I messaged Holly because I couldn't make 8/31 and she told me she would cancel my appointment and to let her know if I needed to reschedule. Fast forward to 9/6, I was charged $85 for not cancelling the 9/5 appointment. This is the appointment I rescheduled through the Style Seat application. I messaged Holly and she pretty much told me too bad, I'm still taking your money! She claimed I didn't cancel the 9/5 appointment. Which I did. BUT if I didn't, common sense would be, when I messaged her to cancel 8/31...and she saw that prior to booking that appointment, I booked the 9/5 one, she would have reached out because it's most likely an error. But she "is not a mind reader."

I'm someone who values spending money on services, because I believe you tend to get what you pay for, but I spent over $400 on a balayage service that I now have to go somewhere else to have fixed. For future customer's sake, I hope this is a one off experience. Going in to my appointment I wasn't too picky with my service as long as I had added dimension to my hair, was in the range of browns, and it was relatively natural looking. I, naively, had no idea I could end up with such badly botched and mismatched hair from a place with such high reviews. I attempted to contact my stylist after the first recolor to address the issue of obvious miscoloring (see photo) and, after a week of waiting, did not receive a response. After sending an email to Austin Curls I was only offered to be seen/put in contact with the same stylist that messed my hair up twice and ignored my message. I understand Austin Curls operates as a collective, but I definitely didn't feel like I had support in resolving this issue outside of seeking help elsewhere. *In response to the reply from Austin Curls, I did not want my hair light and actually ended up with a color much lighter than I asked for. The problem is not from being disappointed with the lightness. My hair is discolored from the stylist darkening one part of my hair after messing up the balayage and not matching the rest of my hair. I have since seen a different stylist who fixed my coloring, breaking up the chunks and giving me the subtle dimension I wanted within 2 hours, no extra bleaching needed! What I wanted was easily achievable and this experience would've been a lot smoother if Austin Curls was capable of providing it.

After nearly five hours in the salon, the service was completed and I immediately raised concerns regarding the harsh lines, visible demarcation, and lack of blending between my natural color and the highlighted sections. I also asked whether additional blending, such as a root melt, would help soften the result. Rather than discussing those concerns, there seemed to be confusion about what I was seeing, so I ultimately asked that photos be taken so we could review the result together. The attached straight-hair photos were taken at that time, before I left the salon. That's when "one" area was acknowledged and a few lowlights were added. However, the broader concerns regarding the harsh lines, visible demarcation, and lack of blending throughout the rest of my hair were largely dismissed. I was ultimately told the result was "not that bad" and that I might simply need time to adjust to having highlights. That response is ultimately why I did not return for corrective work. Had my concerns been acknowledged, I would have been open to working toward a solution. Instead, I left questioning how the issues could be corrected when they were not being recognized in the first place. The attached wavy-hair photos were taken two weeks later. By that point, the harsh lines, visible demarcation, and lack of blending were even more noticeable, leaving me embarrassed and self-conscious about my hair. I sought a second opinion from another salon, where the stylist immediately saw the same issues I had raised during my appointment. They explained that significant corrective color work would be required, expressed sympathy for the experience, and were unable to understand how I had left the salon with a result like this. The correction required additional highlights, lowlights, toning, and blending to soften the harsh lines and create a more natural result. Initial service - $300 Corrective service - $462.50 Total spent for an outcome that was not my initial goal - $762.50 Attempts to contact the salon owner through both Instagram and the salon's website gmail received no response.

The stylist seemed unaware that cowlicks can be trained/ styled and wouldn't work against my cowlick like I asked. I also showed this Pinterest photo and she told me I couldn't get my bangs that thick. I'm going to attach the picture of what I wanted and a picture of my hair looking exactly like the example pic when it was cut somewhere else. I had to go and cut more at my house and I forgot to take a photo right before so I'm not going to post a current picture of my bangs as I don't feel that's fair, but I was so frustrated having to go back and cut that I just had to leave a review.
