My wife and I have eaten her a few times and it's been great every time. Always keep in mind this is a chain and kind of fast food, so don't think this is a high-end, fine dining Italian restaurant. Neither is Pizza Hut or Fazoli's. But, their Italian beef is great so is their spicy chicken and their burgers. The bread they use is always fresh and the fries perfectly crispy and all delivered fast and hot. I'll try their pizza and pasta sometime, but I limit my fast food visits. Bonus, they're open late. Like the meat versions, they dip the vegans slices in a vegan substitute for the "au juice" and it makes for a deliciously sloppy sandwich. Fortunately, they are generous with napkins as well as the contents of the sandwiches. I'm not sure what kind of peppers they used for the spicy version, but I really liked it. There are no issues for me. Beef sandwiches are served many ways. I got mine dipped with sweet peppers and hot giardiniera on the side. The beef at Buona is seasoned well but a bit more on the peppery side than I like. It has that mini burn as you swallow...not terrible, just heartier and heavier than I like. Disclaimer: I've only ever DoorDashed from this restaurant. I've never been disappointed, when you have a taste for Italian Beef this place hits the spot. I appreciate that they know how to baptize a sandwich properly, and that they sell gravy bread on its own. You get a good amount of meat for the price that you're paying. I finally made it in to a local Buona to try their new vegan Plant-Based Italian Beefless Sandwich. It did not disappoint! I also thought the restaurant was super clean and modern. The vegan option is made with Seitan and isn't much different from the real thing. Nice and juicy to soak the bread just right. I had them mix sweet and spicy peppers to top it off. The pizza here always looks good. Taste wise...it's average. Nothing really stands out other than the crust & sauce which is odd because Buona is known for their meat. The Buona bites are interesting, but have no pizzazz. You don't get a taste of the beef which is what you're looking for. There's a variety of spices that hit your taste buds, but that signature Italian beef flavor is lost amongst it. The breading while a nice golden brown is still more doughy than I'd like on the inside. It does however bring a pleasantly crunchy texture. The included sauce is hearty & has some spice as well although it is very watery. The sauce also doesn't mesh with the dish at all. The Buona bites are better off by themselves Crispy Chicken Sandwich - Oh dear, Buena has entered the chicken sandwich Wars as well. I can't imagine how much blood is going to be spilled since their new standalone chicken was pretty dang good the last time I tried it. The chicken sandwich itself is a crispy thin breading with three pickles on a toasted bun. There is a good helping of what's called Buona sauce spilling all over the sandwich. The first bite is almost heavenly. The freshly fried chicken combined with the Buona sauce (which seems to be a modified thousand Island dressing) is just mouthwateringly delectable. In my opinion it beats every other fast food chicken sandwich on the market currently. The sweetness of the dressing perfectly complements the chicken, creating a savory, sweet dish worthy of envy. I was hit by a car in their parking lot last week -- hit & run. The driver sneered & said "sorry" before taking off! Manager said they have "invisible" cameras there when I phoned there to inform them about this! Employees are cordial - but don't get hit by a car there bc then you get treated like YOU did something wrong! One of the best Chicago Italian Beef places around. Not only do they have them they also have a nice selection of other foods as well including pizza. Which actually not that bad for a quick service restaurant. It's clean and great decor that makes it a relaxing and pleasant experience. My one complaint would be that management felt the need to do inventory of the beer cooler instead of helping out the one cashier who had to handle guests that where clearly having ordering issues. The four other parties could hear it so how she didn't is honestly a little mystery. So on that end managers are lacking in that area. Went to Buona for the first time. My experience with the cashier was a bit... awkward? There was a lot going on with the menu and I told the cashier it was our first time visiting. He started off by saying "it's my first time here too" and though it was slightly funny, every question that I asked about the menu turned into a confusing answer. Such as "what is red gravy?" and the answer being "it's gravy that is red." Starting to get a little frustrated I ordered a 5" sandwich the Buona way. It was dry and not very flavorful. I think it would've been better if I got the sandwich "baptized," which is covered in gravy. The lady who was serving the food to our table was helpful though! Oh my...this roast beef sandwich was positively the best roast beef sandwich in all of the "Region" (Northwest Indiana). I tried the 10" roast beef sandwich and had it plain. Having a sandwich tasted plain is where you really can tell. After you had it plain, then if you're satisfied... LOAD IT UP! The awesome thing was that I got to wash it down with a cold beer. That's right... they serve beer. The place was extremely clean, bright and the atmosphere was friendly. I especially loved the "open feel" to the place. Not a lot of half walls and barriers. So, not only was the Buona roast beef sandwich completely "out-of-this-world", but the french fries were fantastic (can't forget about the fries). I have a pretty BIG appetite and with a sandwich, fries and a drink I was good to go.
