Yes, the prices might be slightly higher than Whole Foods, but that's really beside the point, you're not just buying groceries, you're investing in a lifestyle. Where else can you stroll the aisles with a free coffee in hand, pretending you came in for "just one thing," while slowly filling your cart with items you didn't know existed but now absolutely need. And the rotisserie chicken might be the best financial decision in the whole store. Somehow it's the one thing that feels like a bargain while everything else gently reminds you that quality comes at a price. Having visited many markets in Fairfield County over the years, I was astonished to just discover this hidden gem. Slightly off the beaten path, I surmise it is well known to Darien residents. The layout is somewhat unusual -- you enter into the dairy aisle, with produce at the other end of the building. Make sure you try the prepared foods -- the chicken scarpariello meatballs are our favorite item so far. Soups were excellent -- chicken matzo ball, sausage gumbo and carrots ginger all pleased. Pulled pork was savory but could have used some sauce. At Easter they were sampling delicious ham and scalloped potatoes. Fresh meats appeared to be of high quality, I can vouch for the hamburger patties. The fish counter is small and is not attended by a fishmonger. I've only had free samples of the baked goods so far, but they look great. Produce is solid, but as expensive as you would expect from a gourmet market in Darien. Service from the counter folks and check out was uniformly excellent. read more

The vibe in this store is sitcom worthy. Wealthy older folks who enjoy watching you contort yourself to get around their basket as they lift not a single muscle to get out of the way. First time at this market and ordered cupcakes for a kids birthday. These were sooooo good! Real gourmet style- idk what the frosting was but we were all raving about it. Travelling a long distance, I work in the area and Palmer's Market is my choice for prepared meals. I have many favorites from their salad counter, one is the Mezze Snack Pack. Other alternatives they offer include ingredients and tastes from around the world, such as a Thai noodle salad, plus they have prepared sandwiches and wraps. Their produce is fresh, their bakery items are scrumptious and there is no wait at the checkout counter where I have been greeted with friendly staff. Palmer Family members may be present and are most helpful and conversant. Palmers Market sets a high bar for quality food and healthy choices for shoppers. read more

Okay. I know it's pricey. Let's get that out there before I get into the details. It's also why I hold back a star. If you want specialty foods or want to try a brand new product every time you go to a grocery store, this is totally the place to go shopping. You want produce or meat or basics and you're looking to save some money? Head elsewhere unless you're buying stuff on sale. Their prepared foods are fantastic. I recommend the curry chicken salad, their soup bar, and the exhaustive selection of prepackaged cooked meals in the back. My fav is the Spa Salad and the chicken quesadilla is a pretty good meal deal if you're looking for something not too expensive. The rotisserie chicken is really good. REALLY good. But for $10 it's definitely smaller than the ones you can get at other supermarkets/wholesale clubs. It's all natural no GMO and no hormones so that might be why it's not enormous and the size of a small dog. They also have a specialty bakery that does a great job on custom cakes for special events. We've ordered several times and it's always been very good. They usually have these oversized cookies that are amazing though. Ya gotta try 'em. My fav is the chocolate chunk. My 3yo loves pushing around the mini shopping carts and sometimes they have lollipops at checkout for the kiddos. All around good experience. read more

We used Palmer's Catering twice this month -- once for my father's 85th and once for a memorial with 100 guests. Both experiences were top notch and we'd use them again in a heartbeat. Christina, the manager, was gracious and helpful every step of the way. The waiters were prompt and professional. The food displays were beautiful and the food was delicious. They were kind enough to change out croutons for fresh bread for us and made other similar small changes without hesitation. The chef was flexible. The produce and meats and cheeses were farm fresh. So yea they're located in a supermarket BUT theyre rated highly on theknot.com for a reason! We had them do my baby shower cake this past wknd and I came up with a design which they executed really well and made beautiful cupcakes. We had carrot cake, red velvet with cream cheese frosting and vanilla with chocolate and all flavors were delicious! The cakes were also moist! Palmers is a great market always the products you expect from a supermarket but also unique items you won't find everywhere. They have a excellent prepared food selection with a few staples your always happy to see in the case ( Thai Flank Steak ... Yumm...) the bakery had an entire redo a few years ago and the def worth it. They offer everything from homemade baked muffins to custom wedding cakes. they also have a gift selection and home goods , the flowers are to die for. They answered their phones, forwarded me to the person I needed to speak with, and subsequently called me back in a timely manner. They were so friendly, and even though this type of local delivery wasn't something they normally do, they were able to make it happen for me in less than 4 hours! And the cookies were DELICIOUS!
