I think this is a new location for Byblos, and it certainly seemed like a new place that's still trying to find its rhythm. Our first impression was from a less than enthusiastic hostess who took us to our table. She was wearing loosely fitting/loosely laced running shoes, and she made a combination of a shuffling and clip-clopping sound as she moved back and forth across the restaurant. Our server was very nice, and joked that we just missed a very busy rush. We ordered drinks ($5 Thursdays!) and a shrimp appetizer. The shrimp came out pretty quickly, and though the dish was tasty, the shrimp was pretty chewy - either overcooked or frozen. Our server said she'd bring some bread and apologized for not having the drinks yet. The bread showed up after we finished the appetizer, and again, an apology for not having our drinks yet. Around the time that the entrees arrived, my drink arrived. With an apology that my date's drink wasn't ready yet. It really was amazing how long it took my drink, and then more so, my date's drink to show up. BUT: The drinks were really, really good. We definitely made note of $5 Thursday on select cocktails. As it turns out, the drinks were the highlight of the meal. The drinks, late as they were, earned one of the two stars on this review. Okay, about the entrees: My date enjoyed her wrap, but my meal was about as disappointing as any I've had at a restaurant in quite some time. The beef shawarma really seemed like prepackaged, frozen meat. The clove/cinnamon/nutmeg flavor was fine, but boring. This was not at all your typical, tender, sliced-off-the-spit shawarma, with rich, aromatic flavors. It was chewy, and really seemed like frozen meat, stir-fried. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what it I felt like I was eating. The hummus and rice pilaf had an amazing lack of flavor. Nothing. Okay..well...the pilaf had a little sweetness to it, and it wasn't bad, it just was "barely there". The hummus tasted like cheap olive oil. It really wasn't worth eating, even though I was hungry. I just didn't feel like finishing this meal. I walked in starving, and walked out a little hungry. Our server seemed a little concerned that I had so much left on my plate but did not want a go box. Again, my date enjoyed her wrap, but also had no-flavor humus. Overall, the place looked new, and the service was just off - the timing of the food, and bread, and water refills, and of course, the bar, just felt like a new place that was still finding its way. But beyond the possible "growing pains" thing, the food itself was very unimpressive. Our final conclusion was that we should definitely come back, to the bar, for $5 Thursday. So this is probably the third or fourth time we have been here. The first time was an okay experience but mixed. The next couple of times were much better. Got drinks and they were great. Happy hour is before 6pm. This last time we got a shrimp and chicken kabob plate. Both were great. My partner especially liked the shrimp, so we ordered another shrimp kebab plate. Everything was so good this time. The manager even comped us another dessert to try since we like their desserts so much. The wait staff person was also great and nice. Altogether a good experience. It was such a shame because we came right when they opened, around 3PM--So it should have been fresh. The chicken had a weird rubbery texture. It just seemed like the chef did not put in any love into the food. The hummus was okay, but I have had better. Their style of hummus doesn't have that zesty freshness I was looking for. Shrimp & Beef Kabob Ughh, I really wanted to love this plate because it was served so beautifully. The Shrimp was pretty good. However, I was not a huge fan of how charred my beef and shrimp was. It gave this crunchy bitterness flavor to the dish that threw off the flavor of the food. The flavor of the beef was also pretty odd, it had like a strange chemical floral flavor to me--reminded me of how Fabuloso smells like. Pretty much inedible because I was so thrown off by the flavor. I knew rice was not fresh, as I had clumpy, dry rice bits mixed in my rice pilaf. ------------------------------------------- Atmosphere wise, this place is beautiful. Their outside patio would be perfect to get drinks or hang out with some company. My server was great! ------------------------------------------ I have been to several Mediterranean places around the area and this was probably the first time we left food on our plates. The Mediterranean food is top notch. Restaurant has a nice ambiance for date night. They have nice drink specials with craft cocktails and margaritas. Good wine selection. Past the Mediterranean menu they have some regular food options like steak, fish, and a burger that are really good. They have a giant exposed brick fire oven to cook the flat breads and fresh pitas. Really cool looking. Tonight I had the Mediterranean pasta with shrimp, awesome! I wanted to try the Alfredo pasta, so I took it to go, it was Amazing. It is my new to go pasta place. The noodles were Fresh and Al Dente. The owner usually visits some of the tables and is there to explain any of the food options. Went there while trying to be low carb. Ordered the gyro platter with cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. The veggies were almost better than the lamb. They were incredible if anybody was to ask. Our waitress w/her choker was an absolute gem. You can tell the owners and there because they check every table-and keep the kitchen informed. They also have a brick oven where they make and bake the fresh pita bread. My defenses were down and I had to try some. Excellent it was. I would recommend this place to ANYONE- a local or a tourist. We stopped in one evening, and we sat in the shaded patio area while we waited for a table. One group looked like they were dining outside since they had a dog with them, but there were no other outside diners. After being seated we were quickly seen, and our drink order was taken. There were some misses that night. The waiter recommended the fried feta cheese appetizer, and we added fried cauliflower. The cheese is fried in an egg roll wrapper- not expected but tasty. What fried food isn't? Well, turns out the fried cauliflower isn't. The fried cauliflower came out cold so who knows when it had been been fried. The waiter returned with fried cauliflower, possibly the same batch we had earlier. Our two entrees came with hummus but no pita bread. I've never been to a Mediterranean restaurant that served hummus without pita bread. So smear it on our other food we did. It was yummy so why let it go to waste? Lastly my husband's second margarita seemed to have been made by a totally different bartender. The first was delicious and prompted him to order a second. He took a couple sips of the second and had enough. Maybe these are growing pains with opening up. There are too many other options for good Mediterranean food out there so it'll be a while before we see if they work the issues out. read more

