A name from the past brought back memories of a time in my youth when I didn't truly appreciate restaurant dining. This time I really appreciate the times when I can share a meal of a great steak like at Buzz's Original Steak House. We were visiting Lanikai and Yelping to find a place to enjoy a meal. When I read the name "Buzz's Original Steak House" I felt a childhood memory drifting together of good times and fun food. Sure enough, those memories were of Onolicious Steak and seafood in a fun place. Our visit wasn't disappointing. Great service and delicious food is a great combination in making more happy memories. The steaks (Ribeye) were flavorful and tender. I had the shrimp scampi with noodles full of garlic. Although located far away from Honolulu, I would drive up here to create more memories and dine at Buzz's Original Steak House!!! read more

Nice atmosphere and wonderful staff. They have music between 3-6. That was fun. It added to the atmosphere and mood. Quite nice. Started with poke and it was traditional and good. We ordered steak and seafood. The steak temperature was perfect, with no flavor. Lacked seasoning etc. the fish was Monchong and that was fantastic. We have been coming to Buzz's Steakhouse for the past 8 years. It has fallen in service and food selection since Covid. The waitress pushed us to try the calamari steak appetizer. Everyone said it was real buttery and didn't really taste like calamari. It had a chicken fried steak taste and was really tough. The teriyaki chicken was still very good. The burgers were also good. We were sorry to see they no longer offer the Crab Louie or the open face crab sandwich. We had just come from riding UTVs at Kualoa Ranch, so we were starving. The Buzz's Original Mai Tai were still great. The downfall was my wife's wine. She ordered a Pinot and she got what tasted like a port wine. When my wife questioned the taste, the waitress went back and asked the bartender. The bartender said she knew what she poured and there was no mistake. She also said the manager was there, and she wasn't going to comp the glass of wine in lieu of a different wine selection. Wow! This is the first time in any restaurant we have had a bartender either open a new bottle and provide a new pour or offer another selection and comp the 1st pour. We were also told upon being seated a 20% tip would be added to our tab since we had a party of 6. The hostess told us 3 times on the way to the table. We paid the tab and were waiting for our group to finish using the lavatory when our waitress came up and said why didn't you leave me a tip? We told her we thought it was included with our bill as we were told on the way to the table. She said it wasn't, and she more or less demanded a tip. Another Wow! We also bring new people that come to visit to Buzz's Original Steakhouse, but maybe it's time to find another place. read more

Amazing dinner and drinks at Buzz's. This is my son's favorite place on Oahu. Located in Kailua this little gem of a steakhouse is in an island tiki bar setting and across the street from the ocean! My wife had seared scallops and tomato parmigiana soup my son had a special pork chop and I had BBQ Beef Ribs my son and I split an order of some of the best tasting escargot I've ever had! Our server Wally (who emphasized his name is spelled with a "y" in what I can only assume was an attempt to show further he was awful at his job) was terribly rude to us from when we sat down. Thank goodness a server named Blake helped us out. Almost every order was incorrect. I ordered the fishing the day (pictured), which came after my friends were half done with their meal, and was COLD. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich with no Mayo or tomato. It came with both (pictured). Another guest ordered teriyaki chicken with rice and got vegetables and French fries. I will not be returning. I'm giving one star because I can't give any less. The manager Rose took the chicken sandwich and fish order off our check, and comp'd our appetizers, which would have been nice if Wally with a "y" would've actually brought mine to the table. Great food you can count on. I give it 4 stars for location, consistency and the food. It lacks a star for the service but we will still continue to come here. We were checked in efficiently with the covid regs and seated at a table at the balcony overlooking Kailua Beach Park. Great start. We all ordered different things, 4 of us but I ordered the steak salad. Excellent steak, tender tasty and perfectly med rare. The salad was perfect as an entree lunch. Our waiter, who had been a bit snarky the whole time, asked if anyone wanted coffee with their dessert. Two wanted coffee but We all wanted dessert. One was still eating. He said, well it's going to be a while because we need to make some more coffee. We said that was fine because it meant we would get fresh coffee, right? He asked our slow eating friend, are you done with that? I say snarky because he came 3 times to ask if we were done and each time we said no. She felt pressured so she said yes but we told her to keep eating till the dessert came. We all ordered desserts and 2 coffees. He brought the desserts coffee and our bill. The coffee was cold. When he came back and was told the coffee was cold he said he had told us they were making fresh coffee so it was going to take time but we said we wanted to wait for it. Confused, we asked if we got old cold coffee or new cold coffee. He got annoyed and said "we don't do that" it was fresh. So again my friend asked if she could have coffee but hot, she asked if he could microwave it and he again was snooty and said "they don't do that here" so he reluctantly took the mugs back and mumbled that it was going to take time. He comes back with the receipt to our bill. He comes back without the coffees and says the coffee machine is not working it isn't brewing with hot water. But that they already ran our bill on the credit card and his manager said they couldn't take it off. (??) But we could have a free dessert or calendar as compensation for the 2 cold coffees. My friend pointed out that we had just eaten dessert and she really wasn't interested in a calendar. He didn't want to rerun the bill. So we all ordered more dessert. He seemed annoyed still, and asked us, you're going to have more dessert? We said yes, we got it, we left. He never apologized that he served us cold coffee. I think, if they want to turn around tables, they should have a stated policy of how long you have to sit. We had a reservation and I don't think we took that long, when the food arrived, we ate it reasonably quickly but Buzz is not McDonald's and you don't eat their lunches in 10-20min because it takes 20-30 to get the food. This is a long review because everything else was great but this kind of non-service pulls down the experience. read more

