Didn't even know this place was around until we were told, and you can easily miss it. Inside - 4/5 - Inside is nice and very clean. Plenty of places to sit. You go past multiple seating areas to the back to order. Food - This can range from 5/5 to 1/5 depending on what you order. We ordered a little of everything off the entire menu. Anything with bread wasn't great. Which honestly isn't a slam at all. It's a bbq meat place. Reality is, sandwiches and things usually are not great at places like this. The specialty dogs and sandwiches were just kinda boring. They were messy, and the great meat flavors were ruined by boring basic bread. Almost all of the meats were AMAZING. Brisket, pork, hot links, and turkey were all fantastic. 5/5 for sure. You can't go wrong with any of these. Plus if you like baked potatoes, this is the place to go. It's at the very top of the menu. The only meat that was really bad was the Italian sausage. They were very very dry and no flavor. All of us took a bite or two, and we tossed the rest in the trash. Their Mac and cheese and their broccoli casserole were both great. We got the brisket jacked Mac, and it was fantastic. Summary - it's a bbq meat place. Stick with pure meat as much as you can for your main and stay away from all the pointless filler meals with bread and buns. Order yourself a lot of meat, some Mac and cheese, and maybe a spud. If you dine there, read the back of the menu and you'll be educated. Secondly, if you drive by you'll likely see the place surrounded with cars and pickup trucks. That's usually a good sign. Our party of five waited about 15 minutes for a table at 5:30 pm. Not bad on a Saturday night. Seating is at mostly larger tables, and the entire place has a bit of a multi-room cafeteria feel. Comfortable, but a bit chopped up and crowded. They're not striving for romantic dinners. We started out with an order of their Onion Rings. Do not skip this step! And make it a large! You'll thank me for that tip. Ordering the chicken is a bit confusing, especially when your server tells you that the two thigh, one drumstick dinner is their white meat option (bless her, she said "This is my first week, I'm still learning the menu."). The chicken is very good - crispy, tender, and juicy. But don't expect large. These pieces must come from a five pound bird. The sides I ordered were their house coleslaw and potato salad. Both old German recipes. I'd recommend skipping these. The slaw was garlic heavy and sour and the potato salad had very little taste. It's not that they're wrong, just unexpected and not that good for my taste. But you may feel differently. Somehow these recipes have survived for decades! Overall, I rated Pichler's above average. It's an experience with good chicken, good service, great onion rings, and a damn interesting name!

Bruschetta usually has goat cheese or something similar. They listed it as goat cheese on the menu but it was cream cheese. Which caught me by surprise. It was tasty though. The dinner though...wow. We ordered the 6oz filet with two sides. I had the grilled asparagus and Italian roasted potatoes as my side and my wife had the Italian veggies and a salad. Everything was spectacular. Steaks were cooked perfectly and very tender with great flavor. No sauce needed! If you're looking for something off the beaten path that is different and good, then make the drive. You won't be disappointed. PS- did I mention the prices are outstanding? Filet was on special for $21.00!? What? Ate a top notch dinner for a little over 60 bucks tip and all. We will be back.

I used to drive down from Kansas City and bring it back home to family for special occasions it was that good! My wife and I have enjoyed many lunches and a few late- night dinners where we entertained guests at The Pitt in downtown Pittsburg, Kansas. We are frequent visitors to Pittsburg State University, my alma mater, and to SE Kansas in general, where I grew up from age 8 on.
