This is one of my favorite store for groceries and even recommended many people to come. Unfortunately what happened today i was so mad, i ran into a very very rude employee. When i try to use the restroom, it was located all the way back of the store. The door was shut so i tried to open it and realized it's locked, that means someone is in there so of course i wait...... Then a woman from the restroom opened the door (she's one employee) and yell at me said "you know i just got in here??" She was very rude and i explained to her there's no sign knowing someone is using it, it's normal that i try to open it because i DIDN'T Know anyone is inside!! She slam back the door ... .... Then when she's done she came out still telling me she just got here and alot of cleaning people make it stings whatever, and i so tell her she should put a sign and I'm not the one making it dirty. She was just so rude and i donno why i get yelleit when i just trying to use the store restroom. She was one cashier i found out. She stared at me later and i just check out on other line and didn't wanna deal with her attitude. I have been shopping here for years and this is most unpleasant experience to be treated in this store. (The guys here are nicer those who's stocking, they are helpful) in general those cashiers are not nice. Why would you yell at customers randomly??? Very disappointed when they do not follow government rules. They are supposed to round the penny but they always give you less saying the government stop making penny but when i remind them this time so all of sudden the cashier go inside and bring a roll of penny and give me exact change. What a nice discovery this afternoon. We love Indian food and this store has it all. The produce looked great, lots of frozen options and all the stuff you need for home cooked meals. We picked up some paneer and jasmine rice today, but will be back to fill up our shopping cart. Prices seemed really good. My all time go to place for groceries in town. I've been to quite a few Patel brothers around the country and they always have a good variety of vegetables and groceries (the kind of ones you don't find in all other stores). They are very organized to find what you need and move quickly. The also have a great variety of Indian hand made snacks and sweets. However, I don't give them a 5-star as I had to stop at a different store to pick up meat all the time. I highly encourage them to add a meat section to cater to customers like me!! read more

Why haven't I come to Patel Brothers before?! I had a craving for sev and knew this market wouldn't disappoint. Although this particular flavor/ brand was not super authentic like the one I've had from India, it fills the craving. This store was organized and very clean. One of best place for Indian Grocery store in Norwalk.. you name it.. we get it.. starting with vegetables, Desi snacks, mixtures, sweets, milk sweets and you name it all. Every time you visit Patels in Norwalk is always a pleasant experience. Customer friendly and staff are very helpful and kind hearted. I would like to say special thanks to Maggi Charles. Maggie's customer handling skills are simply outstanding. She always goes above and beyond to keep customers happy. Attitude - Maggie has great attitude towards customers request. Whenever customer struggles to find their item in the store, Maggie always there to come in person and find that item for you. I came to this place few days ago and was pretty surprised at how packed it was! They had everything you would want in a desi grocery store: from all the Chanas/daals to fresh vegetables to frozen foods! The only thing I couldn't find were frozen palak-paneer samosas! Maybe they should get those there. Besides that I was pretty satisfied by this store and would definitely be returning to get more stuff later! read more

The produce is extensive; you will see women in saris getting fresh curry leaves, Fresh Fenugreek, fresh Tumeric, A wide variety of fresh chilies and other vegetables you would not see elsewhere. they always have fresh coriander no matter what the season is! Great prices on red onions and shallots, though the quality may not be up to your standard! An extensive frozen food case offers pre-made Indian foods as well as frozen panneer. Love LOVE, love this market! Used to be much cheaper when they first opened their Norwalk location but still pretty decent with their pricing. You can find all sorts of dried beans and any middle eastern spice as well as your most ethnic vegetables and fruits from the Asian contingency. Love rice? This place has them all as well as many different types of cooking/baking flours and oils. They not only have fresh produce but also frozen foods that are very good and nicely priced...frozen samosas and frozen coconut strips and great canned pickled eggplant relish?? The checkout associate was very rude and kept throwing my groceries at checkout. It was unbelievable and when I got home a couple of the packages had ripped! Also they never help you while you are trying to bag your groceries. I once had 2 associates stand staring with long suffering look while I was multitasking with packing and paying . Also the isles are cramped and people and associates do not respect your personal space and are bumping into you . Great prices, helpful staff, decent variety. But you need to be careful when checking out. I bought some frozen fish and the cashier charged $8.99/lb because she didn't know what they were. Only when I spotted the checkout list I asked about it. She took time to check with a colleague and started adjusting the price to $5.99/lb and then changes it again to its correct price of $4.49/lbs (yes some fish is well priced). During these Covid days, Patel's does limit total number of customers, but it is still quite congested inside. I've loved this market since it opened! My dad and I love coming here for their large variety of inexpensive spices. You can get 1/2 pound of turmeric for 99 cents! We also enjoy their exotic produce as well. They have great prices that can't be beat. In the past I've bought henna paste in convenient plastic cones here as well. Excellent market! read more

Like the A Dong of Indian food. That's a good thing - it's an Indian grocery superstore. We stopped into Patel Brothers while visiting my hometown for the holidays (whatup Norwalk). As my boyfriend makes a mean curry, he was thrilled to pick up some hard-to-find ingredients. After perusing the store, which was much larger than expected, we left with some fresh curry leaves, white turmeric (which we later pickled) and some exciting produce (Thai eggplant, jackfruit, bitter melon) that's much harder to find up in our neck of the woods. I'm heading back to Norwalk this weekend and I'm excited to stop in and stock up! read more

5 Star review w/o a doubt. I don't want to hype this spot up too much, but it is the place to go for affordable Indian groceries and more. I'm broke as a joke right now, so I'll be dining in and cooking on the cheap. Why drop major coin at Coromandel when you can just make the meals yourself for pennies on the dollar? I mean, it can't be *that* hard to cook Indian entrees, right? Are you with me? Off the bat, we picked up a giant bag of Basmati rice, plenty of seasonings, frozen paneer cubes that are delicious. And of course, samosas. Don't forget, they sell mango lassis for like 2 bucks. The Indian restaurants will just double the price on those bad boys. I even got some Indian mango ice cream or sherbet....I don't know, we haven't tried it yet. I'll bet it's good. EDIT: It's REALLY good. Damn. i love indian food and patel brothers has it all. their naan is delish and i love the sauce they have for butter chicken. it's all there so i don't have to go and cook it myself... just put it in a pan and enjoy when it's cooked :) their ginger candies are amazing and i totally recommend, but if you aren't into ginger probs don't try it. it can be strong for some people. read more

Wow! I'm really impressed. After searching for three weeks to find some hard to source items for my cooking projects, I found all that I needed at Patel's. Mustard oil - couldn't find it anywhere but Patel's had several brands to choose from. Such a wide selection of spices including my beloved Black Cardamom. Their large selection of spices (whole and ground) is impressive and far cheaper than at the local grocers or specialty shops. There were interesting fresh fruits and veggies that are typically really hard to find such as fresh banana blossoms fresh whole turmeric roots and fresh curry leaves. The staff were very helpful. I was regular customer of Patel Brother and regular buying Chandan Mouth Freshner . But two weeks a ago I brought it is bad or spoil .When I went back to return they refuse to return . First I want to handover this whole bottle to local Heath Department for investigation but I just ignore it and dump whole purchase of Chandan Mouth freshner front of owner. Patel Brothers is a welcome addition to shopping for South Asian foods in Fairfield County. In addition to reasonably priced spices, they have an excellent selection of legumes and rice. The produce here is also by and large cheaper than the grocery chains--like Viva Grande in New Rochelle; although it's not as plentiful, I find it has a slightly longer life. Shopping here is a lot more convenient than driving down to Jackson Heights, although I prefer the products in Queens. read more
