With all the heat this summer (2024), the black tarmac is super hot and the longer I drive the hotter the rubber is. After a recent 50 minute drive the "Check Tires" light on the dash went on. The next day I called Burns and they were able to take a look at the tires the same day. I drove over, handed John the keys and he pulled it into his bay at the rear of the garage. He quickly checked each tire and found that all of them had low psi. He filled each to the proper pressure and was done in 5 minutes. He drove my vehicle around to the front and handed me the key. No charge. I gave him a small token of my appreciation which brought a smile to his face and a strong sincere handshake. They were able to pull a nail and plug the tire immediately when I pulled in. They took the car out for a test drive to make sure all ok, and I was out in about 15 minutes. Very friendly, very efficient. Excellent experience. I'll be back next week for scheduled state inspection. read more

I can't recommend this business enough! Last month, I was quoted over $2,000 to have work done on my car. I thought this was a really high estimate, and knew Burns would give me a fair estimate and do good work. My parents, my brother and I have been taking our cars to Burns since they opened their doors. So, I drove an hour back home to Burns. Burns not only did the work more thoroughly and with cost in mind, but did additional work and STILL came in under the estimate of the large chain auto body shop my first estimate was from. Their service is wonderful and they are happy to educate you about your car. I know I can trust that the work will be quality, quick, and will last. I took 2 different cars there to get inspected. the first car they told me would not pass due to some cosmetic damage which caused a "safety" concern about wind blowing into the engine compartment. I took the car to another mechanic who told me that was a bunch of BS and passed the car for inspection and emissions. The other dealer was AAA auto service in willow grove. My 2nd and last experience was with my BMW. The notified me the car would fail due to 3 different things but they could not fix the vehicle because they didn't have the necessary tools. I was still charged for the inspection as well as a fee for them to 'code' the service engine light. If they knew in advanced that they did not have the tools or experience to work on a BMW they should never have taken the car. ***UPDATE*** After Burns Auto saw the review I left they contacted me, not to express their regret of poor service, but instead to bully me into changing my review to a more favorable one. I stand by my original review and would like to add that contacting a customer and trying to bully them into changing a review is seriously not the way to go. If he would have called and apologized or offered to look at the car again, I would have been more then happy to adjust my review. Insisting that a tap on the bumper was going to cause gas fumes to go inside the vehicle is totally obnoxious. Maybe he wanted the body work job. I was able to get both of the above mentioned vehicles inspected without issue as opposed to what Burns Auto had said. read more

I've been there twice, but won't be back. I had quotes/prices from other shops that had flagged items for future repair; that I ended up getting done at Burns, so I know Burns charges 40-50% more than other shops. They get two stars because they are friendly. The location is convenient for me - I can walk home after dropping off my car. But convenience isn't worth that kind of markup. read more

I got referred to this auto shop from a friend and I am so glad I took his advice! My car was in desperate need for an oil change and although they looked really busy, they took me in right away. They made sure all my fluids were topped off and checked my air pressure to make sure everything was ok. The staff also made me feel right at home. Plus they sell the best brand of gasoline out there SHELL. They helped me out with fogged over headlamps and had them looking new versus buying new at a great savings. I've taken one vehicle to Burns Auto Repair in Newtown, it will be my last. When writing this review, I really did try to make it short and sweet, (unlike my experience at Burns), but because that one visit had so many twists and turns, it was virtually impossible to write a "Readers Digest" version. There is one item I'd like you to keep in mind when reading this review; during the time my vehicle was being serviced at Burns Auto Repair, shop owner Dave Burns Jr. was not working, he was away on vacation. I brought my Ford F-150 pickup truck to Burns in mid-September, 2015 for a state inspection. In regard to the truck, for me, this is a second vehicle, not my "daily driver". Therefore, the mileage I put on the truck each year is limited. To get the full effect of my "Burns experience", we have to step back in time. When the truck was inspected in 2013, the invoice showed the measurements for the brake pads were at 10/32, a little less than brand new. When I had the truck inspected in 2014, some 5,769 miles later, again, according to the invoice, the measurement for the brakes indicated there was still nearly 3/4 of the pad remaining. There were no comments included on the invoice indicating the truck might possibly need brakes for my next inspection. On the final day of December, 2014, I brought the truck to McCafferty Ford for a recall issue. While at McCafferty they did a "courtesy check" of the brakes, battery and tires on the truck. Each item received a comment of "In good condition at this time". When I dropped the truck off at Burns on September 15, 2015, the truck had an additional 7,147 miles from the 2014 inspection, which had been done 14 months earlier. It also reflected only 4,644 additional miles since the recall and "courtesy inspection" at McCafferty. Therefore, I really wasn't expecting any major problems with the brakes for inspection. But I was wrong. I received a phone call from the mechanic at Burns informing me, not only were all my brakes worn down to the point of failing inspection, but I also needed new rotors all around. If that wasn't bad enough, he also told me that my emergency brake cable had been disconnected. Obviously, I was rather stunned by his findings. How could my brakes go from being just fine to flunking inspection in a matter of 7,000 miles? Also, while I'll admit I don't get carried away with the use of the emergency brake; I would be willing to bet a rather large sum of money that I had used it at least a few times in the past 14 months. It seemed to work just fine on those occasions. Plus, wouldn't I have noticed a cable dragging on the ground under the truck? Without knowing Mr. Burns was away on vacation and still a bit skeptical, I had a huge lapse in judgment and told the mechanic to do the work. When the work was completed, two days after drop off, I paid the $1,148.57 invoice and drove away thinking this would be my last time dealing with Burns Auto Repair. I was wrong. The following day, I began to examine the bill and I noticed some odd items and overcharges. I called and questioned the items and charges. The mechanic, who worked on my truck, admitted that he had indeed made some mistakes on my invoice. Furthermore, he stated Mr. Burns normally handles the billing and that's when I'm to learn, (for the first time), that Mr. Burns was away on vacation. The mechanic stated he wasn't totally familiar with the program used to create invoices. WOW...NICE RACKET Upon his return to work, I called Mr. Burns and we discussed my queries. Despite all the proof and information I provided, Mr. Burns not only dismissed my claims, he was actually rather belligerent in doing so. Mr. Burns told me he was made aware of my situation prior to our phone conversation. He was obviously well prepared for my call and ready to defend his mechanic, no matter what. Our conversation went nowhere. Mr. Burns basically called me a malcontent. Yes, this was all my fault. Aside from filing reports with both local and state police, I contacted the Better Business Bureau regarding this matter. After about a month, I received a letter from the BBB stating that Burns hadn't responded to their first two letters. Furthermore, they informed me, because Burns wasn't a member of the BBB, (what a shocker), they, (Burns) weren't obligated to respond. However, a few weeks later, I received another correspondence from the BBB stating that they had finally received a response from Burns, (it was BBB's third attempt). The response was written by the mechanic, the content, exactly what you would expect, a denial of everything. Does the story end there? Of course not. This nightmare comes with a HUGE, GLARING FOOTNOTE: On November 15th, 2015, just two months and 1,500 miles after the state inspection at Burns, where I paid approximately $1,000 for brake repairs, the truck suffered a catastrophic brake failure and had to be towed. A polite and sympathetic pair of mechanics promptly put it on a lift and found the better half of a giant tree branch jammed up in my undercarriage.
