John's Auto Care

John's Auto Care

I blew a tire on the highway. While waiting for AAA I googled the closest garage/mechanic, and…read morebased on the reviews and proximity I gave John's a call. The woman who answered the phone was super nice, talked me through how to look for my tire size, and looked to see if they had one in stock- all on the first call since I was in a precarious situation on a median off a busy highway speed merge. I eventually made it to them and they squeezed me into their busy day, repaired the flat on the spot, and patched it instead of upselling me a new tire. The mechanic was fantastic and friendly, the office was also professional and friendly- and you can tell it's a busy place with a long-time solid reputation. Made it back to NYC on my "new" tire and after my first affordable visit to a mechanic lol, I can't rave about them enough! Thanks John's Auto Care for your help today :)

Wow! This business is fantastic start to finish with a lot of kindness, care and detail added. I…read moreneeded my muffler clamp welded as Syracuse streets beat it up till it broke. My son suggested John's as he knows Matt Hallowell, who welds there. (I'll just say Matt makes welding an art form, and he put the factory to shame! When I called the nice gal scheduled me within 2 days of my call, accommodating my appointments and job schedule and helping me to make it happen. We all have those days when the juggle is a struggle, but she made it easy! I overheard a few conversations while dropping off and picking up and I can honestly say everyone goes out of their way to accommodate need, budget, and the people, while providing quality products and service. After all of that, with CDC guidelines they also do more than most. Sanitizing is done constantly in the office, in your car, the pen you sign with the door handles and areas people touch, etc. My car even had a steering wheel cover on it so I know they took care to keep me safe and healthy. I highly recommend them for whatever automotive needs you have. My son is an automotive technician, but if he is not able to take care of my car, I know where I'm going!!

I brought a 2022 Polestar 2 Performance, a rare one in Syracuse to this Big4, so happy with how…read morethey took care of the tire replacement. It was a day-and-night difference from another shop I struggled with that week. In the other shop, I was told that the tire would be ready in next day (not available), then 3 day later (not available again) and a week later. In contrast, Big4 got the matching tire next day. .. really saved my week for this rather exotic car. I saw how they meticulous took care of the car. I asked them to use the exact torque (103 lbs-ft) for the wheel bolts, and I saw they hand fastened each bolt with a torque wrench! Then they put the exact air pressure (42 PSI, I didn't tell them but they got it from the door sticker). This 42 PSI pressure is very important for the safe operation of Polestar 2. Overall, they did everything timely (waiting time was very short), yet handled everything very professionally. Some other notes: ---Customer reception area was spacious, clean and welcoming. That space didn't have any "tire smell" that is commonly found in most tire shops. Actually the door had a sign, "don't bring a tire inside" so I could tell they try to make this space as nice as possible. There were two nice old water paintings decorating the wall, and many photos and the big wooden American flag and Big4 sign. I liked how they decorated the reception. ---I saw a firetruck being serviced at another slot. I didn't know a firetruck could be placed in a private shop like this, and that scene was kind of assuring that even a firetrucks being sent here for service. I am so happy to find this shop, and can recommend it to anyone.

I come at the end of the day to pick up the car and am told they found rubbing on the brake/rotor and fixed it at no charge. As I pull out there is no fix, the same noises come from the front of my car. Waste of my time and two missed days of travel for my job.

I normally don't write negative reviews on Yelp, but Mr. Tire earned it here. Last month I was…read moredriving up to Syracuse from the Hudson River Valley in a Hertz rental car to show my wife around the Syracuse campus, where I went to college. As we approached Cortland, an alert went off that one of my tires had low air pressure. After visiting three service stations with inoperable air machines, we finally found one that was operable. Eventually, I got the pressure back to the right level and took off for Syracuse. The following day, when I started to drive the car, the air pressure alert for the same tire came on again, this time with a much lower pressure than the previous day. I was driving by Mr. Tire and understood they were in contract with Hertz to do tire repairs, so I left the car there and was told they could get to it by 2 pm or so. I had to wait about a half hour before anyone showed up in the customer area. After Ubering back to my hotel, I called Mr. Tire at 5 pm, and they hadn't gotten to it yet. I Ubered back there, and they still had not looked at it. After waiting another 45 minutes, they started looking at it. The technician told me he couldn't find a leak, and he put the pressure back to the right level. I checked an hour and a half later, and the tire had already lost 3 psi of pressure. The following day, I called AAA to come out and put the spare on so I could drive it to the Syracuse airport and exchange cars. When the AAA technician came out, it took him two minutes to find the leak - he had simply sprayed water on the tire, and the pinhole leak was apparent. Overall, Mr. Tire wasted an entire day of my two-day stay in Syracuse and couldn't find a leak that a AAA tech found in two minutes. It was the worst service experience ever! The only upside here is they directly billed Hertz for this nonsense instead of me.
