They have sandwiches and salads too. Got 2 sandwiches - French beef and pastrami. They were both pretty good. Big enough to share, depending on how hungry you are. Surprisingly I liked the French beef, which is rare, as in raw. You can see the redness. That tasted quite good. The pastrami was good but a bit saltier than I would like. Great place to grab a meal, besides raw meats. They have a public outdoor plaza nearby with tables and chairs that you can sit at and eat. We were walking around and decided to stop in here to check it out. It was very nice in there and the staff are super friendly and helpful! We picked up a few items: - breakfast sausages - homemade dog food - chocolate chip cookies They were all very good! We were shocked that they had homemade dog food - which is cooked not raw. As our little furry one does eat homemade cooked food we decided to get him to try. He liked it! Definitely a good alternative for us when we don't have food for him. I called the day before Easter when they were insanely busy. The young man who answered couldn't have been nicer and more professional. I bought 10 lamb chops. I have never had a more delicious dinner EVER including in any restaurant in NYC. I cast-iron-pan-seared them and used a shallot, lemon, garlic reduction with white wine to pour over just before serving. They melted in our mouths. Thanks Darien Butcher Shop! I just moved to the area and was in Darien to check out the coffee shop Neat. There is limited street parking but there is a lot behind the butcher shop for free parking. I decided to check out this shop so I know if it's worth coming to next time. They carry a lot of Prime beef and carry almost every cut and able to get anything you need. Everything meat they carry is quality meat. They said they carry other kinds of meat than beef, pork and chicken. I also like that they will custom cut anything. I'm always looking for LA Kalbi meat...it's a lot more than other place but I think it's prime. I can't wait to get some steaks. The prime makes a big difference and worth the extra bucks...still cheaper than eating at Ocean Prime. While I was there they are so nice and very helpful and educational of all their products. They let me they their beef jerky...it was teriyaki style...it was great...especially from someone that knows how to marinate LA kalbi which uses teriyaki sauce. I'm going to get some next time...it's an easy meal on the run. The jerky was thick and meaty and not too chewy. I purchased the cream corn that they make and he gave me sausage to try...sweet and spicy. So I made it a meal with some pasta. The cream corn was good...sweet. Even my daughter ate it. I sautéed the sausage and mixed with pasta with olive oil. Then poured some cream corn in my pasta...it was a great addition! Next time I'm gonna make cheese corn with it. They even make lunches...I'm planning maybe a once a week trip to this butcher shop. read more

I just made a total pig of myself, eating an entire Italian Beef sandwich on ciabatta. I'm not a big meat eater, but I have a new favorite sandwich place in southern CT! That sandwich was obscenely wonderful, with a huge amount of tender sliced beef, fresh mozzarella layered in, and some slightly hot red peppers to give it life. There was more in there, but it was all melded together so well, that I'm not sure what. The ciabatta was excellent, and caught all of the wonderful juices. I can't believe I came out of the encounter clean (I gobbled it in the car). I'll be trying everything on that take-out menu. This review is for THE CHARLES. The butcher shop turns into a restaurant at night and goes by this name. I went into this dining experience expecting a top notch dinner and couldn't have come out more disappointed. Upon making the reservation we were told to arrive on time and that there was a 10 minute grace period. We even had to put down a credit card to make the reservation. Despite this, our table was not ready when we arrived on time at 6:30. We had to stand at the door as a table was rolled out and set. Same for 4 additional guests who arrived behind us. Also, the place was filthy. Fingerprints all over the meat display cases and glass doors. No candlelight. No music. No ambiance. Dinner in a dirty butcher shop is what it was. We had to ask for an ice bucket for our bottle of champagne, had to open the bottle ourselves and pour all drinks ourselves. (A corkage fee is included in the bill) The food was disgusting and cold. Awful from beginning to end and it wasn't cheap. $200/per person prix fixe menu! The fact that a NY strip steak isn't cooked properly in a butcher shop is absurd. Everything lacked seasoning. Also the chef was taking out the trash in the middle of the dinner course and then left the restaurant as dessert was being served. He was clearly in a rush to get out of there and you could taste it in the food. It's disrespectful to have this experience and pay a premium. I don't mind spending this money but I expect a good experience and value in return. Save yourself the money, time and aggravation. It's not even close to being worth it. I'm taking this review public because I initially expressed these concerns in an email to the chef/owner but he didn't even care enough to answer. read more

Stopped in for their egg and cheese sandwich special this past Saturday. It was delicious! Staff were friendly and very a sweet to my active 2 year old! We picked up four burger patties, and grilled them up. The meat was delicious and super fresh. I hope they offer a few grass fed beef options in the future. We Will definitely be back!! read more

Last week I had a 30th birthday party for my wife at the Darien Butcher Shop and the results were amazing! I could not have been more impressed with the organization and professionalism of the staff. All of the food was so out of this world that it's hard to pick any favorites but if I had to pick one - I'd say the Lamb Gyro Sliders or the Buffalo Veal Sweetbreads. Both were excellent and definitely crowd pleasers. I would recommend having a party at the Darien Butcher Shop for your next big get-together. They easily accommodated our 50-person party, and they cleaned up everything afterwards; it could not have been easier. Go there for a sandwich, a delicious piece of meat or sides or throw a party there. Just go to the Darien Butcher Shop! I was in this weekend for the first time. I hate to write this but I really I don't understand what's happening here. Yes, some of the meat was apparently "prime" but the butcher could tell me very little about where it was coming from, feed, antibiotics, gmos, etc. Sorry guys, but I checked and Debragga and Lafreida are not farms...these are distributors and their meat is from feedlots. I can't be the only one who recognizes that prime doesn't really mean anything. They apparently carry grassfed beef from a farm called Rosenkrans in NY. I'm buying for my kids, so I checked it out. Sorry, per the owner Jeff, they are NOT grassfed...those animals eat corn...in a barn. On a positive note, the prepared foods looked pretty good and appeared to be made in house. read more

The owner Peter is an excellent addition to the Darien food scene. They have steaks and sides. They go out of their way to try and please you and help you plan an excellent meal.
