Thankfully I was able to safely slow down and pull over without injury or damage. After assessing the situation, it appeared the trailer may not have been fully seated/secured on the hitch ball during hookup. The lot conditions were also very muddy/soft, which may have contributed to the issue. A passing motorist stopped to help me reconnect and secure the trailer. As soon as I was safely off the roadway, I called Thompson's Garage three times in a row within minutes of the incident and left multiple voicemails explaining what had happened. Not only did I receive no callback that day, but as of two days later I still have not heard from anyone regarding the incident. I understand mistakes can happen, but a trailer detaching on the roadway is a serious safety concern, and the complete lack of follow-up afterward was extremely disappointing.
