I always go to burrito famous after the gym, but today for whatever reason they decided to lock their doors before closing time and when I waved at the employees inside, they both mouthed to me that they're closed. I came to Burrito Famous on the recommendation of my parents while I was visiting Gainesville. I ordered a fried fish burrito and got a good bit of toppings- mango habanero salsa, beans, pineapple, and all the regular toppings you can find at Moes/Chipotle. In terms of flavor, the salsa was spicy, even for me, but the fish tasted fresh and still had crispness to it. Veggies all looked fresh and were nicely chopped. It wasn't the best burrito I've ever had but certainly not the worst either. A solid 3.5 stars, maybe 4 if it wasn't for the below. The issue I had was with how the burrito was wrapped- don't know if the employee was new or what but apparently her first attempt to wrap it went horribly wrong and another employee stepped in to help- but what I found when I got home was an extremely loosely wrapped burrito that essentially exploded all over my hands as I ate it...felt like I should have just got a rice bowl. My recommendation to the employees is if a burrito wrapping doesn't go well, don't try to salvage it using the same shell because it just isn't going to shut properly. Would be much better to heat up a new burrito tortilla, transfer ingredients, and wrap it the right way. read more

If you are looking for fresh ingredients and a more 'organic' taste, this place is right up your ally. They have outdoor seating, but indoors is a bit of a squeeze. Two blonde ladies behind the counter behaved like they did not know what they were doing. I got a tempeh and guacamole burrito and my wife got a fish bowl. The fish and tempeh wasn't ready, so we had to wait maybe ten minutes for them to make fresh batches. The owner was very apologetic and made the new fish and tempeh himself, and he gave us our whole meal for free because of the wait! The owner seems to really care about customer service and making sure people leave happy. My burrito was pretty good...it's 100% better than Moe's and equivalent quality to Chipotle, though there are more choices in sauces and proteins at BF than at Chipotle. The ingredients are all a lot fresher than at Moe's. I still slightly prefer the burritos at Burrito Brothers, but for something on Archer Road this is quite good. read more

As someone who frequents places that sell burritos and the like, I was excited to try Burrito Famous. I was disappointed. The staff seemed to busy chatting to help me and even though there was no line behind me, I felt rushed by them. Having never been there before it takes a minute to learn how things are structured and how to order. The staff just stared at me like I should know what to say until I told them I had never been there before. The rice in my burrito was pretty tasteless. This used to be my new go to burrito place. The customer service is awful though. Today I ordered my food and went to pay and they charged me more than the listed price on the screen. I pointed this out and they said that they had just recently changed the price. I complained to the manager on duty (pretty sure his name was Edgar, he drives the convertible dodge truck) and he simply said "the prices are what they are." Because of that I am never coming back. Well, I am hear to tell you I am less than impressed. I am a student and always looking for good deals on good food. The food here is hardly better than Taco Bell, if not worse and cost a bit more. They are stingy on the extras and the quality of the ingredients tastes cheap. Actually, the taste is also lacking. The veggies looked like they were beginning to turn and should have been trashed. Absolutely disgusting. Tried them twice before I wrote a review to be fair. Somehow the second trip was worse than the first. Both times I got heartburn, The steak was rubbery and tasteless. The beans tasted dirty, like they had actual dirt in them. Save yourself the time aggravation and money. Only good part was that they were fast, probably because no one else was in the store. I am obsessed with burrito famous. I'm a vegetarian and they have tempeh, avocado, and plantains as a vegetarian option. I've always gotten tempeh so far. I've also gotten my best friend and my boyfriend addicted to it. I used to be obsessed with chipotle but now I know that nothing could top burrito famous. They have so many options! Most of my experiences have been ok when I go buy it personally, but I ordered it online to pick it up today and had a horrible experience. First, when I finished ordering to pick it up although I selected the Newberry store at first the receipt said I had to go to Archer. I went to the Archer store and turns out it was really at the Newberry store, I decided to drive there so they wouldn't throw the food away. After having to waste 10 mins driving around I get home and the bowl is not even complete. Although I understand they run out of stuff I ordered spinach and they decided to put lettuce instead, I never asked for lettuce and I hate it in bowls. Second, the bowl tasted horrible. It was saggy and gross and had barely any flavor to it, I couldn't even eat half of it. We ordered a guacamole on the side and they didn't have any. They decided to not even inform us when we got there and we still got charged for it. It isn't about the money but about mostly having respect for your customers and not charging them for what you don't even have. They could at least place a disclaimer online for those that don't know things run out all the time. I would have cancelled my order within minutes after noticing they didn't have three of the toppings I selected. Used to like this place, but it seems to have gone down hill. The past three times I have gone, the service has been terrible and the food has been sub par. Today when I went in, there was rap music blaring unlike the usual surfer music and an older female employee was cursing and gave me horrible service. She was loudly yelling at employees in front of customers. I'm used to having a quick and laid back experience when visiting Burrito Famous, but this horrid woman caused me to have an extremely stressful visit. She seemed to have been on a shift change and was a little too eager to leave, so I was mostly being ignored. A girl with dark brown/ blackish hair helped me decide on what to get since I was new. She provided me a chip with every piece of meat I wanted to taste test which I thought was awesome. I ordered the veggie nachos (for delivery through Gainesville2go) the nachos were JUST ok. There was barely any cheese on them, they were a bit soggy, they did not put any guacamole on them (which I paid extra for), the ingredients I had the most of were actually cilantro & tomatoes (which tasted very fresh), I requested both pinto and black beans and they skimped on those as well. I wouldn't order from here again unless I was desperate for Mexican. Also, I ordered queso and chips on the side....I don't know what that queso was...but it was probably made out of a million chemicals, including wax, and kept in a vat that they never clean. I go into Burrito Famous to get lunch about once a week. It is reasonably priced, pretty tasty, the burritos are huge, and it is fast. I usually get the pork, shredded beef, or the fish and there are a wide variety of toppings and salsas to customize each to my liking. So this is a decent spot overall, BUT, we need to talk about about ska music. Since nobody really listens to this garbage, I imagine it must be company policy to torture your customers and employees with this awful music. Is this business run by a 14 year old? I imagine the turnaround rate is so high here because your employees would probably rather gouge their eardrums out than come into work another day and have to be subjected to the constant bludgeoning terror of bands like Slightly Stoopid and Reel Big Fish. Same goes for Relish and the other restaurants under your ownership. So if you are a manager or owner and you are reading this PLEASE reconsider your playlist choice. Your employees will thank you, and I won't have to dread going through the existential nightmare of revisiting the album Keasby Nights by Catch 22, even if it's only for a few minutes, just to get a some nachos read more

