By The Bay Bistro in Osprey is located in a cute plaza just minutes from Venice and Nokomis. The interiors are very well thought out with a European feel, but also give a nod to coffee from various places around the world. They have very cozy indoor and outdoor seating, and friendly and engaging staff. The owner was present and happy to chat with us with helpful tips about visiting the area. You can tell she takes a lot of pride in her business and the quality of product they deliver. In addition to caffeinated beverages and bakery items, they have an impressive menu of sandwiches and lunch items. We kept things simple by ordering an iced cafe mocha, a dark roast coffee, and a chocolate croissant. You can tell they use high quality ingredients since the iced cafe mocha had chocolate flakes in them, but somehow managed to accent the beverage perfectly without making it too sweet. The chocolate croissant tasted absolutely delicious and had a wonderful chocolate filling inside unlike most traditional recipes...we both agreed it was great and tasty. The owner mentioned she gets her croissants from Europe and does the filling and final baking on premises to serve it hot. I'm not aware of any bakeries that go to all that trouble, but it makes for a high quality product. All in all, an excellent coffee and pastry experience at By The Bay Bistro...it's a place I hope to return to and would recommend to others visiting the Venice, Florida area. read more

Tucked away at m a shopping center right off Bay St and 41 is this cute little Bistro that serves lunch and dinner. Three of us stopped in today for lunch and we were not disappointed. Two sandwiches (Monaco and Roma) and a salad were ordered and everyone enjoyed their meal. The bread on the sandwiches was to die for, so fresh and tasty. We will most definitely be back. The breakfast menu also looked good too. read more

Had high hopes, place looked cute but the bagel i ordered tasted a bit weird and after a second bite unfortunately noticed it was moldy. Wish I smelled it before taking a bite because the smell was awful. Iced Latte was good but as you might imagine my appetite was gone. read more

By the Bay Bistro is a really cool and charming hidden gem of a coffee shop tucked away in plaza that doesn't seem to get too much traffic. It somehow manages to feel both modern and quaint at the same time and without being at all pretentious. The owner is very friendly! My wife and I stopped in for an iced chai latte and a pain au chocolat. Both really hit the spot. The pastry was so buttery and flaky with just the right amount of sweet. Wonderful place to spend leisurely sipping coffee and eating delicious pastries. The owners are kind and accommodating.

Cold brew is the smoothest I've had anywhere. Crosiants are airy and delicious. They also serve baguette sandwiches although I've not had any yet. Service is always excellent. It's a pleasant looking space with lots of information about the area. It's inside a shopping strip that doesn't look like it has food places in it so it's easy to miss on 41. If you are visiting or live here, it's definitely worth the trip. read more

What a hidden gem! I'm sure they rely on word of mouth because if you didn't know it was there, you'd miss it. Very small, table seating for 12 but they also have a couch area if you're looking to relax with a cup of coffee. Breakfast offers an assortment of freshly baked pastries and all sorts of coffee treats. We were there for lunch. I opted for the soup and half sandwich. Three great soups and around 10 sandwiches to choose from, tough choice. In the end it was butternut squash soup and turkey, brie and craisins on ciabatta. Fabulous! I love a cute coffee shop and if you do too then this is definitely a place you want to stop by! My chocolate croissant was imported from Belgium and tasted amazing. I also had a dark roast iced coffee with coffee ice cubes so it doesn't dilute ! They even have a table of imported goods from Italy etc. as well as breakfast sandwiches & lunch which I will have to try next time I come in. What a great find! This is one of those places I'm selfishly afraid to give a great review to, only because I don't want it to get so popular that I cannot get in! Delicious, fresh-made sandwiches and soup. My sister and I each had the Paris sandwich--brie, apricot preserve, arugula, on a fresh-baked baguette--and had a hard time choosing from the European inspired selection. Absolutely fabulous flavor! I also had a cup of the homemade carrot-ginger soup. It was to die for; well-balanced flavors, hot, with homemade croutons on the side. We were super tempted by the homemade pastries, and will definitely go back for that, but I settled on a freshly made, perfect cup of caffe au lait.
