Pulled pork sandwich, poutine and macaroni and cheese.
Tara K.

Second time stopping by Butchies. Managed to find a lovely seat outside in the sun, no large crowds even for a Sunday afternoon. Service was lovely and quick. Environment was very welcoming. Ordered pulled chicken sandwich, side of macaroni, veggie burger and poutine. Everything was delicious. I want to try the pimento cheese and some of the dipping sauces next! Highly recommend!

July 20, 2024 - Nashville chicken sandwich + Home Cut Fries + Sorbet Float

July 2, 2024 - My friend treated me to lunch. Thank you Keisha I've passed by this restaurant quite a few times, but was never able to visit. The staff were all nice and even though there was a line almost to the door it was moving quite quickly. Throughout the entire time that we were there, there was almost always a line to the door. The interior is nice, lots of seats. We ordered: 1 Nashville Chkn + Hand Cut Fries 1 Sorbet Float 1 Nashville Chkn + Hush Puppies *Remy Dip* 1 CPB Shake The Nashville chicken was thick and nicely fried, for me it was a bit too salty. I'm definitely going to go back and try something different.

This restaurant has been hyped up in the Durham Region Eats group on Facebook. I decided to give them a try. The restaurant is run by well-known Food Network personality and chef Andrea Nicholson. I did see her working the front of the kitchen, preparing and chopping vegetables. We ordered a bunch of entrées. Most of my family ordered the buttermilk chicken wings, buttermilk chicken tenders, pulled pork sandwich, and country fried chicken steak with white gravy, You have a choice of 1, 2, 3 sides. The pricing reflects the number of sides. Some of the sides require additional charge while the regular sides are fries, mashed potato, mac n cheese, hush puppies, coleslaw, cucumber salad, and green beans. We arrived prior to the lunch rush, it seemed. Only a few customers inside. We were optimistic that our orders would come out pretty fast. We were unfortunately mistaken. We waited about 1 hour for our orders to come out. I understand the food was supposed to be made to order, but it took way too long. I also noticed many take out orders being prioritized and packed up. The kitchen needed a manager to ensure orders are getting prepared as fast as possible. Maybe the owner should have been managing the front of the front of the house instead of chopping broccoli. As for the food, I had the country fried steak with 2 sides, hush puppies, and mac n cheese, $19.50. The white gravy had some bits of bacon. The steak was underseasoned, and the breading was soggy. I think the gravy was a bit too thick, and it seemed like the gravy was sitting there for a while. The sides were decent. Mac n cheese was seasoned well, and a powdery cheese sprinkled on top. The hush puppies freshly fried and were my favourite side. The Remy dipping sauce complimented the hush puppies very well. The buttermilk chicken wings were crispy and came with a buffalo hot dipping sauce. The wings were decent size and meaty. The cucumber salad with dill sauce was pretty good as well. The mashed potatoes were also under-seasoned and didn't come with gravy (extra $3) For my first visit, the overall experience fell short of my expectations. The hype of a Food Network personality running a local restaurant in my neighborhood was the main attraction. I will give them another chance and try their smoked chicken or pork shoulder.

Pulled pork sandwich with crispy yams

We had Butchies tonight and wow what a meal!!! Definitely has that southern country style home cooking taste and style to it I had the pulled pork sandwich with two sides being the hush puppies and the crispy yams The hush puppies were super awesome and tasty and the dip that went along with was yummo!!! The yams had a nice lil spicy dip that went along with it and gave them a nice taste to it My wife had the crispy buttermilk chicken strips with fries and a Caesar salad The chicken strips were crispy and tender Overall the meal itself was satisfying and filling Definitely a place to go when you want that home style cooked meal Will definitely go back again!!!

Second review for Butchies and once again....another winner. This week they had a special of pork&beans with jalapeño cornbread....i can't say enough good things. This place has great bbq and everything is delicious! Portions are big! For the amount of people they have walking in and out and staying their service is fast! Come check them out.

Another great find via yelp! Pulled in parking lot and the smell of smoke meats was enticing! Didn't disappoint once inside. We both had the grilled salmon Sammie...Didn't disappoint. Had a nice remoulade sauce. You could choose 1, 2 or 3 sides. I got the cucumber salad. Nice big chunks of cuke in a light mayo dill sauce. My husband's green beans ew nice.. needed just a little more tenderness. Overall excellent.