Our party of 3 dined at this location on a Friday night. It's located where the old Nacho Mama's used to be on Clearview in Elmwood. Walking up we eyed a small outdoor dining area that looked cute but opted to dine inside. The interior is nicely redone. The footprint of Nacho Mama's is there but the bar was upgraded and looked inviting so that's where we sat. There are a few high top tables in the corner so we parked there. Within a few minutes the bartender came over to us to get a drink order. I had a glass of wine and the guys drank margaritas. We got the feta cheese fingers and the fried calamari as appetizers. Both were delicious and I'd go back solely for those! Our entrees consisted of a burger and fries, the filet au poivre, bacon-wrapped shrimp, and shrimp Alfredo. Items were flavored nicely; the downside was that everything was lukewarm, not hot (hence, the docking of the one star.) Not being complainers, we opted not to say anything because like I said, the flavor was good. We ordered the key lime pie and some kind of cast iron chocolate cookie for dessert. I loved the presentation of the key lime pie- it wasn't your typical triangular pie slice which was refreshing. I thought it maybe could have used just a zip more key lime flavor but I still enjoyed it. The cast iron cookie thing was rich and decadent and yummy! Our server, Andrea, was a delight. She was personable, knowledgeable about the menu, and didn't rush us through our meal, which we appreciated because we hadn't seen my husband's brother since Christmas and were having a catch up dinner. Restrooms were clean as was the general appearance of the interior and exterior of the restaurant. Noise-level was fine; we were able to have conversation with no problem. It wasn't as busy as I'd thought it'd be for a Friday night but you could attribute that to lots of stuff- inflation restricting discretionary spending, people giving up dining out for Lent, etc. This was my first time dining at Byblos, and based off this experience I will return. My sister, niece and I had lunch here today and it was awesome. First, our waiter, Sterling, was warm and friendly. He answered all our questions and made excellent suggestions. We each ordered a different swarma plate, beef, chicken and gyros. The meats were tender and so full of flavor. My sister said the beef melted in her mouth. The hummus was excellent and the pita warm and tasty. The Brussel sprouts were some of the best I've ever eaten. Even the made-from-scatch Mash potatos were exceptional. I also really enjoyed my Lebanese iced tea. The rose and pine nut flavors were so refreshing. Overall, we were impressed and will definitely return! read more

