Great service and very fair price! I brought my 18-foot Class B camper van (Ram ProMaster) here for a smog check, and the price was very reasonable compared to other places that quoted much higher. The staff was friendly, professional, and the whole process was quick and smooth. It's not always easy to find a shop willing to do smog checks for camper vans, but they handled it with no problem. I really appreciate their honesty and efficiency. Highly recommend this place if you need a smog check in the area!

My friend had a smog check that was due and found this spot looking up Yelp. They are friendly and quick smog check spot located next to and connected to a gas station. My friend had called in and was told to come in as walk-in and no appointment was needed. It was early afternoon and not busy so the smog check was done quick with friendly customer service staff. Smog check was passed with no issues. Will recommend to my friends and come here next time. Again, really friendly and fast smog service in town. I've gone here for my last 2 smog checks, both times I've been in and out within 25 minutes, even with multiple cars in front of mine. The employees are always very nice and helpful (they offered the coupons even before I mentioned it). Today there was only 1 guy working when I got there, and he was on top of everything ... Checking in, paperwork, payment, smog test, check out, and as always, everything was done quickly. I definitely recommend getting your smog check done here. read more

If you have to get a smog, this is where to go. Super easy, fast, and efficient. Make sure to check out their coupons online to save $$$. I found out about the coupons through the business themselves. My smog didn't pass the first time, and they give you a free retest within 20 days of your first test. Awesome! read more

The actual smog check was fine, but don't trust the older mechanic's advice on what needs to be fixed if you don't pass. Based on the code he got on the diagnostic machine, he told me I needed to get my rear 02 sensor replaced. After $250 in parts and labor, as well 100 miles of driving around trying to get it to clear, it still didn't pass. When I told him that on the online forums people said that code corresponded with a different sensor, he doubled down and insisted that I had just bought the wrong brand for the part. I wasn't about to spend another $250 on wrong parts, so I decided to trust the forums, ordered the part for the other sensor online and got my mechanic to install it. Sure enough, after driving for another 40 miles, the code cleared. Because this whole process took more than the 20 days they give you for the "free" retest, the younger mechanic honored my request for a week extension. However, they still charge $10 when you finally pass, because when you fail the first time, they give you a reduced rate. Last thing, when I pointed out to the older mechanic that his over confidence had cost me an unnecessary $250, he became highly defensive and said that no one had ever complained about his advice before, that he used to work on my brand of car, and that $250 is cheap compared to other people's cars when they have to get their 02 sensors replaced. (Easy to say when it's not your money). I tried to be polite and acknowledged that he was trying to help, but encouraged him to have some humility and not mislead people when he isn't 100% certain about an issue, especially after I presented some evidence to him that he was wrong the first time. He didn't want to hear it and just kept rambling about me being ungrateful for the 1 week extension to the point that the younger mechanic stepped in to stop him. Moral of the story: 1) Do your own research before you spend money on unnecessary parts 2) I'll be finding another location next time I need to get smogged read more

We own a 20 year old vehicle which needs the Star Smog certification. The place we used to go to on Redondo Ave closed down. We selected CA Express Smog based upon the excellent reviews. We were happy to see that CA Express Smog was the place on Redondo and moved to its current location for more space, parking, ease of getting in and out. The service is excellent and very friendly! Great place to go to get your required SMOG test done, if you live near downtown LBC. Like getting…read moredocuments notarized, the process is heavily regulated by the state, but unlike a notary, it looks like a SMOG testing center can charge what they want. So the $40 out the door (including the mandatory $8.25 fee for the certificate) is a great price. I actually found a coupon from smogtips.com for $29.95 for this space, but once you add in the extras, it came out the same...so the tech didn't even take it. The $40 is listed clearly, and it seems like it would be the same for minivans and small SUVs as well (other places seem to have extra surcharges for that). Like others said, it's easy to drive in if you are next, but if somebody is getting tested, you would need to drive into the auto repair shop driveway right after and walk back to the garage to get in line. You can only enter going South on Long Beach Blvd (since Long Beach Blvd is a divided road). There is a small waiting room with a TV showing a local station. Once our car got hooked up, it took about 15 minutes to complete. They take credit cards, and will give you a computerized Vehicle Inspection Report. Now I just need to wait for the electronic submission to be recorded at the DMV, so I can renew my registration on-line. Conclusion: the price is good, and quick once you get started. We'll come back to this place in 2 years.

My only complaint: they really need a better sign directing traffic - they have a big sign out in front, that points into their one-car garage, so if someone else is already getting a smog check (as was the case when I got there), it is completely non-obvious where to go. You actually turn into the following drive-way, which looks like it leads into a car-wash, and then park around the back of the building. Their sign out front really needs to tell people that. Once I figured out where I was going, though, super quick and easy.

This place is a ripoff!! They dont even hook your car up to their computer before the Asian man behind the Counter is charging you for what they did, (nothing!)The Asian dude with the glasses is untrained and thinks he knows more than he actually does which posses a troublesome issue when working on one's car. This was my experience with this place twice. If you have $50 to throw away, makes no difference to me use them but please beware of the scam they use. I normally go to a smog place in Anaheim but I now live here in Long Beach. I decided to try this place because it was close to where I live. I came early thinking there would be a line. Nope! No one was here. They are super nice, fast and efficient. There are 2 bays for cars as well. Some smaller places only have one. I would for sure recommend anyone to come here. Plus they have comparable prices (not overly expensive) and the best part is, they are open on Sunday's. So many other places close on Sunday's. Great place! read more

Trying Ca Express Smog for the first time. Found a coupon online. Super friendly service. One free retest if you don't pass. 15 days to repass and the super nice woman at the counter, part owner, told me that if I can't fix it in that time she would give me an extension. So nice and thoughtful, as life gets hectic and we can't often make deadlines. They are quick but If you don't want to wait here, there are a few places to eat or shop near by and a bar as well. I'm from out of state, so I wasn't terribly sure of the whole smog test procedure. They answered a lot of my questions over the phone, gave me a discount, and explained their pricing policy before I even got there. The place is clean and in a safe neighborhood, which was lot more appealing to me. Two bays meant that they are able to get the cars through faster, so my wait time was pretty good, considering that there were a few cars waiting ahead of me! read more

This is my second time using their services. I came two years ago and it was quick and easy. I'm back today and I was in and out within 15 min. The customer service is always top notch. I recommend this place for your smog check. Quick and easy. I drove up to the testing bay and before I got out of my car, the technician was there to help. Felipe was a nice guy and very professional. He tested the car while I waited in the adjoining waiting area. The whole process was about 10 minutes and the price was very competitive. read more

Omg great service and great deals . I was very please with everything. Even though my truck didnt pass they didnt charge me the $8.25 tax fee. They said once I fix the problem come back for a retest for free then pay the tax fee. Very impressed only pay $44 due to writing a review they take additional $5 off. How cool is that?? read more

Staff is very friendly and professional with a smile! Customer service is great! Went to get my Smog Check here without an appointment. I came in the afternoon and there was no wait.