Excellent service, friendly staff, went on a Wednesday evening, busy but enough seating available. Busy because this place is so great. The fries are crispy and really good. Cucumber salad is creamy and tasty. Will have to go back to try more sides. I very much enjoyed the hush puppies and dip. Please go and try Butchies.

Four of us came to Butchies based on a recommendation, having no other business in Whitby but to try this restaurant. This is a very simple restaurant where you order at the counter and have your food served one of about a dozen tables (based on the photos, they also have outdoor seating in the summer months). The service is quick and adequate and the atmosphere is for all intents and purposes neutral. Butchies is all about the food. They offer a number of southern-style meat dishes such as chicken fried steak and buttermilk fried chicken, and brisket, as well as some daily specials (trout on the day of our visit). Each dish comes with a couple of sides. There is also an impressive selection of craft beer including picks from Little Beasts Brewing Co. which is about 15 minutes away (review to follow). We ordered four meat dishes along with every imaginable side dish and a handful of pints. The food was excellent. Everything is prepared fresh from scratch. The meat is juicy and flavor without being too oily. The sides are rich and comforting. Every aspect of every dish feels like its been generously lubricated in fat (if you know, you know) and flavor. For dessert I had a slice of raspberry rhubarb pie (also made from scratch) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a cup of tea. The tea was the one bit of the meal where Butchies could use to improve as it was a simple tea bag. Also, some home-brewed iced tea would be great given the southern style of the restaurant. Don't even think about coming to Butchies if you are counting carbs or calories. They don't skimp on the butter. Even the brussels sprouts dish looked to be fried in butter (I doubt I would eat them otherwise to be honest). Butchies hits all the right notes on well prepared southern comfort food. Its not something you can eat every day but its definitively worth coming back for.

Modern diner vibe

A modern diner restaurant in Whitby - Butchies serves comfort food. The menu includes your option of a meat plus 1, 2 or 3 sides. You order up at the counter and pay. Staff brings you water, cutlery and food to your table. There aren't any table numbers, they call your name out and you wave them over to you. The restaurant was busy on a Wednesday and staff were still able to navigate and find tables. They also have a wide selection of beers and a huge beautiful patio which I'm sure is buzzing in the summer. Food: 1) buttermilk fried chicken wings - large, deeply fried and tasty but definitely on the oily side. 2) Nashville hot chicken sandwich - a good chicken sandwich hut I was missing the Nashville hot part, it just felt like a conventional hot sauce - like Frank's. Nashville hot is typically a hot cayenne oil, this one had barely any heat. Sides: Mac and cheese - 4/5, creamy and yummy Fries - 5/5 thick and delicious Brussels sprouts - 4/5, delicious but not crispy enough for my liking The pies also looked delicious but we didn't get a chance to try as we were full. Prices are good as well, we paid $29 for both meals (add tip on top).

Smoked Chicken Wings with Poutine and Buttermilk Chicken Fingers with Broccoli Salad and Mac and Cheese
Raien L.

My go-to at Butchies is the Buttermilk Chicken Fingers and Broccoli Salad. I also get the Creamy Dill Dip. Ordering is pretty straightforward, you walk up to the counter and order your meat + 1, 2, 3 sides. It takes a bit of time for them to make and bring you your order. They have plenty of seating and parking. The patio is huge and pet friendly. Checkout my IG Foodie Account @wanderandeatwithme for more foodie adventures.

Nashville chicken sandwich

We ordered pick up from Butchies for Fathers Day lunch. Although pre ordering the wait was a while but, we understand that holidays can be hectic for sure. We ordered an assortment of meals, country fried steak, chicken tenders, salmon, Mac and cheese, Nashville chicken sandwich, fries, yam fries, cucumber salad. The salmon was very dry and not much flavour unfortunately, chicken tenders were pretty overdone but otherwise, you could say it was a decent meal. Probably won't be in a rush to go back .. however, it was OK if you're looking for something different to try (and I see other reviewers have really enjoyed things so maybe volume got the best of them today.

