HORRIBLE FOOD!! By far the WORST food I have EVER eaten in Texas. No seasoning on anything! I got the roast beef, which was so tough and horrible tasting, green beans, which were bland, and nasty homemade corn casserole which was burnt and had no flavor. Love the feel of this place and the wait staff is very nice, but we went on an extremely busy day and it took 45 plus minutes to receive our food. I had the chicken and waffles which looked great, but the flavor just wasn't there. Stopped by after seeing this restaurant on the road. It was confusing to find the main door and whether we had to seat ourselves or not. We flagged someone down to clean the table for us. The waitresses were nice and the food was ok. We had to ask two different waitresses for our utensils because the first one forgot. It's hard to mess up breakfast. It was good but I was not wow'd. I had the Cajun breakfast. The potatoes, some were soft others weren't cooked all the way through. They also needed more seasoning. The star of the plate was the sausage. I also had a short stack of pancakes on the side. The pancakes are large and buttery. My partner had the fried seafood plate. The crust was seasoned well. I like that they mix their cocktail sauce with a little horseradish to give it a little kick. read more

Years ago on Christmas Day, after celebrating the night before with our large family, we decided we did not want to cook and started searching to see what was open in the area. Busy Bee was. I've been in Pearland for over 20 years and this place has always been here, right off the railroad track in "old" Pearland. I've often wondered how they stay in business with all the chains around, but this is one of those places that has that hometown feel and has many regulars. Since our first visit, Busy Bee is that spot we go to on an actual holiday. I have yet to come here on a regular day of the year. The staff here is wonderful. You get that genuine good service from a more seasoned worker, not the kids who don't understand what good customer service is at one of the chains in the area. This place has times when there are no cars in the lot, but at peak times, it's full. Walking in, you can tell it's been around for awhile. It's got that old time charm. Everyone seems to know each other. There's a bar top where people eat at or there's plenty of seating in the dining area as well. Food wise, I've had a variety of things. I've had a good ole traditional breakfast with eggs, proteins and a starch. You can build your own breakfast which I like so I can get exactly what I want. I just discovered their cinnamon rolls which are massive and delicious. On my most recent visit, I went with a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mac. It was a large portion and I ate three meals out of it. Was it the best I've had? Nah. It was good though. It's what you would expect at a local diner. You gotta go in with that mindset. I have yet to find that meal that wows me here, but I always leave satisfied. They seem to be doing just fine with their peak crowds and regulars. Haven't been in here in a while but I'm glad I did. It's a simple restaurant, you pick your seat and are served shortly afterwards. The staff is pleasant and the food comes out quick and hot. They weren't kidding when they said the full cinnamon roll was huge and for about $6 I was very pleasantly surprised. The dough of the cinnamon roll was good and moist. I wish the icing was a bit less thick but the flavors went well and it was a good addition to my cup of coffee. Pretty solid breakfast experience with servers that are sweet as their cinnamon rolls. I had the Build-a-Breakfast with poached eggs, bacon, and half a cinnamon roll (which was still too much) and an iced coffee. Hubs had the chicken fried steak with hash browns and a drip coffee. He liked the flavor but said the steak had a bit too much gristle for his liking. My breakfast was fine, can't go wrong with bacon and eggs! So this place is like Cheers bar to my family in Pearland & I really appreciate the wait staff service but the food... ughh that's a whole different book all together. While visiting Pearland the 2 different weekends in the month of April I was subjected to eat here 3 times because in my family age beats out the taste of food, meaning when you are with family you only see a few times a year the places your elders choose to eat beat out where you choose because the company you are in is all that matters. That being said the busy bee must cater to mostly the elderly because they do not season their food at all. I mentioned this to my aunt who kept choosing this place, she laughed & said yes I can't have salt anymore... she proceeded to tell me her long list of other elements she has also then said that's why us old folk eat there. I did order a patty melt on the last day & that was pretty tasty. The wait staff is very nice. It does take a long time to get your food even though they seat you quickly which is odd. There were quite a few fresh vegetables listed in their sides. I'm probably going to get the veggie plate next time. My husband ordered the burger. It was a good diner 1/3 lb burger with jalapeños. The ladies that work there are charming, and it's pretty cozy inside. I would've given it five stars if we hadn't been subjected to Fox News on three huge televisions. My family is fairly new to Pearland and because of Covid, we haven't explored many restaurants in town. We decided to go out to lunch after our first in-person church service (since March 2020). I absolutely LOVE diners and found Busy Bee Cafe on Yelp. I actually didn't read any of the reviews prior to going but I am reading them now and am actually SHOCKED by all the low ratings this place has. TOTALLY not our experience at all... We came around 11:30am on a Sunday. A sign at the door said "Seat yourself" and we went into the back room which is reserved for parties of 5 or more. Perfect for our family of 5. I'd say the restaurant had a fair share of customers. Not overly crowded but not empty either. Our server, Jennifer K, was exceptional!! Very friendly, prompt and helpful. She was personable, not a robot just "doing her job". I liked that she called me "mom" and always served me first. Made me feel special. My husband and I both went with the club sandwich (LOVE DINER CLUBS), I got mine with regular fries and he got the house made chips. Our girls both picked the kids pancake (ps it's shaped like Mickey Mouse) with sausage and our son got the kids chicken strips with fries. The food was FANTASTIC! Our clubs were perfect! Fries were piping hot and delicious and the fresh chips were awesome: crispy yet soft at the same time. We had to sample the kid's food.... you know, for research purposes of course. The chicken strips were INCREDIBLE. Are they house-made??? They sure seemed like it to us AND there were 4 of them! (I might get those next time they were THAT good). Now for our daughter's pancakes... I'm not a huge pancake fan, I mean, I think the only time in my adult life that I ate them was when I was pregnant... anyways, Busy Bee Cafe's pancakes were so good! I also never would put butter on them but the girls put the whipped butter AND syrup on them and it was so delicious, my "one bite" might have turned into like 3 or 4. Yeah, so good! As for the atmosphere, well, this place definitely looks old. I'm not going to lie when I was a bit concerned with the possible mold on the ceiling tiles out in the large group section. My only regret is not discovering this place sooner! I have lived in the area for over 2 years now, and we came in on Easter Sunday, and wow! We have been searching for a classic breakfast spot outside of Waffle House, First Watch, etc; and it is safe to say that we found it! It is self-seating, but the wait staff is super quick to take your order and the food comes out in record time. They have excellent customer service, and it is so warm and welcoming! No greeting upon entry. No guidance on what to do or signage. Six waitresses for a 3/4 full, at the most, restaurant but they managed to avoid us. We sat at a table and not tucked a way in the booth. After soliciting assistance the waitress tried to play it off but was slow getting our drinks. Then, our chosen menu item wasn't available and we had to ask for the menus back because we failed to memorize it when we had it. That waitress bailed on us and we got a new one...so as not to negatively affect the pooled tips? Left the new waitress 15%. While we were waiting, which was the majority of our time at Busy Bug, two waitresses were socializing with a table of three elderly people.