Decided to try this place out since our beloved Zoe's Kitchen is being revamped to Cava. Really had a taste for lentil soup and hoped this would satisfy the appetite. Sadly, it didn't. The lentil soup had a funky smell, perhaps from the spinach added. It lacked flavor...or simply, salt. The baba ghanuj, too, lacked flavor...and/or salt. The chicken shawarma was ok. It was a very large portion and came with hummus and fattoush salad. The hummus didn't taste homemade but was edible and the salad was decent. While the staff are polite and the establishment is new to the area, the food was quite disappointing. Respectfully, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

I love anything Mediterranean, but unfortunately Byblos will not be added to that list. I was so excited when this restaurant recently opened in the Elmwood Shopping Center. The restaurant is beautiful and the menu looked promising. My party of 2 visited for dinner and the hostess was weird. We asked about sitting outside and she said we couldn't. The other hostess then said we could. It was very awkward, so we just sat inside. I started with the Pepper Pineapple Margarita. It wasn't good and tasted like a glass of pineapple juice. The Beef Shawarma Wrap was bland and the beef was of terrible quality. I could barely chew it. The other guest had the Beef and Chicken Kabobs. It was odd the the meat wasn't on sticks, so not sure what kind of kabobs those were. Again, the quality of the meat was terrible and could not be chewed. We had the Feta Cheese Fingers as an appetizer and they were really good. With that said, the appetizer menu actually looks good, so I would return and just try the appetizers. read more

Came in on Thursday for dinner. Sat at the bar and Heather was prefect. She was willing to custom make a drink for my sister who doesn't drink much. Her drink making skills were fabulous! I had the Pepper Pineapple Margarita. For the entree i got the Rack of Lamb. Divine! Cooked to a prefect med rare! The rice was good and so was the Med Hummus. My sister had the gyro shawarma. And cousin and the chicken wrap. Unfortunately it was undercooked and sent back. They took it off the bill and still let her order another entree. The vibe of the resturant was warm and fun. It does get loud from the crowd but its still enjoyable. I'm actually back here on Sat for dinner! read more

STAY FAR AWAY! My boyfriend ordered takeout for us last night and we were really looking forward to trying this Byblos location but the experience was less than desirable. When we arrived to pick up our food there was nobody at the front door to greet us or ask if we needed assistance, which was odd for a Saturday night. We actually stood there for a couple minutes before we were helped, and were slightly put off by the appearance of the hostess. She acted as though there were anywhere else she'd rather be. My boyfriend ordered the medium rare beef kabobs and I got the chicken kabobs. His beef was overcooked to well done, had a fishy taste, and for some reason had hummus all over one of his kabob, like it was taken from another plate and put into our takeout. Also neither of us ordered hummus. My chicken was raw. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until I was on my 2nd bite, and promptly forced myself to vomit so I didn't consume it. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I placed an order through this location for the first time today. Something I didn't know as the pita was only about 3" in diameter. (Absolutely not their fault) I had ordered 2 extra pita not knowing the combo shawarma does not come with pita. (Very strange, but again not their fault) But I only got one of the baby pita rounds that was ordered. Also I ordered taziki sauce which I did not receive. (Again very strange it doesn't normally come with beef shawarma by default) So be sure not to order from this location unless you go and pick it up from them. That way you can perform quality control for them and be assured you get all you pay for. I called the restaurant and they said there was nothing they can do unless I go and pick it up. I ordered delivery after a long days work. If I wanted to go up there and pick up what they forgot to include. And allow my food to get cold while doing so, what would be the purpose of having it delivered in the first place. Not a great first experience with this location to say the least. read more
