Fun Fact Folks: there's a Burgerhaus in Valpo! My husband and I brought our parents and their Hoosier palates here. We knew this would be place that had options both in and out of their comfort zones. My husband's father, a man of simple tastes, sighed in relief when he saw The Haus in all its straightforwardness, while my mother jumped at the chance to eat exotic Haus fries with parmesan and truffle oil. I was in a pretzel bun and chorizo sort of mood, and luckily the Salamanca satisfied both of those cravings. It's a hearty belt buster but worth the calories. Another good addition to Valpo! I'm leaning towards 3.5 stars but I will give Burgerhaus the benefit of the doubt. There weren't too much of a selection when I attended Valpo back in the days. So it's always a pleasure to see new businesses pop up. Our group of nine dined in at the patio on a Saturday evening. Business was rather slow so we had all the attention to ourselves. The burgers were fairly priced at $10-15. Our party ordered the Haus, Rhinelund, Aussie, and Monterey burgers. Each plate was served with a generous side of fries placed within a stainless steel basket. The burgers were juicy and fries were crispy! Suggestions: I was tempted into ordering one of their appetizers (i.e. blue cheese fries), but I restrained myself when I realized each entree also came with an order of fries. A little variation would be good. We dined in the patio area and there were a lot of mosquitoes. It would have been nice if they had set up some mosquito repellent lanterns. We had a 50th Anniversary celebration here 5-4-24. We cannot say enough about how wonderful this restaurant is. The staff is exceptional, the room was beautiful, the food was delicious, every plate a picture that tasted as good as it looked. Everything was served at the same time and hot. Checked this place out on a business trip. I had the Vienna Burger (applewood smoked bacon, beer-braised onions, bacon jam, provolone cheese, arugula) and fries (which I converted to the garlic parmesan truffle oil). Flavor of the burger and fries were really good. If I had one negative to say, it was you could tell the burger was a preformed patty. Handmade patties have a certain texture. You bite them and they just want to fall apart because the meat hasn't been mushed together too much. My opinion is if you're going to claim gourmet burgers, go the extra step and form your own patties. Again, it wouldn't stop me from eating here again, but it would take it up to the next level. read more

Stop for a good burger and some great craft beer! We were visiting my wife's aunt and wanted to grab dinner before heading home and Yelped up The Burgerhaus which was one of the few good restaurants open on a Sunday! We ordered the fried dill pickles (a southern favorite) on recommendation of our waiter. I ordered a Bell's Hopslam and excellent DIPA and my wife had an iced tea. We then ordered some burgers. I had the Vienna and my wife had the Cajun Creole burger with out the bun. We both had side salads with champagne vinaigrette and feta cheese dressings, respectively. The pickles were fresh and crispy with a battered coating which was tasty but I prefer a crispy corn meal type coating. They came with a creamy ranch dressing with complimented them well. The Vienna burger came with a bacon jam with a couple of slices of bacon with cheese and arugula! Very nicely done to me medium well order. My wife really enjoyed her burger that came with shrimp, andouille sausage, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, spicy peppers and chipotle sauce on the side! The side salads were good except for they had two thick cucumber slices that were at least a half an inch thick each that you had to cut with your knife to eat them (minor issue). Food 4.5 While I didn't rave about the fried pickles they were good and it was matter of my preference. The burgers and craft beers were very good. I will say their selection of craft beer is better than most places. I sampled another beer a Three Floyd's Robert the Bruce that was very good as well (I should have had it first as the Hopslam messed up my taste buds. Service 4.5 - Our waiter met us at the door and seated us. He was very pleasant and checked in on us and helped out with both beer and food selection. He unfortunately forgot to bring my wife's to go tea but we had to go and could have reminded him. Atmosphere 4 - Well appointed with nice comfortable booths with warm wood textures. Price 4 - They are a little pricy, but I would god back as the food is worth it! OA - 4.25 - A good place to go for a beer and burger! read more

