we have been coming here since they opened. they have steadily been going down hill and today was the icing on the cake. along with the fact that they don't operate during their hours that are advertised, they also don't make orders that are called in and proceed to tell you you never placed the order. Then when you show the call log that you did in fact call they say that number doesn't work. which is weird considering I spoke to someone. So when you dial again and it rings right in front of them they seem surprised. This was the last straw after declining food, declining service and increasing price for less. I went there for the first time with my boyfriend yesterday and it was a intresting experience. The girl that was up at the front taking orders was nice but she really didn't seem to know anything about the menu and just kept referring us to the screen. We ended up ordering 2 burritos and the loaded nachos, the total was around $50 after tax so not too bad for today's economy. They made the food really fast, maybe about 10 mins in total. We went up to grab the food and just from looking at it I was unsure. The nachos literally only had barely melted cheese, tons of sour cream and a good amount of chicken, but nothing else you would expect in LOADED Nachos. No tomatoes, no onion, no cilantro, no guacamole, no queso sauce nothing. You have to walk up to there to the "salsa bar" and pick from the very little toppings and sauces they had. The topping looked old, and the sauces were so insanely spicy besides the mango salsa. To me it's just crazy to charge 15.99 for nachos that you have to completely build yourself and you might even want to bring your own topping for the authentic Mexican experience. Moving on to the burritos, my classic burrito was unfortunately only had plain just rice, chicken and sour cream inside, no sauces, nothing else no lettuce, no tomatoes, no cilantro, nothing. My boyfriend got the fajita burrito and said it was really good so at least that was worth it. Other than everything else was just extremely bland, and slathered in sour cream. You can tell that this place has the potential to be awesome they just need some more authentic recipes and spice. The place its self was really pretty and spacious although the music was playing so loud it was borderline disorienting, you'll find yourself screaming to speak to anyone you might be sharing your meal time with. Mex on main has the potential to be a great authentic Mexican spot in CT but it's just not really worth the money or the time to go out, when you can make better food for cheaper at home. ‍‍ read more

We arrived around noon and there was only one other table eating at this cute, small restaurant. The restaurant was clean, tidy and we received a smile from the server behind the counter. I decided to try the Taco Salad and upgraded to steak for the protein. Johnny tried the blackened chicken burrito. So, orders placed and paid for, we go to sit down. For drink options, there really aren't many. There is a small glass case offering water and sodas, that's it. We grabbed our yeti's from the car and just drank our own waters. The food order once complete was yelled out loud (we are still one of two, 2 tops in the restaurant. Personally, I would have brought our food out but whatever. Mex on Main has a lovely salsa bar, probably the best part of our experience. Several different sauces (mild, medium and spicy as well as a green verde delicious sauce. Some tomatoes and onions marinated and pickled jalapeños. Please offer fresh jalapeños in the future. Johnny's blackened chicken burrito was pretty tasty. The chicken was cooked beautifully and moist and tender, but a little less chipotle sauce would be appreciated as just so much. Overall a solid B+ for the burrito. The steak taco salad sadly was not a star. They use iceberg lettuce and not much of it, some black beans, grated very cold cheese lol, a few tomatoes guacamole and sour cream. It's a small salad also so do not order it if you are very hungry. Honestly without the salsa bar, it was a sad fail, but after I added some spicy red salsa, some cholula it was better. This restaurant has the right idea, but needs tweaking. To fix the steak taco salad, we recommend a mixed bag of lettuce (baby spring mix and plenty of it) fresh jalapeños, cilantro, true pico (lime, fresh jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, cilantro), black beans or borracho beans, with the salsa of your choosing. The burrito was good, just less chipotle sauce and it would be cravable. We are definitely coming back because we are hoping it's a gem in the making. read more

So delicious! I always get the Chili Lime Salad and no matter the protein it's fresh, delicious, and so filling. Easy to get to in Trumbull. Delivery is always faster than they say, and friendly when ordering in person. The restaurant itself is cute too if you stop in for a bite and always clean and organized at the counter with fast service. Great variety and local Mexican food. Small little restaurant in a shopping plaza type of area plenty of parking. It is more like a fast food type of restaurant there are tables that you can sit and eat at but you order at the counter and wait for your food to come and then you sit down. We had a burrito bowl, taco salad and chicken burrito and churros. The taco salad was ok they use the same shredded lettuce for tacos as they do for salsa so the salad got quite mushy. The quac was very mushy too like it was squeezed out of a bag. We also order queso and chips I think this was the best part of the meal. Queso had a medium kick to it and was very nice and creamy and the chips were homemade. The burrito bowl was ok the chicken was good but the rice was super so dente. The chicken burrito was good but a bit small. Churros we're almost not edible as they were extra crispy and I feel they sat out a while maybe under a heat light. I lived for several months in the heavily Mexican parts of Brooklyn. The food there was to die for ordering from a whole staff who spoke no English. The street food is legendary. I had to learn their lingo to get the cool chef's dishes. This reminds me of that. It's not as good or unique, but it's one of the few places locally where you can get proper Mexican food. I'm not really sure what Tex Mex means in this context. I feel that is marketing to appeal to the locals thing. To me it tastes... well, genuine Mexican. Simple classic flavors and simplicity goes a long way with quality ingredients and preparation. Their classic burrito looks nothing like an Americanized one. Compare it to Chipotle, it's tiny. Far from it. It's Mexican and holy crow is it dense in mass and the flavor blows the chain stuff out of the water. Looks are very deceiving. I know, I ate the thing too fast and well. I don't regret it. Takeout service is quick. Have never dined in. The beauty of the internet is I can edit my opinion. It is not as good as I had initially. I don't know what the philosophy of the management is but they don't understand quality. That I know. Take is as far as you want. If you care about your establishment you should eject your owners and take it on the severe challenge for yourselves to do a good job. It's sad that the personnel aren't part or want to be part of the community. You're really setting yourselves up for failure if you want that West Coast San Francisco or Seattle vibe. I'm giving Mex on Main 3 stars because while their food tastes good and fresh it is most definitely just "there". I ordered a mex taco salad and it came in one of tortilla bowls. While the ingredients were fresh I was severely disappointed by the amount of ingredients and lack of flavor. The majority of the bowl was iceberg lettuce. I felt like I was a rabbit. Black beans, cheese, guac, and sour cream over lettuce. Where's the tomatoes? Where's the corn? Add some rice ffs. The dressing was also meh. Not enough to cover the entire salad and therefore I was eating plain lettuce by the end since there were hardly any of the main ingredients. I had the same issue with their burrito. Fresh ingredients but hardly anything in it and lack of flavor. I am constantly disappointed by this place and it makes me sad. I wish I liked this place more. I have been here many times now and I would not say they are dreadful or anything but I am not wild about them. I have tried with the nachos but I do not love the cheese they use and maybe it is just that I prefer my nachos prepared differently. For whatever reason, I am not wild about them. Their Tacos are not bad. And they offer outdoor seating which can be nice in the summer. They are a pretty small place although there are a few tables inside. It has a little decor but not much. I do not have Mexican on a regular basis but when I do I prefer a bigger place that's heavy on the atmosphere. The one thing I will say about Mex on Main is they are very reasonably priced and do come in handy as a quick to go place. read more

