time to really look at it. Their shelves were bare, they didn't even have one like it in stock. Ended up going down the road to Gilbert Guns. They sold it on consignment for me and I got $400 for it. Marengo Guns does NOT offer top dollar for your guns! Go elsewhere folks! Of course given the location of this place me and my buddies expected a certain amount of whispered concern, even though they have made previous purchases at this place. However, we were all shocked when I was approached by a store employee and asked to produce my FOID card. I was told that I look suspicious because I was wearing gloves and prescription sunglasses, on a sunny day in the mid of winter. (I'm a clean cut professional) I complied and produced my card. THE GUY DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE! So why not just put a sign on the door saying saying "NO BLACKS ALLOWED"? Or whatever colorful phrase you'd like. read more

I have purchased several firearms from Marengo guns. I believe at last count it was 8 thus far. They are local for me so it's kind of a no brainer when your looking for something they have in stock. Prices are relatively cheaper then most of the other gun stores in the area and they do have a great selection for you to choose from. Your not going to get much help from the staff outside of getting rang up to give them your money. In most instances I would rather be left alone anyway so it generally works out great. When I generally go to a different store is when I'm looking for items I know they don't or won't have in their shop. I've purchased several other guns that I had to special order and due to not wanting to deal with the staff at Marengo I just went to another local gun dealer and had them special order what I wanted. The staff is very hard to read here. I've dealt with them a few times when trying to trade guns in and get no where fast because they will not pay you what your gun is worth. I took a M&P shield 9mm and a Springfield XDS both with holsters, 2 extra mags, the boxes and even the crimson trace flashlight/laser combo on both with the holsters and was offered 275.00 for both guns. When I said I had more then that tied up in the flashlight/laser combos and stated I'd sell the guns for that price but was going to take the extras off then the price dropped. The M&P was a performance center model as well. If you know what you want it's a good place. If you have a bunch of questions or are trying to save a few bucks by trading in to get cash for what you want, go somewhere else. Both the guns I tried trading in were bought for my wife and had less then 200 rounds through them because she didn't like the feel. Basically they were barely used and cleaner then every other used gun they had hanging on their wall at the time and they still insulted me with prices way to low for the trade in value. I had a fantastic shopping experience at Marengo Guns! I did not check their website and I did not try calling them - I just drove out because of the fact that all the guns are on the wall. I loved the fact that I can walk around and hold the guns as much as I can without making anyone wait on me. I was able to quickly understand how certain guns feel in my hands as I moved freely around the store and held them multiple times. A big shout to the salesman - Danny who patiently and courteously explained about many different guns. He let me hold a few guns out the box to see how they feel when unlocked. MG prices are also very competitive and some models a nearly $100 less than in other stores. It was the best experience I ever had in any of the gun shops. After a favorable post and recommendation from one of my neighbors on our community Facebook group, I finally got a chance to drive out to Marengo (13 miles) and visit this store yesterday. I recently moved to Lakewood from Ft. Lauderdale and I've been checking out the nearby gun stores as time permits, trying to find one to replace the awesome store/range I patronized in Florida (Nexus Shooting Range). While Marengo Guns, unfortunately, doesn't have a range, their gun store is the best I've seen so far since I moved here. Their biggest attraction is the fact that they have nearly all of the popular guns on the market hanging on the walls and on individual "manufacturer sorted" tables of the display area. These are all available for customers to pickup and handle, dry fire and cycle as much and as often as they want to, at their own leisure and cadence without needing a salesman to constantly take it down and hand it to them one by one upon request. Thus you can easily check out dozens of guns for fit, feel, operation and ergonomics to see what fits your hand best and what you like the operation and feel of without having to continually ask a salesman for assistance. They have hundreds of these display guns and it's very likely they'll have the ones you're interested in buying. The staff seemed professional, knowledgeable and cordial, no issues or "attitudes" to deal with so far, although I barely needed to speak to anyone since I could "self serve" everything I needed. I bought a Glock magazine take down tool and a TruGlo dovetail mounting plate for a Glock and a Trijicon RMR. Both had prices as good as or better than I could find online for the same item. After reading a little more online and using the tool, I can't really recommend either of these items over those from other manufacturers, but that's not the store's fault, that's the manufacturer's problem and I should have done my homework first. Gun prices were very reasonable based on my limited knowledge of current pricing, and I saw a Sig P365 for $489 which is noticeably less than I've seen it elsewhere, either online or in stores. FFL transfers are $15 which is the best price I've found since moving to Illinois. They have tons of ammo in stock, all at good prices beating many online stores. Accessories were also priced very competitively, such as the TruGlo items I purchased and the holsters I saw. I also saw a couple of quality gun belts for around $60 which is competitive. I took off one star for not having a range to try out guns (ie rentals), for not participating in Glock GSSF blue label pricing, and for the fact that although their new gun prices were very good, their used gun prices were pretty high, although in their favor they often have sales running on used guns, bringing the price back down. If I was just comparing against other gun stores and not including other gun stores with ranges, then I would give them 5 stars. Based on my one visit yesterday, I would strongly recommend this store for those interested in purchasing a new gun and wanting to "handle" many choices to check for fit, feel, aesthetics and ergonomics and select one without needing to test shoot it first, or for those who already know what they want, and just want to find a local store with competitive pricing to buy it from. I'd also recommend the store for ammo, parts and accessories due to their large selection and favorable pricing. read more