It is a burrito place. Here in Gainesville we have many of them. The meats were cooked well, the rice was bland, overall the food was fine, the gauc was good, and the staff was friendly and helpful! I would eat here if I was running around town, but if I had time to think about it I would probably go to Chipolte, Willies, or Moes instead because they each have a flavor that makes them more unique. Then the burrito "bowl" got smaller and if it is off hours the staff is reduced and it was considerably less than stellar. Eating at Burrito Famous was like a dream come true. The staff was friendly and the food was so good it almost wasn't even real. They drained the black beans for a good 7 seconds before artfully placing them along the bed of rice. The bacon bits and queso were like a one-two punch to my "spot." Consider it hit, ladies and gentlemen. And when they put the wrapped burrito in that heated presser I lost my mind. Still can't find it. For the quality/quantity you get the prices are just dumb. This tiny little place is AMAZING!! You walk in and are always greeted by smiling happy employees who seem to actually enjoy their job. This is hard to find in Gainesville. The music is always right on point. Sometimes i stay a little longer just to listen to the amazing mix they always play! You start by picking out how you want your meal. Burrito,bowl tacos salad nachos. They have it all. Then you pick what type of meat you want. So simple and easy? They even have numerous veggie options. My girlfriend loves them all. All the meats taste great by themselves and the staff even encourage you to try a free sample of meat just to make sure you will like it. They have so many fresh toppings and sauces they make in house. I've been there 133 times! I know this because i check in every time and every tenth visit i get a free burrito! Anyone complaining about the veggies not being fresh is most likely working for a competitor. I have never seen anything but the freshest veggies there. They are always piled high and the station is always clean. Unlike some other burrito places i no longer visit.They say they prep veggies at least twice a day and i believe it. Sometimes you can even smell the fresh habenero sauce while they make it in the back. The guy who made my burrito(i think he is the owner) even guaranteed me i would like the sauce he suggested or he would by me another burrito! He didn't have to because as soon as I took that first bite and tasted the amazingness that is pink zinger i was a little weak at the knees. He said he's never had to buy anyone a burrito and i believe that too. This place also has the quickest moving line no matter what time you are in there. Don't be afraid if they are lined up out the door because it will never take more than ten minutes to get your delicious food. One time i was in and out in under 3 minutes!! It takes that long at subway just to get the employees to acknowledge Im there. Overall this place is just great. The music the staff the atmosphere even the other customers in line are awesome. This was my first time but my husbands 3rd, in the beginning it's overwhelming with all the choices they have but as you go down the line, first the meat then the toppings. You choose what & how much I might add and you end up with this humongous burrito! They have signature sauces and toppings that are made on a daily basis so they're fresh and delicious. I have to say that their guac was a great combination of smoothness with fresh cilantro and oh so dreamy. They also have a white queso sauce that was creamy and well seasoned. In order to appreciate everything they have to offer it requires a trip back or two or.....at least once a week so you can find the burrito (or salad) that you can call your own. The building may be small and the tables on the (noisy University Ave) side but if you're in good company and have great food it doesn't matter. The prices are also a bonus, the two of us had our own burrito and with tip (jar next to register) it was only $15! Definitely our 'go to place' when we don't want to (or have time) cook. The magical experience all begins with the walk up to the quaint establishment; precious fairy lights grace the fence and an outside heater warms my buns as pass the brightly lite 'open' sign. As I enter the restaurant, a mature look man greets me and offers me a free guac card and a beer because he loves all his customers. As an old (for Gainesville) guy I'm constantly whining "if I ordered this many toppings, why didn't they sparse them out so that I can eat my burrito without a fork?" Anyway, despite the double-dog-dare-size burritos, an unfortunate brand name (exclamation point? actually famous? English words and Spanish grammar?), and exterior decor (bright green that screams "WE SELL FOOD"), this place is probably the best Mex food in town. The salsa is literally a pile of fresh veggies and herbs that might be chopped to order, it's that fresh. The queso is so rich and creamy that it should be on the cover of a soft-core erotic novel. The sauces are great, there are loads of optional toppings, and the meat is always juicy and well-seasoned. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I wanted to give them room for improvement, cuz wouldn't it be amazing if a really good restaurant went ahead and got even better on their own volition.
