Yesterday morning (October 3rd, Saturday) I dropped my car off at a Hyundai dealership. When lunchtime rolled around, I went to an Italian restaurant about a 4-minute drive away to grab lunch with my mom and one of my brothers. However, two of my brothers had to participate in a parade for a Korean festival in LA that afternoon, marching with the Korean flag (Taegeukgi). My mom absolutely had to be there to take photos and videos of them (I did it last year, but she decided to do it this year). Since my mom had gone to the dealership with me, my brother came to pick her up. Because they were so pressed for time to prepare and get to the event, there was no time we could sit and eat at the restaurant, so we ultimately decided to get our food to go. First, my mom said she only wanted some clam chowder (she decided this after the waiter listed the soups of the day and the menu). So, we ordered that for her to eat at the restaurant and asked the waiter to pack the rest of our food to go. Our waiter's name was Eddie, and he was unbelievably kind. From the moment we walked in until we left, he was incredibly friendly. My mom said the clam chowder was the absolute best she had ever had, which made me really happy to hear. After that, I ordered the Chicken Piccata to go, and my brother got a Chicken Panini. (Before ordering, I asked if the Chicken Piccata would take long; he said it would be quick, so I went with my favorite.) While we were waiting for the food, the waiter came over to our table again to let us know that the kitchen knew we were short on time and they were working really hard to get it out fast. My brother then asked how long the restaurant had been around. The waiter replied that it had been open for 35 years and had changed ownership three times, adding that people say the current, third owner is doing the best job so far. By the time I came back from the restroom, our to-go food was ready. But when we got to the car, I noticed that both of the piping-hot dishes were packed in one large bag. I went back inside to ask for an extra bag, and Eddie very graciously and quickly handed me one. He was just the kind of person who makes you feel good. He truly understands what proper customer service is, and I really want to give him a big shout-out. Also, when he first brought the bill, there was a $1.45 credit card surcharge included. I asked if he could remove it if I paid with a debit card, and he happily agreed. I handed him my debit card, asked him to take off the fee, and he brought the updated receipt right back. The atmosphere of this restaurant is great, the service is incredibly kind, and the food is delicious. It's definitely a place I want to visit again whenever I have the chance and the time. I took my to-go Chicken Piccata back to the dealership and ate it at a table there. My brother and mom ate in the car on their way to the event, so I didn't have time to take a picture of the panini. read more

I absolutely loved this place. It's down the street from my house and I'm so happy I found it. Had the pleasure of being helped by Victor he was amazing. I started off with the east side martini and they made it perfectly. My friend and I shared the margherita pizza and the pasta trio. That pasta trio was absolutely amazing. Great flavor great pasta I loved it. Pizza was great too Dessert we got tiramisu and Spumoni and that was gooooooooood. I'll make this as quick and simple as I can. The service was great. The waiter came up to us quickly, made sure to get our order and thought out the whole time made sure everything was good with us. Now comes the food part. I saw reviews claiming that this is the best Italian food they've ever tried! Let's be honest, this isn't even close. I've had better pizza at dominoes, the chicken Alfredo literally had zero seasoning to the point where my 6 year old said this is tasteless. The only decent thing was the spaghetti and meatballs. I would probably never come back here again, it was near the area we were in so I gave it a chance. For a pizza, spaghetti and meatballs and a kids Alfredo we paid 75 bucks. I'd say try La Bella pizza if you're looking for Italian. read more

Mmmm, it was just an ok experience. Service was fine, but the food was just largely forgettable. Perhaps it was a little unfair for me to ask for a pasta dish that was in one of the Yelp photos but has since been taken off the menu, but I just felt underwhelmed by my Farfalle alla Buon Gusto. A pasta dish that shares the name of the restaurant should wow me, but in the end, it was the artichoke and the black olives that did the heavy lifting. The sauce lack distinct flavor, other than being quite oily. The Chicken Marsala that my dad got was a bit better at least. The chicken breaat was tender, the marsala wine sauce was an improvement, and the pasta tasted good. Lastly, the espresso was fine. A subtle sweet dark chocolate with a hint of bitter that suggests a dark roast. Not a lot of nuance, but a pretty good, straightforward cup nonetheless. read more

