I heard a lot about this place and finally gave it a try. Wait time was quite long on a Saturday night, but that wasn't unexpected. The "Haus" burger was OK, but not exceptional. Aside from the Brioche bun they use, a burger from five guys or culvers actually tastes better. This burger was also on the small side for $13. I would guess it is around 1/3 to 0.4 pounds of meat. The Fries were OK, but nothing special. If you want nice atmosphere while eating burgers, come here, but if you want a better tasting burger, go to Five Guys or Culvers. read more

OK, Yelpers... this is a great burger joint, if you are familiar with Burger Study (Elmo's Joint) in IndY, this is sort of like that. The burgers use only the best ground beef, with a very creative, but kind of limited list of burgers. That is alright, because I think they strive to make those particular menu items the BEST...every time. I had the American Burger which has bleu cheese and bacon, ordered medium done. I would say it came out more like rare than medium. It was fantastic, I don't mind a rare burger, but if that isn't your thing keep that in mind. I opted for cole slaw over fries. The slaw was fresh, crunchy and tangy...perfection. My Step Dad order his Haus Burger well done, and it was.... but why would you do that to meat??? He liked it though and that is all that was important. My kid had the same burger only with fries and she cleaned her plate! 3rd time visiting but my first time to review. you may ask... Why only four stars then??? Ahem... My mom and Aunt ordered coffee only to be told they didn't have enough mugs to serve them and when other patrons were done they would wash them and bring them a cup. Fine, but they didn't get coffee until we were almost finished eating and they still charged us for coffee. I thought that was kind of unprofessional. Solid fries. Did not disappoint and more importantly their milkshakes would bring any guy to the yard especially the strawberry and the peach. PS they do have a good blueberry one. The burger patty itself is just average, but they hide that with great and unique combination of flavors that you may think never could go together. I usually go for the burger of the month or the Santiago. The fried jalapeños and chipotle mayo give this burger a wonderful flavor. The next greatest thing is that if you are watching your cholesterol intake (lol, I guess a little) you can substitute chicken with the burger patty. It's been a year since we've visited this location thought we'd stop for a bite to eat while visiting our son in Valpo. It was OK nothing to jump up-and-down about. The beer was cold that I did enjoy!! My tacos were so-so they could of used some additional seasoning. My wife's sandwich kept falling apart but that could be because of her pretzel bun; it was old. Of course, we were bothered the whole time by a pesky fly. Therefore, the only thing that we truly enjoyed besides my beer was the appetizer (Parmesan Artichoke dip). read more

Visited this restaurant for the first time last night and it was spetacular! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a very cool and inviting interior and atmosphere and a warm welcome at the reception stand. After analyzing the simple menu, my dinner companion ordered the American Burger and I opted for the Aussie Burger with cheese, bacon and a fried egg. The burgers were spetacular and the buns were perfect, not too hard and not too soft. My friend ordered a side of the three bean chili and I ordered the Southwest Cole Slaw with our burgers. The side portions were large and delicious. While the entrees were great, our appetizer of Parmesean and Garlic Fries was spetacular! A decent sized portion of perfectly cooked french fries topped with grated parmesean, garlic and I do believe a drizzle of truffle oil...spetacular! They were so good that you wanted to eat them bite by bite and enjoy the blend of flavors! Absolutely great! One other item of note is the selection of beers and the service of the beers. I ordered a beer that came shortly after we ordered. That beer stayed cold the entire time I was eating and was cold from the first drink to the last swallow. I highly recommend this restaurant! The patty was real ground beef, and the toppings came as described as in the menu, but it came wet, not moist to the table. So wet that I had to eat it with a knife and fork because the bun was falling apart. The fries it came with were not fresh cut and had no seasonings. Overall a very average meal for a very high price. The bill ended up being, for three people having burgers and no booze, was well over $70 with the tip. My husband ordered a beer and he didn't get it so the food came out and my husband asked if he could have his beer and the girl was very rude and then went to to get his beer and gave him the wrong beer. I needed more water and asked and didn't even respond to me went to the back and got me water but never said a word even when I said thank you. And still, the temp was more like medium well and if you haven't guessed already, the beef just wasn't that good, probably frozen, absolutely not fresh. First things first, the parking situation here is unacceptable. This is Valpo, not the city, there is not a reasonable expectation of public transportation thus you restaurant must have enough parking. In addition, the lack of parking forces people to park on the side of the road, creating dangerous blind spots. That rant out of way, the food was better than average but not spectacular. They Sheboygan (an April special) was very good, as were the curly fries. My wife's "House Burger" was ok. It was not packed and the room was very loud, the only advantage being it blocked out the terrible "techno" music playing out of the incorrectly mounted Bose speakers. And since I had to find a spot and walk to the restaurant after dropping off my wife the hostess asked her if the party was all there, implying that she would not be seated until I got there. I called ahead by 30 minutes and was given a lecture that the orders only take 10-15 minutes and they will not take them early. But they were willing, this ONE time. The atmosphere is great, very classy and comfortable. Our server was amazing and attentive despite being extremely busy. We started with chili cheese fries as an appetizer. I can honestly say that these were the best chili cheese fries I have ever had. They were beautifully plated, the chili was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the fries were just amazing. I cannot say enough about these fries. For entrees we got a Haus burger with a side salad and a Rhinelund with the Southwest slaw. The Haus is the basic burger offered. I added bacon to it. The burger was done to perfect and it is among the best burgers I have ever tasted. The salad was very fresh despite it being December. The dressing was homemade and delicious (I went for the balsamic). The Rhinelund was exceptional with homemade grainy mustard and lots of caramelized onions. It was a great flavor combination. Took the family, and in-laws here, for my Father in-laws birthday. Space and decor is better and more modern than what you would anticipate. Burgers are solid, cooked to order, and juicy. They have a very eclectic menu as it pertains to the toppings, something for everyone. Cajun fries with the dipping sauce are the best, while not giving an overbearing heat, but just enough zing. And the Onion Rings are phenomenal. Crispy enough to bite through and not take the whole onion with you. Have to get the dipping sauce and give that a try. Beer selection is good, and the accompanying glasses from the respective country of origin adds another good mark. All in all, will definitely be back there. Wow. Like it was literally the most amazing burger I've ever had. I came here tonight with my husband, two boys and father-in-law but word of advice, it's not super kid-friendly. Of course, if you have some well-mannered children then go for it but if they are anything like my rowdy and impatient 2 and 1 year olds then you may want to consider going with your significant other or friends.
