This place deserves way more attention than it gets. Tucked in downtown Bridgeport with easy street…read moreand garage parking nearby, 29 Markle Court walks in with serious style -- the decor is chic, the atmosphere is warm and cool at the same time, and it genuinely feels like somewhere you'd expect to find in a much bigger city. Drinks first: my slightly dirty martini was made exactly right. My friend went with cosmo and it was equally on point. Whoever is behind that bar has their act together. Then the food happened. We started with grilled bread with an EVOO, agave, and chile dip -- sounds simple, ate like a statement. The char on the bread, the heat and sweetness of that dip. Good sign of things to come. Main event: shrimp and grits. Guinea flint grits, spicy red sauce, sage, stock. I don't say this lightly -- this is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The grits were creamy and rich, the sauce had real depth and heat, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The whole bowl just worked on every level. Dessert: goat cheesecake with pistachio dust and berry compote. Tangy, creamy, not too sweet, and that pistachio dust on top was a perfect finish. We cleared the plate.

Finally got around to trying 29 Markle, twice…read more Everything sampled was great. Service was good, though a little more knowledge on the menu would've been nice. The chef owner came out personally to check on everyone. We will be back.

Between 3 and 3.5 stars for me. Came two weeks ago on a beautiful Saturday night. Sat outside which…read morehas a nice view of boats and...Bridgeport Ampitheater. Rob Thomas was playing there that evening! lol holy flashbacks. Started with the Caesar salad and initially we said side salad so our waiter must have put that through but then we quickly changed it to the main Caesar so we could share it. I also ordered the Lobster ravioli and the man got the salmon. A few minutes go by and out comes the side Caesar salad from a food runner. Place was packed so they have food runners and bussers here. We then had to find our waiter to tell him he/they messed up. About ten minutes later the main Caesar comes, we are finally enjoying that and out come our hot entrees about a minute later. I HATE when entrees come while you are still eating your appetizers/salads or not even done with your drink. This is a sign of poor service/communication with the kitchen or just an incredibly overbooked restaurant and therefore; service suffers. Entrees-the Lobster ravioli came with ONE ravioli (Pictured). A lot of seafood comes with this dish which was very delicious and I was hungry so I ate 99% of it and then our server came over to ask how it was so I told him it was good but it only had one ravioli. It was more like a cioppino dish than a ravioli dish. He was so nice and said I'm going to send out another dish with more ravioli. I was pretty full so I didn't need more food, but I gladly took it home as it was very tasty. Man said the salmon was ok. Not the best. We then stayed for the band and they were phenomenal. They kept the sound under control so it wasn't blasting with customers having dinner. We decided to go over there after dinner and hang out. I will say the space for bands is very small. It's in the corner and there are tables awkwardly around the band and really no place to stand and watch the band unless you're around the corner. Strange setup but we had a blast. Food very tasty but I have to say I agree with the low ratings on this place because a lot of mishaps occurred.

First impression, there was someone smoking weed in the parking lot. Fine if that's what they want to do, but not the place for it. I walked in the restaurant, stood by the "wait to be seated" sign for a few minutes, then decided to go to the bathroom. Came out, waited again for about 10 minutes, bartender saw me and just turned his back. So, obviously, this place is not for me.

Such a cute little spot in downtown Fairfield by the theatre. I just snagged a drink one afternoon…read morewhile walking around but I absolutely loved the feel of the space. I wasn't hungry but the menu looked delicious and my drink was excellent. The bartender was very attentive and although it wasn't busy then, I heard them answer calls for reservations constantly while I was there. Def coming back hungry next time! .

"Like whippets, they dance in a curly-queue dance Of pulses…read moreand ringing and campfire chants Birds of a feather are flocking outside" (Phish) There are so many nice restaurants in Fairfield, picking one for lunch can be a formidable task. But because it was so cold today, we picked one close to the train station for our lunch for three, and it turned out to be a great choice after our meal at Ryebird. Their website describes Ryebird as "A Neighborhood joint where friends and family meet" and that seems pretty much spot-on. The bar is gorgeous, the dining room is beautifully decorated with red painted walls, dark distressed wood tables, and stainless-steel colored chairs. The service was great, I mean outstanding. Our server Leo was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. We had a few conversations with Manager Thomas who was very charming and a real joy to talk with. And I haven't even gotten to the food yet! OK, here we go! Our party of three went with a small Chicken Soup for The Soul with Cheesy Bread ($14) for me. What's Cheesy Bread? Well, how about three toasted pieces of gooey pizza bread topped with a feta spread and olive oil. My brother-in-law went with their Daily Pot Pie ($23 for Chicken today), with a house-made buttery crust, scratch-made filling, and an added $4 up-charge for a gravy boat full of mushroom bourbon gravy. My wife went with a Roaster sandwich ($18) of pulled chicken, cheddar, BBQ sauce, pickled onion, on a baguette served with fries. We also had an order of Lemon Chili Zucchini ($9) for the table. The food was wonderful, as both the pot pie and the sandwich were devoured. My soup was a pretty big bowl for a "Small" but was loaded with more carrots and celery than chicken. I asked our server Leo if they had any hot sauce, and he asked me how hot did I want it? Ryebird has a few different types in increasing levels of hotness. I asked for the max, and he brought out a little ramekin of some of the hottest hot sauce I ever had. It was pretty much at my upper level of tolerance. I chatted about it with the restaurant manager on the way out, and he was pretty sure it was made with Ghost Peppers, so that explained my thermonuclear mouth numbing reaction. Anyway, we loved our visit to Ryebird. Their food is reasonably priced, portions are generous, the quality is high, and the service is exceptional. What more do you want in a Fairfield County lunch?