I visited with my son and husband on 10/1/2020 and I had two shrimp tacos, my husband had a chicken burrito. Starting with the shrimp tacos, the shrimp was cooked and flavored well. I didn't expect it, but my order came with a side of rice and beans that were both as bland as bland could be. Zero flavor so i passed on it (both went straight to the trash). The black beans were clearly served heated STRAIGHT from a can! Not even a pinch of salt or seasonings were added. When there is a "mexican" restaurant, you explect a certain flavor profile and some color in your food. The rice and beans had neither-believe me! We tried to jazz it up with their sauces..no avail. The sauces even tasted like an inauthentic, watered down mess... Now, my husband's burrito....bland.com. The chicken looked dry, it lacked flavor as well. They should stop calling this food Mexican and just say it's Mexican inspired..take it from someone who's been to Mexico, who has eaten at many mexican restaurants in the US. Not to mention, the staff were rude to him when he went inside to order, the women hung out laughing and talking in the back and ignored him when he politely said "hello, how are you? I've been here several times. In an area with few food options, this is... an option. It's not bad food. It does seem fresh. But it's also not all that flavorful. For Mexican food, that is a travesty. That's basically the place. It exists. It is frequented by people like me who have been everywhere in the area and want to have something different for lunch. Now, workers on their phone, speaking unprofessionally to customers, etc. For restaurant week, their deal was a free empanada with a $10 purchase. I spent over $30 so thought I'd get three empanadas. Placed an uber eats order that was wrong. It was wrong because I do not eat beef. And I was given beef instead of chicken on my nachos. Instead of a simple "we will reimburse you" the poor girl who answered the phone had to go back and forth to the manager on duty who simply would not pick up phone for me. Turn off your uber if you can't keep up. I am in restaurant industry and this is a huge mistake To not CARE about the customer calling. Birthday lunch treat from my friends at work! It's always a great experience when colleagues take the time to recognize one's milestones. This was a convenient location close to work with clean, colorful, interior at friendly efficient staff. It's not the best Mexican food I have had in this area. I was shocked that my shrimp fajitas were not served sizzling hot on a skillet. But they were still fresh and tasty. The red sauce in my picture had a really nice spicy kick! Remarkably the most bland and tasteless meals we ever ordered. It makes Chipotle offerings comparable to that of a Michelin's star restaurant. Their burrito was terrible. I live in Trumbull and was SO excited to have local Mexican food in town. Unfortunately every time my family and I visit, the employee behind the register is extremely miserable and makes zero eye contact. Even with that aside, the part that is very upsetting is the fact I have ordered takeout twice and both times the orders have come back wrong. My daughter has a dairy allergy that I made perfectly clear to the person on the phone and asked politely to make sure there was no cheese on any of her food. I even had the employee repeat it back to me, yet both times I returned home to find melted cheese on her food. My mom and I came here for lunch and sadly was a little disappointed. You walk in and I have to admit the music is very fun and lively and I was excited to try the place. However, when we walked up to the counter the cashier had no smile on his face and barely talked to us. It seemed like he just did not want to be there. And it just ruined the mood completely. As you walk passed the register there is a salsa bar. I'm sorry to say but it was not great. There are no labels so you have no idea what you are trying. A mediocre experience all around. The first put off for me is that there was no vegetarian offering under the burritos. They did a offer to remove the meat and replace it with "vegetables", which I thought was a kind gesture. However, those vegetables turned out to just be sauteed green peppers and onions. Not very interesting. Basically, no thought was really put into making a palatable veggie burrito.... It's just an afterthought. The burrito itself was very bland as a result. I was able to rescue it by ordering a side of guacamole and using their salsas to give it life. Here's the thing. I'm basically paying more than Chipotle price for a lesser burrito.
