Stopped by for the first time today. Good bagels are sorely lacking in this area but Buono Bagels was a better option. Having lived in NY most of my life, I admit that I'm a bagel snob so the bagel I had here wasn't special by any means but the owner was kind and had a warmth about him that makes me want to visit again. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese. Bagel wasn't as pillowy on the inside as I would've liked but the taste was decent with enough everything seasoning to make it an actual everything bagel. It had a fair amount of cream cheese, although my spoiled NY taste buds would've prefered a tad bit more. Overall, it was better than Bagel Shack. And since there are no good bagel places around, I'll probably be back. read more

Bagels are small and expensive and the service is slow. The only good thing is it is clean but not worth your money

This has to be THE worst run bagel shop around. 2 people working behind the counter, 6 people on line. First two people order a breakfast sandwich, one from each worker. Now both workers go the griddle to cook the two sandwiches. While the 4 other people on line stand there waiting for two workers to cook two sandwiches instead of one e cooking both and the other waiting on customers. I just walked out shaking my head. I saw other reviews mentioning that this place being overpriced-- yeah it's ALLLLL TRUE! About $4 for a bagel with regular cream cheese, $7.50 (!!!) for a half lb of tuna salad and about $3 for a SMALL COFFEE !!!! Sorry but those prices are rediculous! Save your money. These comments are insane... I come here all the time on my way back and forth to NYC and the bagels/ BECS's are SO GOOD. I usually can't even wait to get home to eat. I have to eat it right in my car and end up finishing the whole thing. The bacon is always perfect. The egg/cheese/saltpeppercatchup/ is perfectly placed together and mellllltsss in your mouth. Service is perfect for a bagel shop and I love that they accept credit/debit cards. I always recommend this spot to people who are commuting into the city. read more

Delicious! We have stopped at this bagel spot multiple times on our way to the city because it is right off of the highway. The service is fast and they have a variety. This visit I got the jalepeno bagel with vegetable cream cheese. It was so good! I have never had vegetable cream cheese... And I must say it's filled with the veggies ! So only get it if you love the veg... Onion, scallions, yellow bell pepper, red bell pepper, I think celery, and more! It was great. Also got a fruit cup and my husband loves to get the Taylor ham with egg and cheese on an egg bagel. Taylor ham is a new jersey thing so he recommends trying it. Okay, here's the deal: I used to work in Ramsey and went there regularly. Since I am absolutely a creature of habit, I would always get bacon & egg on an everything bagel. Fast forward 3 years and I am now in Maywood. My new office is about 10 miles from my old office and Buono bagels is about 1/8 mile from my old office making it damn close to 10 miles from my new office. In that 10 mile span of Bergen County there must be at least 2 dozen bagel joints. On some Saturday mornings I will still make the 20 mile round trip to eat their bacon & egg on an everything bagel. I was here this morning and what I saw blew my mind. They were unloading Rockland Bakery "bagels" into their bins. Rockland Bakery bagels are a 0 on a scale of 1-10; why would you jeopardize your business by serving an inferior product. I asked the guy behind the counter what the deal was and he ignored me. First thing you realize is that there is 3-4 people behind the counter, ready to service this busy location. The taylor ham, egg and cheese is really quite special. This is a good little spot for breakfast or lunch. Driving down Rt 17, all I wanted was a bagel. There were tons on Dunkin Donuts, but their bagels suck so I kept my eye out for a legit bagel place. I stumbled upon this place. The inside is pretty neat. The bagels are behind a glass wall. They had lots of varieties and the bagels themselves were good. They also had the essential cream cheese flavors (e.g. chive and veggie), all the salad types (e.g. potato, egg, tuna, macaroni, etc), and Boars Head cold cuts. I'm writing a review to try to negate 2 lame reviews I read below. The first lame review was about how bagels are unhealthy - so don't eat them or come to a bagel store? I mean, common sense? If that's the best review you got, you're just looking for a reason to gripe. The other lame review is about slow service & how "dunking" donuts up the road is faster. Yes sir, it might be faster but that's bc their "food" if that's what you want to call it, is all frozen & microwaved. I recently came here twice while visiting family. Not sure why they didn't take me here during my past visits bc I enjoyed the food. The bagels are large & fresh. I liked the veggie cream cheese so much I bought some to take home. I also had a BEC bagel & the bacon was crispy, just how I like it. The menu seemed very extensive so you could seemingly always try something new. The prices also seemed fair. This one female employee, she knew my family/my family knew her by name. Unfortunately due to covid, had to take the food to go. I would come here again next time I'm in Bergen county. read more

Great bagels! I've gotten a sausage egg and cheese and their nova lox with cream cheese both are amazing! I live in CT and always pick up a dozen bagels when I pass by, just put them in the freezer and they hold up really well (and better than any in CT). I'm not sure why people are complaining about the wait, it's cooked to order, if you want a fast sandwich go get a frozen egg sandwich from somewhere else that they microwave for you. read more

Buono? Please. I vowed to never go back before they expanded to their new location a few doors down, but my empty stomach took the wheel out of necessity and veered into their parking lot. The line was out the door. It didn't move. I felt like I was on line for a loaf of bread during the depression. Yeah, that slow. As I crept closer, one floor tile every five minutes, I could see the staff creeping just as slow. Zero sense of urgency. Like it didnt matter that the line was 15 deep! You'd get an occasional stare at the line like a deer in headlights. I actually overheard someone (who seemed to be the Manager) make a comment that their toaster must be a "Union Toaster" since it's so slow. Unreal. We are from NY where they make delicious bagels. Every now and then we crave a warm soft cinnamon raisin bagel middle scooped out lightly toasted thin layer of cream cheese with a hefty portion of nova lox topped with sweet onions and tomatos. The whole wheat bagel was fine. I asked for low fat Cream cheese and asked for just a little cream cheese. I got a slab of cream cheese the was very cold. I could live with all the above but not paying $3.70 for a bagel and cream cheese. I should have gone to bagel train in Suffern. The people there are as wonderful as the bagels. I have been buying bagels by the dozen and cream cheese and butter twice a week for the last month. I do this at least 4-5 months a year. In the last 3 weeks the price of butter and cream cheese has increased by $5. I asked to verify this was correct and told each time that "the prices go up." Fine. I was planning on buying anyway. But this morning when I attempted to pay with my American Express card, as I always have for the last 2-3 years, the counter person said to me, quite rudely, " don't you have Visa or MasterCard?" When I told him no he replied that "they reward you very Well but we not us and we pay a higher fee." He reluctantly took my card. If you don't want to take AMEX, then don't. Take the sticker off the door. After this mornings rude and embarrassing episode, I will Never return anyway. Aside from being convenient and on the highway, their food is nothing special. read more

They take the extra time to make sure my order is right, which surprisingly is not something that happens everywhere. I like my bagel toasted extremely dark and they take the time to do so. I only go here when possible, the food is fresh and they have a huge lunch selection of wraps, heroes and salads. A corporate person's dream for a varied lunch selection at an affordable price. Buono's is--hands down--the best bagel place on or around rt 17. They're fast, friendly, and delish. They make their egg and cheese bagel sandwiches the right way (that is, warm and a bit messy).
