I went with the Gary, IN sandwich with double roast beef, American cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo. We also got one not on the menu - which was a special on homemade bread, with mozzarella, pepperoni, tomatoes lettuce - it was amazing. Gotta get more from here! Found this hidden gem as we were passing through on the highway. If you're on I-65 looking for a place to fill up before or after you battle Chicago traffic ... this is your place!! I wish this place was located back home. I'd lunch here regularly! Easy little detour to find this incredible little family owned international grocery / deli counter. The sandwiches are outstanding. The meats and toppings are fresh, and the soup was awesome too. I'd also love to know where they get their bread, as I'd like to buy some in bulk. It was perfect sandwich bread. Great value here, too... as the sandwiches are a nice portion. We had a couple single-meat, cheese and dressing (get their City Sauce!!!!) custom orders along with the "Windy City" Italian beef that was spectacular. Kids meals come with a 4" sub (with plenty of meat) chips and a juice box... at a great price. I also grabbed a "Waveland" chicken salad sandwich to go that I also highly recommend. Easy takeout if you call ahead, but also a window counter and few tables with a TV in the corner if you want to dine in. The international grocery aisles have all kinds of goodies from snacks to candies from all over Europe. We grabbed a few things we'd never seen before to try on the road, and some jars of giardinera that we always grab anytime we're through Chicagoland. Just Wow..this is a hidden gem! The deli sandwiches are amazingly good and fresh and big! Huge selection of different sandwiches on the menu. There's an area where you can sit down and eat too! The place is not only an awesome delii but a grocery store with so many European items at great prices! Their olive oil selection is huge! They have every cheese you could imagine too! My girlfriend highly recommended Sandwich City. Her friend had taken her there before so it was a place we had to try. I arrived on a Friday right after opening. My girlfriend had to have the Crown Point for the City Sauce. I know the City Sauce is some kind of vinegar conglomeration but it makes what is basically a turkey, ham, and roast beef sandwich irresistible. I am a BBQ kind of guy so I debated the Dallas or Houston until I asked about the BBQ sauce. They use Sweet Baby Ray's, which is a good sauce. But I can buy that in a store and put it on my own sandwich. So I went with my next choice, the Philly Panini. This sandwich was more irresistible than the Crown Point. I felt like it was suppose to be sort of like a cheesesteak but so much better with garlic mayo and banana peppers. The roast beef on the sandwich was definitely sliced fresh too! I had potato salad with my sandwich. It was a mustard base and it was all right. Sandwich City has so many sandwiches named after so many different cities. The inside is like a deli with a dining spot. There is also a lot of Greek? food snacks also in Sandwich City. It's on Summit St, on the south side of the street just west of Culvers. It's in a small strip mall, near a rather questionable looking massage parlor. Delicious sandwiches! I had the Rome, which was full of Italian cold cuts, lettuce, fresh tomato and "City Sauce" (which is what they call oil and vinegar) all on a delicious French roll. My partner had a turkey sandwich and the lemon rice soup. We enjoyed all of it, although the soup wasn't really the rave that other folks say it is. It was just okay. Sandwich City is also a store full of imported cookies, candies, cheeses, meats, etc. After lunch, we strolled around looking at all of their interesting wares. The place was busy at Noon on Saturday, with people buying sandwiches but also people just flat out shopping with baskets and carts. It's not a large space, so things can get a bit tight. However, there is plenty of seating. Service was okay. The guy who took our order was great, but the woman who was working with him was a bit short with us when we tried to pay her. Went there twice for lunch while building the new Local 597 Training and Wellness Center in Crown Point. The first sandwich I had was The Crown Point (Roast Beef and Turkey) was ridiculously tasty. The bread was soft and delicious and all the ingredients came together seamlessly. I was excited to try another sandwich on my next lunch. Unfortunately... The Wakefield was pretty much the worst chicken salad sandwich I've ever had. Maybe it was an off day for them but, it was horrendously salty and yet completely flavorless. Only reason I ate the first half was because I was hungry and didn't have time to go elsewhere, the other half was tossed... I'll end on a positive note though, the Broccoli and Cheddar soup is delicious. For me, it's worth another go sometime but, for now, I'm gonna put it in the middle at a solid 3. read more