My daughter stuck to the tried-and-true diet pepsi, and our friendly waitstaff joked with her about her sobriety! Guess who drove home? The rest of us then moved on to the excellent wine list. For dinner, I had the very delicious lamb shank with greens, polenta, and honey-sweet heirloom beets. My daughter enjoyed a veal steak and my son enjoyed his succulent, heirloom roast chicken. My husband found his seafood pasta over-salted (he really is sensitive to that - I like my food well salted). I suggested that he ask for a wedge of lemon, but our friendly server offered an even better, bold suggestion: sambal oelek. True to word, it cut through the saltiness. He was so pleased. I was so surprised by this idea. I'll have to give sambal oelek a bit more consideration. The appetizers and desserts were delightful, and the entire meal was so fun and creative! It's personal preference, I like my steak with just salt and pepper without sauce. My fault for not reading the menu correctly. The sides of purée and veggies were great. Overall KB hits it out of the ballpark and is so much better than the chain upscale eateries.

You go girls I love it. Came here for dinner and had a hard time choosing what to order as there are so many good options on the menu. Really wanted the calamari & shrimp appetizer but opted in for the shrimp bucket and the fish and chips. I also got a coconut mango drink which was super refreshing and delicious. I thought the fish tacos had a kick of spice added but they were still good. The fries were crispy, which I loved but the highlight for me has to be the shrimp. I loveeeeed the sea salt sauce. I love the decor! Very open, spacious, dark in a nice way, with a gorgeous sign at the back center wall. Staff are friendly and quick to check on you. The food was ok! I wouldn't say it was my favorite, and I wasn't quite blown away with anything. I would come back for certain things though. Starting off with the salad, the dressing had a texture and taste that I can only tell you was not made fresh in house. It had that sort of translucent quality to it that reminds me of bottled sauce. Portion was good, but I wish they would toss it for you. The bowl is full of salad and they drizzle the dressing on top. It's a thick dressing that's pretty hard to toss in the bowl. It's a minor thing but honestly would be a much better dining experience. Also if they just made their own ceasar dressing. The seafood boil was also meh. I got half pound mussels with Cajun sauce. It comes on a platter with rice, potatoes and corn. I felt that it would be nice if you could pick your own sides, like at other seafood boils. The potatoes had no flavor inside them and the corn was really starchy and rough, with no corn flavor. It was a bit off putting. The sauce was ok, but I think they use too much seasoning powder, or over cooked the garlic because it was leaving a bitter flavor behind. I didn't love it by the third bite. The fish and chips were probably the best of what we ordered. It's the Costco fries texture which I love!!! Plus the fish is cooked well. The batter is very light and crispy. Total perfection! So yeh!! I would highly recommend the fish and chips, but I would probably skip the boil here.

She has excellent customer service skills and knowledge on the menu. She made suggestions on the menu such as Crabby stuffed mushrooms, margarita flights, and steak and shrimp daily special $25. We ended up ordering the Mariner seafood boil with garlic and herb sauce and the steak and shrimp special. For appetizer we tried the crabby stuffed mushrooms. All the food was scrumptious and we were given bibs and gloves to keep us from making a mess with the seafood boil. The Mariners boil is good for 2 people. Next time we will just order this and one appetizer. The restaurant is clean and staff are friendly. Recommend making a reservation if you don't want to wait.

We arrived around 6:45 pm and saw a small line with two groups ahead, but the place is much bigger than it looks from the outside and we were seated quickly in a comfortable booth for four. The pub was clean, and I was especially surprised at how spacious and tidy the washrooms were--not what I usually expect from a pub, which tend to feel older and worn. The menu is huge, and TVs are everywhere--even in our booth. Between us, we tried a good range of dishes: 1. Caprese Salad with Steak - nicely balanced with pesto, though the steak was a little dry. 2. Fish and Chips - incredible portion for $18! Crispy, perfectly cooked fish with fries, coleslaw, and even a Caesar salad. The fries were well-seasoned (no ketchup needed), coleslaw was enjoyable despite me usually not liking it, and the Caesar was delicious. 3. Mexican Salad - flavorful, fresh, and generous in portion. 4. Tuesday Wing Special - wings were $0.90 each, so I ordered 15 with a Coke Zero. The garlic Parmesan was disappointing--dry and lacking flavor--but the Buffalo ranch wings were tender and spot-on. Service was friendly, though our waitress could have been more proactive with drink and water refills. Overall, I was impressed. Clean space, huge portions, good value, and a welcoming pub atmosphere. Definitely a solid stop if you're in the area.
