Pain au chocolate, pistachio rose danish, and a raspberry almond croissant

Run and arrive early to this little local bakery on South Clinton right next to The Cinema. They are open at 8am on Saturday and Sunday but the lines start well before. I normally hate standing in a line waiting for I decided to grit my teeth and give this bakery a chance. I am beyond excited to say it was well worth the wait. They are not an industrial kitchen. They bake what they are going to sell for the day and that is it.what they have is what they have. While the hours are currently 8-1 they have closed early a few days after selling out. Go get and enjoy.

Was looking forward to trying Butterjoy. I got several things to try, butter croissant, pain au chocolat, pistachio cherry orange scone, blueberry marscapone. Sadly they for the most part except the pistachio cherry scone were well over cooked, burnt in some cases. This is a shame as after peeling back the over cooked pastery I was able to sample the flavors and they were quite nice. Unfortunately it meant in some cases 40% of it was not eatable or had a burnt taste Hopefully this was just a bad day, it

We were shopping in the wedge neighborhood and lunch time, the food idea came up. On our way to see the makeover of the Highland Dinner, Butterjoy came up! An article was in The City paper during the dead of winter mentioning its retail venture and we wanted to give it a try. Very glad we did! Nice selection of croissants and beverages. Almond, mascarpone, raspberry and chocolate filling. Cute space shared with the Cinema. Lots of ambiance and antiques. Very pleasant lady's servicing customers. This is a must ! A little slice of Paris in the South Wedge!

The atmosphere inside continues with the whimsy as you will see so many gorgeous baked goods on display. The staff were friendly and I enjoyed chatting with them during my visits. I loved the amount of options available. I got a potato knish and chocolate croissant. Both were incredibly delicious! The pastry was so flaky and buttery. Goodman Bakes is the kind of place that makes you want to try everything. The offerings are just so enticing! I thought the prices were fair with each item I purchased being in the 6 dollar range. The shop offers outside seating with picnic tables in front.

While the filling was delicious, I felt like the pastry itself was a little dry and could've used more filling. There were gaps in the middle that did not have any filling. The pastry itself was also quite expensive for what it was - it ended up being $7. The person who was at the counter was very willing to answer any questions but I think it would also be helpful to have descriptions (for some of the more uncommon pastries) and prices listed with the pastries.

Both flavors were incredible: super creamy and rich. My friend got chocolate almond fudge, and that was just as good. We also grabbed some baked treats to go (brownie, whoopie pie, and muffins), and everything tasted amazing. Other than sweet treats, they also have coffees and teas on their menu, and a bunch of different dairy products. It feels cozy, local, and authentic - like everything is fresh or straight from the farm. It's actually part of a long-standing local farm operation, which makes the experience feel even more genuine. I also loved that they support other local businesses and sell products from them, it adds to that community feel. Overall, this place is more than just an ice cream stop, it's a whole experience. Definitely coming back.
