The "Yellow" store has everything you need and is close by and convenient. The proprietors are very friendly and helpful.

Even have coffee products for $1 and working internet. So Betty downgraded it to 3*'s because something was fishy in the fish department. What's next? A meeting in the meat department? Ok Betty, I am just kidding around. It is a great store!!! Prices are average but everything else is 5*'s!!!

They will "go in the back" to get items for you if none are on the shelves. I noticed many items are now Bowl and Basket. Most ShopRite store brands will not list the country of origin....just distributed by Shoprite. The issue I have is with the Fish Department. If I ask one particular worker for 5 pieces of fish (usually about .75 pounds), that worker grabs a handful of fish and the weight is over 1.3 or 1.4 pounds. So I have to ask him to do my order over and remove pieces. When we shop in the morning he is usually cleaning the display or moving the price signs around even if there is a line of customers waiting to order. On more than one occasion I noticed that he did not change his gloves when picking up fish....so he is touching items all over the display wearing gloves and keeping the same gloves on to handle fish and seafood. Now we wash fish we buy from Shoprite before cooking it. Another time I picked up a pre-packaged "cod" that found in the display case for customers who don't want to wait to order. The date on every prepacked fish was expired by one or two days. I flagged the same Fish Department worker who immediately removed all items the case and went into the back. 1.CHECK ALL EXPIRATION DATES ON CANS, PRODUCE, BOXED ITEMS, DAIRY. 2. Be sure to check your receipt before exiting the store. It seems as if every week there is an issue with their prices. Several items are not properly shelved or the digital/ member prices are not calculated properly. My routine is to go to Customer Service each week with my receipt of overpriced item(s) and get a free item or the item is properly credited. This included alerting the Store Manager about a discounted item in the circular that was NOT even entered into their system. This meant that customers who purchased this item before us (it was day 2 of the sale) were overcharged for that item.

This review is an emotional outpouring…read more Stew Leonard's (SL) has been a part of my life for 55 years. I first came to this store soon after it opened, when it was much smaller and the only SL store. I now live a few hours away from any of the stores, but 2 SL shopping bags are among those my family uses regularly. I still go here and to other SLs when it's opportune, and the close relationship between SL and my family culminated when, upon his passing, SL SR. was placed a few strides away from my parents at Willowbrook Cemetery (rated 5). Over the years our family developed a close personal connection with the store. My mother became good friends with the head chef there (the prepared foods are excellent--I still always get the ambrosia salad when I'm there!). Sorry I don't recall his name. He was there from at least the mid 90s to the early 2000s. As my mother grew older we started having increasing numbers of SL items as side dishes at our holiday meals. In 2001 when she died we had SL provide the whole Thanksgiving dinner. I recall going in and speaking to the head chef, informing him of my mother's passing. He said he had wondered what had happened to her and missed her. The connection between our family and the store grew with my wife and kids. When we got engaged I got my wife's parents a SL gift basket, complete with Elsa the cheese cow. We would all visit this store and some of the others while traveling, enjoying the ice cream on site and bringing non-perishables back home, as well as apple cider in season--we'd bring the coolers for that. I don't know if my mother ever met either the Senior or Junior proprietor. I won't say I 'met' either of them, but I did encounter them both together once. There were no intros, and it was brief and terse. It was early summer 1979 or '80; like many college students, I thought SL would be a good summer 'gig'. I went to apply and found no parking spaces, but saw another parking lot across the street. I parked there and two men, one old one young, both dressed business formal, went walking past. The older one asked why I was parking there. I noticed the SL employee-only sign only then; I said I was going to apply for a job. He insisted there were none available. I started to say I would like to just leave an application, but he cut me off, saying again "there are no jobs!" [Please continue reading in the review space for the Stew Leonard's store in Danbury. This is not my first time using this service, and I have never had issues before, which makes this failure even more unacceptable. Poor customer service deserves to be called out, and this is a blatant example of it. My order was canceled with absolutely no notification--no email, no text, no explanation. I was left waiting for an order that had already been canceled without my knowledge. This is completely unacceptable and reflects a serious breakdown in Stop & Shop's customer service. Why offer a service you clearly cannot manage or guarantee? Had I not called to follow up myself, I would have been left in limbo indefinitely. There should be a basic system in place to notify customers of any order delay or cancellation, along with a reason. From a technical standpoint, this is not difficult--you already have customer contact information, including email and phone numbers. To make matters worse, after this failure on your end, I was forced to resubmit the order, make an additional payment, and now wait 7-10 business days for a refund or credit on the canceled order. This is negligent, unprofessional, and an unacceptable way to conduct business. If zero stars were an option, that is what this experience deserves.
