The Buxton Munch is a really great place to grab lunch, if you're in the area. Everything we've tried has been wonderful, and it's always freshly made and piled high. My fiancé had been bragging about this place for over a year so I was ecstatic to finally try the Buxton Munch. It did not disappoint! I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos and my fiancé ordered the fried shrimp tacos. These were the best tacos I have ever eaten. They're a little pricey but you get so much food for the money, so it's worth the price. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The wait was a little long but again, the food was well worth the wait. Especially since it's made fresh to order. If you are ever in Buxton, make sure you go to the Buxton Munch because you will not be disappointed! Great place! read more

I can't believe this was our first visit today! We had a great time and a great meal for lunch! When we first got there, four tables had just all finished at once and the entire staff was busy changing over tables and helping customers, so it took a few minutes to get seated but the hostess was very nice and explained that they were short staffed and asked us to forgive them. That was so refreshing and genuine - we empathized and appreciated the gesture. Then we get to the amazing food! Our party of 7 had a variety of items and they were all excellent! The kids had the chicken nuggets and freakinggood fries, and they were! The adults had mostly wraps, from the crabby Jamaican to the fish wrap, but mine was the best! I got the Jamaican me crazy chicken wrap - the best chicken wrap I've ever had. My waiter said he gets them every shift for himself. The wrap was fresh and spicy with a deep bodied jerk sauce that made u sweat but also want to take the next bite immediately! This is by far the best place to get lunch on the Outer Banks they have a fun atmosphere, the people are all very nice, everything on the menu is great it can be hard at times to choose what to get because everything is so good. There are not many quality dining out options on Hatteras island in the Outer Banks. But if you are looking to break the cycle of daily barbecues at your beach cottage, Buxton Munch more than fits the bill. The portions are pretty big, prices are reasonable and the variety is more than adequate. They are famous for their beach tacos which are served on a large plate with the protein of your choice (get the grilled mahi mahi) plus all the fixins to put everything together. If you are a light eater this would likely be enough for two people. My wife ordered this and it was very good. And it is served with house made tortilla chips and salsa. I must say that the crab cakes here are excellent. And they are CRAB cakes, not a bunch of filler. I ordered the crabby patty in sandwich form and it was excellent. It had plenty of crab meat that you could actually taste. As many of you know, finding good crab cakes outside the Baltimore area can be a challenge. Not so here. These are good. There are also a good variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads and wraps available. I can vouch for the crab wrap. It's top notch because they use the above mentioned crab cake in it. On one of my visits they were featuring an excellent shrimp and corn chowder that I tried. I told the owner I was from New England and that this soup could hang with some of the best chowders coming out of the northeast. Needless to say, she was happy to hear that. Please note that this is strictly a lunch based business. Be prepared to wait a bit for a table because they are turning out such good food. But have no fear, it will be worth the wait. My friends and I have made this a must-eat-at spot on our yearly OBX vacations. read more

This is a mom and pop shop with great smoothies and wraps. They have a Nirvana Wrap - which is vegan and has hummus and a whole lot of fresh veggies. It was only $5. Their smoothies are also awesome. BUXTON MUNCH IS THE BOMB!!! Me and my family come to the OBX every summer and ALWAYS stop at this place at LEAST 3 times before leaving. My favorite thing to get is the Crabby Pattie, which they are known for, with a side of their delicious fries. My wife loves the fish tacos (blackened) and my kids love them as well. This place is friendly and clean, we ALWAYS have good service and it feels like a real family kinda establishment. The prices are decent, especially for the OBX which is NOTORIOUS for high prices, especially on seafood. CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH THIS PLACE! read more