My family loved our meal at Buzz's! We had the calamari appetizer and were mopping up the buttery caper sauce with bread once we finished the calamari. I had the steak special and enjoyed every bite. This place is a bit expensive but delicious. It's the perfect restaurant to eat a really nice meal. Everything is yummy and we love getting the calamari steak. If you only like calamari heavily deep fried, it may not be the best for you but I love the perfectly crispy breading and soft inside without being to chewy. And the sauce on it is crazy good. Their steaks are amazing and the fish of the day is literally the biggest portion of fish I've ever seen at a restaurant. Definitely left here full and happy. We had a lovely dinner for seven at Buzz's last night. We had a number of food allergies and dietary restrictions and our waitress was really accommodating. The fresh fish was outstanding, the streaks were excellent and we like the choices of beer and had an excellent cocktail. Want to especially give a shout out to our waitress, Julie. We love this little place on the park! Literally right across the street from the beach, it's a great place to grab lunch, dinner, or cocktails. Lots of outdoor seating and friendly service. Upon arrival, the host was flamboyant, fun, and friendly. We had reservations and still had to wait a little bit which was fine but then we were seated in a side area next to the hostess podium. I was somewhat surprised because I remember dining at Buzz's Pearl City back in the day and it was a luxurious experience. This Buzz's felt like a glorified sizzler due to the service as well as the food quality. The main reason I went, there was for the artichokes. Both the steamed artichoke and the artichoke surprise were a little warm, but mostly cold. They were watery and flavorless. I remember Buzz's artichokes as one of the best appetizers I've had in Hawaii. Sad. The entrees weren't that bad, but the best part of the meal was the bread. Caesar is ok, it doesn't have much kick, and is a heavy olive oil base in the taste. But the spinach (i didn't get) looked interesting. It had bacon and cheese along with the dressing. The salad is the only complimentary side. Mashed potatoes or rice are a cost add on. Bread slices are smaller and come in pairs, the butter is a bit hard to put on with the provided steak knives, so that can be trickier. The restaurant charges for bread after the first basket, but it isn't necessary to get seconds because of the portion size. I got to try the calamari steak and it was one of the better things. As an appetizer it was $15 but it was shareable and also came with an extra thing of sauce. The flavor was very good - a strong lemon butter caper sauce. I did the surf and turf add on scampi and got three shrimp for $15. On top of the $45 for a rare new york steak. The steamed vegetables had already cooled, and the rosemary sprig garnish was very large, but filled space on the plate more than anything. The steamed carrots were unevenly cooked. Some were soft and almost broke apart, but most were firm enough to almost make the fork slip. The broccoli was alright, but it was bland. I was expecting at least some garlic for seasoning, but it seems the location prefers to keep the side's flavors very understated The steak was also on the more "alright" category, but that may have been because I got the surf and turf. The scampi came out on top of the steak with the expectation of pouring the butter sauce over it all, so it may have been kept more plain to let the butter highlight after being drizzled on. The outside fat has a strong char, but it also hadn't soaked In any flavors during the preparation. The steak was a fair size. I finished it rather than having leftover the way I would at other locations with a similar price point. But I can't complain in the slightest. The bread pudding with cinnamon and caramel sauce was the high point of the meal for me. The sauce was good; the bread pudding did not have raisins, which was to my preference. The ice cream and the bread balanced well. Both were soft and very much enjoyed. I also got to taste the lemon merengue sorbet, and it was also very good. Dessert seems to be one of the highlights at Buzz, they all stood out well to me. Service was very nice, and accommodated the group of ten I was with, even though we ran 10-20 minutes late for seating as there was construction by Kalapawai market. Service was fast and attentive and I will recommend them for that. They had also run out of the prime rib before I arrived, so my experience may have not been the best because they were out of some things. That said, everything we ordered was great and we would definitely come back. Don't miss the spring rolls, and if you order them..do it right! Wrap the spring roll in the lettuce with the mint. It's a revelation! I had the Ground Sirloin steak with mushrooms and onions. It came with THICK fried potato wedges. The steak served medium was well seasoned and filled with fatty goodness. We happened upon Buzz's by accident and stopped in for lunch. There was about a 30 minute wait for a table - which was to be expected based on their location and crowds at Kailua Beach.