Marengo guns is about a 100 miles away from me but I go there all the time for all my firearm related needs. Their prices beat other stores by a lot!! Their ammo is VERY affordable and nicely packed in plastic bags of 100. Their staff is mostly friendly (only had one odd interaction with a guy) but overall great! They do not have a range which is a bummer (by the way -- OnTarget in crystal lake is a good one to go to)! But you can always get advice from them as to which firearm is best for you. Their used section is not really big but they do have a lot of guns on display which you can touch and try (no live round tho! ;) ). It's nice to be able to hold them and feel them and not have to ask a sales rep every time to pull them out of the glass case. They also have a good selection of gear and holsters and everything at a VERY competitive price. Like I said -- even though it takes me 2 hours and 3 toll booths to get down there I still decide to make the hike every time I need a bag of .45's or a new gun! read more

I double checked the website and stock number and spoke with an employee. The employee advised me that they had changed suppliers for the rifle and now the price was $440. Nice selection but your diamond you bought on Monday is a worthless piece of quartz on Friday with them. LOW ball offers on guns (pawn shop level). If you don't want to give your guns away for trades and can deal with the slightly higher prices, at least you get a pretty good selection. You will NOT get close to the better end of the deal and count on a loss at purchase and trade-in but a true hardcore gun fiend won't care because of the selection they have. I used to come to this store at least twice a year because of their wide selection of guns. I went there a few months and the walls that used to display handguns were bare. Guns and ammo are a hot commodity now, so the selection might be limited but the staff is really helpful and knowledgeable. For first time gun buyers, I personally suggest to buy a revolver instead of a semi-auto. A .38 or .357 are perfect for self-defense and home protection. Statistically, most shootings occur within 21 feet and a six shot revolver should suffice. Make sure that you go to the range to periodically practice, so if the time comes to use the weapon you are proficient. I understand the need for self and home protection since carjackings , armed robberies, burglaries and home invasions are skyrocketing in Cook County, DuPage and Kane County. If you have questions about guns and ammo, the staff will gladly give the answers. Very professional. read more

RatingEek! Methinks not. Found what I wanted on their website. Tried calling 3 days in a row trying to confirm they had my choice in stock. Phone went to voicemail each time. I was hoping their website was up to date. I drove 45 miles for nothing. They didn't have many of the guns that I wanted to compare in stock,although they had them listed as 'in stock'. Add to that the fact they had 1 young guy that wouldn't even leave the counter to help me out. This place is the Walmart of firearms-Correction- Walmart has much better service. Went to GAT guns in Dundee and got excellent service and spent my $900.with someone who worked with me. I wouldn't buy a box of 22s from Marengo,low price or not. read more

Very nice store and good prices all around. If you know what you want and are knowledgeable this is the place to come because the employees are not going to be standing over you as you look at a firearm, like they do at GAT. All the firearms are out on display to look at freely after you show the front counter your FOID card, which is nice since other stores you have to wait for someone to hand you something from a display case. Only down side is they have a odd policy if you use them for an FFL transfer. The law is (for long guns) a 24 hour wait from the time you purchase the firearm, which means by the time it ships and they get it that 24 hours has long passed. All my other FFL's would give it to me the day it would be delivered. These guys make you wait 24 hours after you fill out a 4473, and will tell you that's the law which is not true, and I was about to pull the law up on my phone when he changed his mind and said it's policy instead. Which to play it safe I don't blame them, but the savings of using them as a cheaper FFL is not worth driving out to them twice. Overall, I will be back here for all other firearm related dealings. read more
