HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Wow that was a fireworks-in-my-mouth meal. Had the Yakisoba Noodles with Tofu. The tofu was marinated to perfection. The carrots were flavorful and crunchy. My husband brought me home a brussels sprout salad from BUSU prepared on 1/28/2022. That salad was absolutely incredible! I have never had a salad with so much flavor - it really hit all the important elements of amazing taste and quality. The salad had brussels, finely chopped onion, mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, another seed that I wasn't familiar with, wasabi almonds and it was tossed in very tasty dressing that I wish came in a bottle because if it did, I'd buy it just to try and re-create this salad. This is the second meal I have eaten here and the Okonomiyaki was not good today. The owner assured me the shrimp was local and fresh. It was dried shrimp probably reconstituted from dried and bagged. Yuck. Also, there was so much brown salty sauce drowning the pancake that you couldn't anything else. Passing through Astoria today, we asked the bud tender for a lunch recommendation. We were approaching hanger when we walked up to the window and were greeted by the super friendly chef/owner. We saw lots of interesting options on the menu and ordered the tuna salad sandwich which came with locally sourced albacore and pickled veggies, yakisoba noodles with tofu, and a side of vegetables fresh from the farmers market. It was all beautifully presented and delicious. I'd definitely recommend this place. If you're looking for fresh, seasonal, and authentic I would totally give Busu a whirl. read more

Husband and I stopped by Astoria on a rainy Sunday, and worked up an appetite. Didn't want heavy bar food. It's COVID, so we didn't want to sit inside a restaurant. Real Ramen in Astoria! A huge hole in Astoria's food scene has been masterfully filled. Don't miss out. The guy is legit! OFUKURO NO AJI ("Mom's cooking", if she ran TOMPOPO). The owner, Kenneth, knows and cares about ingredients and layers of flavor. Today Ramen was a rich wild mushroom / chicken based soup. Busu-San makes his own alkaline noodles! Definitely not something done by most. The experts warn against trying to make your own, and being one to ignore expert warnings, I can verify that it is damn hard tedious work. And he was sold out of he hand-made noodles! Every other ingredient is well made and right on the flavor target. The hours required to achieve the depth of umami have definitely been invested. His house made pickled mushrooms rocked. Pork shoulder is really delicious. All in All I'd say we'll be checking back frequently to see what Busu has to offer. read more

Had the "pickles". Best pickled anything I've ever had. It would have been my desert island food if it had daikon in it. Mushrooms were beyond perfect, I've never had them this soft, but still some pop, juicy not soggy, sea grass was crisp and cut correctly, strawberries were fun, and the Kim chi was a 6/10. I am brutal on how Kim chi should look, taste, spice, temperature, so a 6 is super good cabbage! Glad I stopped by and tried.when I visit again this will be a must. Local owner runs the place. We didn't expect a lot given being a small town in Astoria but it was surprisingly very good! The mushroom noodle soup really hit the spot on a brisk day! The owner of the stand was very friendly and answered our questions thoughtfully. We had two soups and the asparagus appetizer/side dish. Everything was great. I was pleasantly surprised to see all vegetarian options (with some vegan too). The food came out quickly and we enjoyed it sitting on benches on the dock a short walk away. The prices are higher than I expected, but it beats paying the same amount for a more mediocre place with slower service. read more

This is a 1 man show and he does it well. The food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the yakisoba noodles and Japaneese pancakes. They were bought very tasty. Definitely a great addition to the food scene for a small town. The owner has a menu of what he will be serving for the day and it changes daily. Wow- Busu's was incredible! If you appreciate authentic Japanese flavors, give this a try. We ordered mix pickle- very fresh with vinegar bite. Good palette cleanser between the other dishes. Miso was delicious, mushroom curry was outstanding. Okonomiyaki (pancake) was show stopping- WOW! Fluffy pancake with fresh veggies and pork belly bits, delicious sauce and toppings. Man, I don't know what kind of food wizardry is being made here but the food F***ING RULES! My partner and I ordered the Yakisoba with Tofu and the Pork Belly Udon while we were staying in Astoria (12/21/19). We were utterly blown away. I've never eaten tofu with such flavor and texture before. The shoyu broth was unreal. The noodles for both dishes kicked-ass. You could really taste the passion and dedication to cooking in the food itself. My only heads-up is that this is not a sit-down restaurant but more closely like a true Japanese-style order window. We had to take the food to-go but next time I'm in Astoria I will be sitting at the window to enjoy the ambiance and smell from the kitchen. YOU MUST GO HERE; the food will change your life! I must be daft, but we didn't know there was only outdoor seating, on the sidewalk under the takeout window. This can not bode well for an Astoria winter. It was only November, and we had to put on extra jackets to eat dinner, but no hot beverages were available. The chance for Mr. Booth (Busu is a Japanese pronunciation of his last name) to have warm and happy diners around him, as he creates his wondrous dishes should be seized.