I wad looking for a simple, easy meal and then home to relax. We started off with the fries made like a taco with steak. And since they make the best shakes in town... we each had a shake. It's typically hard for us to find new places to eat because I have Celiac disease and have to be gluten free. Not only does Burgerhaus have a gluten free bun, it is one of the best I've had anywhere. I had the Baton Rouge, a beef patty with grilled shrimp, andouille sausage, and remoulade. To say that it was impressive, would be an understatement. Every bite was an adventure of flavor and texture. The tender shrimp, the snap of andouille sausage, and the your teeth sank into the perfectly cooked beef patty and veggies. My fiance had the vienna and my mom had the Monaco. My wife and I visited Burgerhaus for the first time yesterday after attending a New Year's party where word got out of their legendary Spicy Black Bean burgers. We were skeptical but gave it a try. Oh my mother of God! are these things delicious. One bite and the wife and I were like ravenous beasts chowing them down. After the first bite we looked at each other, her with big approving eyes, both shaking our head yes, so enraptured in this burger we could not speak. I came here for a late lunch/early dinner with my boyfriend and my parents. The timing was perfect and there were not many people there, so we were seating right away. Our server was super friendly and super helpful. She answered all of our questions we had about the menu and even where the beef is sourced from. I don't eat meat, so I asked about the black bean burgers. I usually love black bean burgers and order them from burger places as long as they are homemade. These were not homemade; even worse, they are from Gordon's Food Service. Yikes. I said no thanks and was prepared to give this place 3 stars tops, but then I ordered a wonderful sandwich. I also asked where the beef is from, fearing that they were frozen patties from Gordon's as well. Much to my surprise (and comfort) they are sourced somewhat locally from a place in Michigan. However, the beef is not grass fed. Yes, even though I don't eat meat I still worry about things like that. I ordered the Mediterranean Portobello sandwich, which had Brie cheese and caramelized onions. It was awesome. The flavors were perfectly balanced and it was one of those situations where I was sad when I finished the sandwich. It came with fries which were seasoned nicely, but I was too focused on the sandwich. Amazing. My dad and my boyfriend both got the Aussie burger and they absolutely loved it. It has a fried egg, bacon, mayo, and lettuce and tomato. My dad had the cole slaw as his side and it was wonderful. Had a bit of a bite to it, too. Yum. My mom ordered the special burger I don't remember what it was called but it had avocado, a bruschetta type topping, and mozzarella. It was also served with giant potato wedges with a tequila-infused sauce. The wedges were really good and my mom was really happy with her burger. Our food came out fast and my drink was never empty. A great choice for a gourmet burger. I ordered the Aussie Burger. It was really tasty. The wife had the BurgerHaus burger. She really enjoyed it. We didn't get the French fries but the salad. It was a great combo. My sons ordered the American cheese burgers and a milk shakes. The shakes were thick and rich. The restaurant is really small. We had to wait for a table. But the wait was all well worth it. They have a small bar that offers a great selection of craft beers. We love coming here when we are in the area. I truly enjoyed the burgers. The regular cheeseburger I had was very tasty but the turkey burgers seemed like frozen patties that my fiancé had! Came in to grab a burger for lunch and like most places in Valpo the parking is kind of limited. When I came in the front door place looked clean and inviting. Had to wait for several minutes to be seated and that seemed to be a on going theme. Seemed it was nobody's job to seat or greet people. Today I had the Aussie Burger medium rare and I upgraded my fries to the Garlic Parmesan for two dollars more. The burger had good flavor and the bacon that came on this burger was awesome however my burger was well done which was a disappointment. The fries where just ok didn't need to spend two extra dollars on them because they didn't really have much taste to them. The restaurant did have a patio for outdoor seating which was nice and they had a nice little bar that had several different craft beers on tap which was a nice surprise. I was kind of surprised on the bathroom size it was just a one person bathroom which was clean just dark. Although I would say the service wasn't that great today and the food was average in my opinion. I will come back and try some of there different burgers and other options. read more
