I tried Butch's for the first time recently, my friend got it for me when I wasn't feeling well. I had always heard of it and passed by it fairly frequently. I must admit I didn't have very high expectations for it, but I was pretty impressed once I tried it. I had the avo-turkey on squaw bread and a pickle on the side. This place has the best turkey & avocado on squaw bread! I'm completely addicted to it (and I'm not even a big fan of turkey!). It's a great place to stop for lunch, but they get pretty busy at lunch time so I always go on off hours. My only complaint is that the sandwich I order runs a bit on the pricey side (because you have to pay extra for the avocado), especially considering the size of the sandwich. Even so, I'll dish out the money every now and then since it's definitely one of my favorite sandwiches! read more

Good ol' yelp steered me here today for lunch. I really like places like this, small, friendly,not a chain. I had a 8" Turkey grinder, the bread was soft and fresh which totally makes or breaks a sandwich. Looks like its popular with the working lunch crowd. This place gets ZERO stars for service alone. I've tried it a few times but the service is just horrible. I phoned in a to go order to speed things up. When I got there the girl told me it would be ready in a few minutes. 25 minutes passed by and I sat there waiting. The same girl kept looking at me never saying a word. Finally, one of the guys asked if he could help me with something since I was only sitting there in an empty place for that long. Told him I've been waiting for a to go order for almost 30 minutes. He brings the sandwiches out that have been sitting the whole entire time so I'm sure they won't even be warm anymore. No apologies or anything. Seems like a regular thing here. Word of advice, pay a little more attention and at least recognize when you guys f up. read more

Had a turkey ham and roast beef grinder from here and it was outstanding highly recommend. Prices are reasonable and staff was friendly and helpful. There is an extra charge for additional meats but they do not charge you for the veggies. My Sandwhich came out to a little more than $13 for the large one. read more

I've been going to Butch's since the 80's, and the quality has remained consistent. I love how it feels to walk in on a sweltering summer day and smell the fresh onions and bread. They have an excellent selection of beverages, chips, sides and desserts (including ice cream). I've never experienced anything other than courtesy from the staff, and it must be a good place to work because you don't see a lot of turnover. If you don't have to go there during weekday lunch hours, don't. It gets insanely busy. Why? Because it's so good. read more

This little hole in the wall does not dissapoint, husband and I had to run some late errands and I did not want to cook when we got home. I read the reviews on here and was like yes must try esp since we live a block away. When we got there we were greeted and we needed some time to look over the menu. My husband got the turkey bacon and avocado on sourdough and I went with the pastrami. We got two bags of chips and a small potato salad as well, we got home put the grocery away and ate dinner. It was amazing so fresh and delicious, we are very happy people. We live a block away and I see this being very dangerous in the future lol! read more

I got the ham and swiss cheese on squaw. It was a very good sandwich. The bread was fantastic. The meat and toppings were good except the tomatoes, they were a little under-ripened. I used to live across the street from here at the new port apartmetns and get a turkey on squaw and they were always fantastic. I would pair it with some A&W cream soda and a pack of Keebler Jalapeno Crackers....always a terrific lunch. read more

Yep...haven't been here in 13 years and the turkey, bacon avocado on Squaw (extra mayo) is still one of the best sandwiches on the planet, and Butch's still serves them gynormous and full of high quality and fresh ingredients. $13 for a large coke, chips and sandwich is still a lot, but it's definitely worth it!! read more

So sandwiches are one of my favorite foods, and I feel so lucky to live in riverside where there are so many stellar options! I've actually never been to Butch's until today, but I'm so glad I finally stopped in. I got a large cold turkey grinder to go. I'm eating it right now and I'm in heaven! Yes- I am literally typing this between bites. The bread is fresh and soft, and the seasoning is perfect. Simple, fresh, delicious. I love that they use white onions and that they are sliced so thin. I tried this shop out today based on raving reviews. My initial impression was not good as the person at the counter was not at all friendly. I greeted her in a friendly way and she kind of just looked at me. I ordered a turkey melt and realized when I got home that all I got was a regular cold turkey sandwich. It could have been a subway sandwich and I wouldn't have known the difference. I won't be returning and wish I could get my $8 back. read more