They were good and it definitely was a very cute place with its eclectic decor but we have had several fish tacos and were by no means amazing. The sweet potatoes were how we awesome ! It's a spot where you are VERY aware that the staff is busy and you will be waiting. They let you know at every opportunity, which makes me think a lot of their customers (you are NOT a guest here, manage your expectations) are probably horrible. BUT, I would recommend ordering your food to go, smile kindly when they tell you for the fifth time that your food is going to be awhile, pay and don't forget to tip so they know you heard them about how busy and tired they are, then go see the Futuro House five minutes down the road to the west (Google it! It's so fun!), snap a few photos with the aliens, go back and pick up your food, and then dine al fresco over at the picnic tables near the Hatteras lighthouse. All of our food was delicious and more quantity than we could eat! The shrimp were huge and juicy, and all of the sauces were just divine. You won't be disappointed. In the food, anyway! What a great find during our trip to Cape Hatteras! We did have to wait about 1/2 hour to get a table. There was availability to sit at the bar, but we wanted a table. I ordered the fish tacos and hubby ordered chicken tacos. Huge, and I do mean huge, platters arrived. 4 very hot soft taco shells arrived wrapped in foil with fresh salsa and sour cream. On the platter was a huge piece of fish along with red onions, rice, black beans, lettuce tomatoes. There was no way my husband nor I could eat everything. Food was so plentiful, we could have split one platter. Everything was fresh. The waitress was great and food was delicious! We highly recommend a stop here! This is not fast food. Its in a small little shopping center off the road a bit. We were welcomed by the friendly staff and sat our party of 6 right away. 2 of us ordered the rockfish tacos. They were probably the best fish tacos I have ever had. Presentation was excellent also and portion size was huge. Wife got the avacodo crab wrap which she thought was very good. Just like most everyone, I would have to say this place is great for lunch! My boyfriend and I grabbed food from there to go. We ordered a steak quesadilla onion pedals and a Michelle's wrap. It only took us about 10 minutes to get our food and let me tell you we were very pleased and our stomachs were too. After the rude treatment from the owner today, we will never eat here again. My husband and I had been here for lunch a few weeks ago and we talked to the owner then about bringing a group of 10 for lunch this week. We were told BY THE OWNER this was fine and they could put two tables together like they did for the 10 people who were sitting next to us that day. Today, the owner had a horrible attitude and was extremely rude to us and said they never put tables together and that I was wrong that she ever said that. She said that she could not seat us together today even if she had two tables side by side open. The waitress recognized me and my group because of our matching T-shirts. I had told her and the owner we would be wearing them. The waitress was very friendly and was going to accommodate us but it was the owner who refused. Not only was the owner rude to us but upon talking to someone else outside, we discovered they had been treated the same way by her. He said he was told by the owner that she couldn't seat their smaller group and at that time there were two open tables. He said she was very rude to them as well. The food might be good here but there are too many other great choices for dining on the island that give service with a smile and not with the attitude this lady has. * I knew she would write a negative response as I've seen this on Yelp and Trip Advisor. You WERE RUDE. YOU WERE RUDE TO OTHERS AND WE WERE PREPARED TO WAIT. I don't appreciate you saying you don't serve 10 at a table by pushing them together when we saw it another visit. Plus you and your waitress did tell us it could be done for us. You are a very rude person. Lady, when your customers are complaining only about YOU and not your staff or food...you need to quit being rude in person and in responses to reviews on the internet. It's just ok. The wait staff is super friendly and up from that they have SLOW service. They were packed a S we took all this as a good sign. We sat at the bar and our order was taken right away. Then we waited 40 min for our food. We are self entertaining and not in any rush, it was was borderline too long. The fish and shrimp we ordered were fresh and cooked nicely but shrimp were TINY. There was enough for three shrimp per taco, so pretty thin on protien for $16. The accoutrements were very vanilla: corn tortillas, salsa with little to no flair, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, black beans (straight from can, no flavor), plain white rice. I can't believe it took me this long to write my review. Me and my boyfriend visited this unique little restaurant in the beginning of July. We only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated,but I would have waited longer. The fish tacos were probably the best I've ever had. The shrimp and corn chowder was delicious. Jeff doesn't eat seafood (his loss, if you ask me) but he enjoyed the burger he ordered. Great food, a traditional stop for us on our yearly visit. Very crowded (good for business), over an hour wait for tables and they would not take a to go order. Waitress was very short with us at the counter and borderline rude. We'll come back, but my view of this place has changed and that's a shame ... I am really on the fence with this place. I have been to the restaurant numerous times. While the food is excellent and I have never had a complaint with that, the service from the owner (female owner) is horrendous. She barely smiles at the customers who she isn't familiar with and is very standoffish.
