Love this place for its environment. Chairs and tables of various heights and sizes make up different corners of the room so it feels like being in someone's living room. People here are quieter than the usual patron of an average beverage place or coffeeshop, there's no coffee grinders whirring for you to hear, no yelling, no board games, and both times I've gone they've had a great soundtrack playing quietly overhead (once they played a guitar cover of Studio Ghibli music). DELICIOUS. I have mixed feelings about writing this rave review because I worry that this stellar gem will become overcrowded, but I'm writing it anyway, so to hell with it. This place has charm shooting out of every nook and cranny. From the moment you enter the door, you've entered a new, narniaesque dimension - so long Clear Lake, hello, Little Vietnam! The owner is charming and warmly welcomes you with equal patience and kindness. The coffee shop has French-occupied Vietnamese influences, and the delicious pastries (though sadly not much of a selection) and exquisite teas bear their culinary heritage. The artwork is visible from the bar at the ordering counter to the walls, decorated in reds and muted browns, to the beautiful ceiling with its wood beams. The music wafting in the air was lovely: one moment it was Andrea Bocelli and the next it was a popular jazz singer. I ordered an iced taro almond tea with jelly and Madeline cookies. The taro tea was perfectly milky and not "watery". I had the option to sweeten it with my sweetener of choice (sugar, honey, agave) and I chose honey. The Madeline cookies were baked by the owners friend, but had to be warmed in the microwave. I really like that the tea was able to be customized and not some pod that was simply dumped into a cup, like some other tea house chains in the area. The homemade cookies were a special touch, too. ok. let's just get something out of the way. i love all things Asian. i love the food. i love the art. the drinks. the language. the soap operas. the spas. i especially love Vietnamese coffee. In fact, i am considering a trip to Vietnam, in part, to bask in the glory of daily Vietnamese coffee for a short period of time. but ALAS, ca phe phin has SAVED me thousands of dollars (for now) by opening their shop in Clear Lake. Their coffee menu is vast. They offer standard western coffees (Lattes, Cappuccinos, etc) and Viet coffee. They also offer their own spins on Vietnamese coffee. They have a huge variety of teas, and smoothies too. don't forget the boba, coffee jelly (YES!) and ice cream (matcha green tea, FTW!!). they have live music occasionally. I would offer 5 stars if they were open earlier when I was on the way to work. they don't open until 9am ): They are closed on Tuesday...why....? Also, if they offered banh mi, i'd be knocked up a star too. (they do have some croissant sandwiches, but i just like the standard banh mi). To tell the truth, I first came here thinking I'd find Vietnamese food, but no. You will find only desserts, drinks, and croissant sandwiches. Some days you might get live music (which is usually 1 person singing & playing a guitar). They also have free WiFi. 1st Visit: I bought the flan, chocolate eclair, Thai tea frappe, and the croissant with sausage & cheese and paid a total of about $16. The desserts tasted like they were from the local Kroger's. I was not impressed. The Thai tea frappe was too sweet. This is the 1st time anyone has ever RUINED my Thai tea (my fave drink)! 2nd Visit: Rosebud tea. Interesting - it had lots of little rosebuds floating at the top. Interesting taste. I thought it was okay. 3rd Visit: Thai tea. I was not impressed. This is the 2nd time anyone has ever RUINED my Thai tea! Was it real Thai tea or was it just watered down with too much milk? I prefer driving a little further from work to either Thai Spice Express or Thai Cottage for tasty Thai tea with no ice for only $2.95. 4th Visit: Because I am trying hard not to give them 1 or 2 stars, I forced myself to stop by once more, but this time to try their latte ($4) with Hazelnut syrup. Sadly, it tasted like flavored water. :( and on top of that, the place was a little hot inside. My coworker asked if I wanted to stay there to finish our drinks, but it was just too darn hot in there to be sipping hot drinks. I'm sorry. It has a sweet and simple ambiance. It took them a long time to bring out the iced jasmine tea and cappuccino (seriously long, our friends had already finsihed their drinks long) but we weren't in a hurry and we enjoyed playing go fish and shoots and ladders. The chairs are tiny so tiny Vietnamese butts are preferred but I don't think they're trying to discriminate- they have a few cushy chairs too. I went here on a friends suggestion and I have to say I really liked it. This was my first time trying Vietnamese coffee and it didn't disappoint. I got the ca phe sua frap, Vietnamese coffee mixed with condensed milk and blended with ice. It was a cool, refreshing treat for a hot Texas day! The inside of the place is very relaxed, with comfy chairs and tables for patrons. They have a lot of selection for beverages both standard coffee shop fair and Vietnamese varieties. They also offer boba, coffee jelly, which is an interesting addition. The prices are a little high for a cup of coffee, but then again this isn't a normal cup of coffee. I love vietnamese coffee and this is the only place I go to in the Clear Lake area. Who needs generic overpriced crappy Starbucks? This place is small and somewhat hidden behind Akimi Sushi but is well worth the drive. The two girls who run the place are awesome and always friendly. I alway go for the #2 or #4. Can't beat it. The place is small but put together nicely and never too busy. It makes a great study location or meet with friends. I generally walk up and order and have my coffee within a couple of minutes. You order it and she goes right to the back and makes it. And wait for it...they bring it out to you. Why wait at Starbucks for 10-15 minutes to get a subpar coffee or some sugary concoction of crap? I never understood the people waiting 15 cars deep in the drive thru. They knew me and my coffee only after a few times of being there. Once again, not a crappy coffee chain. Their coffee tastes great and will actually give me a caffeine buzz which is unheard for me seeing that my caffeine tolerance is through the roof from years of shift work and endless schooling. One day that will end...hopefully. The schooling part. Not the coffee. I can't say enough good things about this place. I haven't had anything but their coffee but friends have said the Fraps are pretty amazing as well. I havent tested their food either but Im generally full of Pho from Oriental Gourmet Express next door. Two birds with one stone right? People complain about the prices but they are no different than what you would pay at Starbucks yet you get peace, less hassle, and much better coffee. To me it's worth that alone. I'd much rather support the community than the Walmart of coffee houses. Ugh Walmart. I won't even start there. I wish I would have found this place sooner. Ca Phe Phin delivers great Vietnamese coffee although slightly pricey. The ambience is actually really nice. It's small and quiet with free wi-fi; a great place to study or work outside of the house! The drinks are priced a bit high but the ones I've had are really good! The Vietnamese coffee is always very strong and very sweet, just as it should be. The Thai tea frappe is a little icy but tastes delicious. They also serve ice cream which was good. I want to try their croissant sandwiches at some point... The service is friendly, if meek. The girls in there always match the whole place - small, Asian, and super quiet haha. They're really nice! One thing that does irk me though is that as a coffee shop, they don't open until pretty late on weekends - noon! It's not on my way during the week but I would go on weekends, if it were open. Nice study spot with great cafe sua da and cafe den. Haven't ordered any other drink and I don't plan on it. The cafe den was full bodied, robust and slightly sweet but the cafe sua da is the guilty pleasure that keeps me coming back for more. The inside is cozy, available wifi, wall outlets limited, and the atmosphere is fairly quiet depending on the crowd. They also have some covered tables and chairs outside. Downfall, inconvenient hours of operation. Doesn't open early enough for my morning fix and doesn't say open late enough for my after hour study sessions. read more

A gem. I love how different this coffee shop is from typical coffee shops you find. It feels similar to the many coffee shops I went to while in Vietnam (although not multi-storied). The crowd is varied. Sometimes there is no one else besides you (the person manning the front goes to the back where they make the drinks until they hear the door open) and you can sip slowly + peacefully on your ca phe sua nong (highly recommended, sort of off the menu item that I asked if they had and they said yes) while listening to the acoustic soundtrack playing. Other times there can be a rush as people/groups start coming in and talking with each other - it can be a bit loud then. I've gotten the ca phe sua nong (less sweet - I normally enjoy a nice aeropress without anything added). Would make the drink hotter if possible. read more

I tried it once and from that experience it was "A-OK" which is the designation for 3 stars on here. The thai tea that I had was very good but my boyfriend did not like his smoothie much. Because it is kind of expensive we are not completely sold yet but will try it one more time and try the normal coffee and see how it goes. I will say that it is nice to drink out of real glass or ceramic cups/glasses. Not too often I buy coffee and it isn't in something foam or plastic / paper and it's just not as enjoyable or nice. The place is tiny inside and fit for if you are spending time ALONE and not with others. The two people who were together had to take up 2 (out of the 4) tables available. I'm a little confused because it is so small and it seems like they want you to hang out there to drink your drink but at the same time the place isn't very comfortable. The music should be a little louder I think to drown out talking because otherwise it is just awkward because everyone can hear you (all 10 people). Well I guess that brings me back to my point at the beginning - this is a place you go alone to have a drink and maybe organize some things from work or school. WOW! Amazing place tucked off to the side of Nasa Parkway. A little hard to find at first, but boy am I glad I found it. The interior had a neat design. Very calm environment with interesting decorations. Felt very homey. The girl that worked at the front was very nice and explained all the different types of teas and coffee available. She seemed to really know her stuff, asking what types of flavors I liked or didn't like and then making recommendations on drinks based on those preferences. I got a grapefruit fruit tea with tapioca and one of their traditional vietnamese coffees. MAN, was that grapefruit tea amazing! YUMMO. Probably the best grapefruit tea I've ever had in my life. It really tastes like grapefruit, had this remarkable freshness to it that gave me a refreshing satisfaction with each sip. It was also at the perfect level of sweetness, unlike some other "fruit teas" you can get at other places that will increase your risk of developing diabetes with each drink. I can taste it now just thinking about it. The tapioca was a little too soft for my liking, but maybe some others like it that way. The coffee was also very good and unique. Honestly, I've never had coffee anything like the coffee I had at Ca Phe Phin. Good job, guys. The only thing about the place is that there is not much sitting room. So for those wanting to go there to study, there may not be that much space. There's a lot of "bar" type sitting space against the walls and windows. If you're one of those people that like to spread your stuff out, then you'd probably do best getting a drink to-go and going home to study.