Buon Gusto means good taste in Italian. Nice strip mall osterìa. Adequate wine list featuring good Italian wine varietals. Large dining room for our group dining of 21 guests. 1) Well executed Calamaretti Fritti of small firefly squid some that are meaty rings and others that are the head-mini tentacles. Light, crispy batter, and oil that they are fried in is fresh and sweet. Accompanied by a thick Salsa Marinara (mah ree nah rah) and wedge of lemon that I squeezed into the sauce instead of directly on the Calamari to preserve its crispness. 2) Meat Lasagna is big, almost good enough for a meal. Well constructed with almost al dente, chewy, thick, corrugated sheet pasta. Good slug of white Ricotta & stretchy Mozzarella. Clumps of ground beef and an acidic, bright red tomato Salsa Marinara that was a good foil to the heavier ingredients. (Couldn't vouch it was a Salsa Bolognese which is a meat sauce cooked for hours into a brown sauce finish. ) However, Buon Gusto pulled through with a very nice Southern Italian version of an iconic Piatto Italiano. 3) Veal Mona/Vitello a la Mona: The veal is covered with flour and gently pan fried. It's to the cook's credit that the veal was not overcooked into stiff, dry, mealy cardboard. It was moist, firm yet had a plushness. Sauce was a sweet Marsala wine sauce which was OK. Perhaps a light acidic red wine sauce with an herbal infusion would have been a better pairing. Still a better executed veal than at other Ristoranti. Nice medley of carrots, zucchini, broccoli that seemed slightly steamed and then sautéed in a light oil. Capellini d'Angelo/angel hair pasta was the main carb. 1-2a) Montepulciano d'Abruzzo: Red wine with a juicy, high dark blackberry factor with a pepperiness. Light in bitter tannins. Higher acidity to refresh the palate. Good pairing for tomato based Italian food. Food at Buon Gusto may not be Alta Cucina Italiana like Vivi in North Hollywood nor Grano in Duarte, but more than acceptable for those seeking a good meal at a reasonable price that doesn't break the bank. 4- stars read more

Wow has this place gone from meh to terrible. Made a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday. Walked in to a restaurant that was 2/3 empty. Stood for a while with no greeting. Then the woman seemed put off that we were asking to be seated and put us right next to the kitchen even though the place was empty. Service was expectedly slow and their air conditioning couldn't keep up so it was hot. Waitress was odd and unfriendly. House white wine was awful. The entrees were all overcooked, chicken and shrimp dishes. Everything was flavorless. Even the bread rolls were stale and dry and never refilled. 4th visit. Will not return. read more

We came to Buon Gusto for the reception after our friend's funeral. We were greeted by a wonderful staff. I actually was wondering how well things we're going to go with as many people we had in our party along with them having their regular customers. It went very well. In particular, we were blessed to have Edwin as our server. He was super attentive and so friendly. While my wife and I live quite a distance away in Whittier, I can actually say that we would be happy to come back when we're on the area based on Edwin's amazing service. Stumbled upon this place by chance. It was right off the freeway which was very convenient. Surprisingly the food was delicious and the service was excellent. A really nice little hole in the wall spot in Mission Hills. We came in for dinner and had the Chicken Marsala and the daily special, which had shrimp and noodles with a kind of licorice-flavored sauce (very interesting and unique!), and both were very good. The chicken was tender, and the Marsala sauce was rich and flavorful. The special was fresh and light. If I had any comments on the special, it would be that I felt a little hungry still at the end of the meal from my order of the daily special. It came with 6 shrimp and about 2/3 of the pasta I would have expected at a family-style Italian restaurant, and I felt like it needed at least a few more shrimp and more noodles to get me a little fuller. The vibe in the restaurant was cozy and inviting. The music was classic and fun. It felt like the perfect backdrop for a relaxed dinner. The service was low-key and easygoing, and they were great about checking in on drinks without overdoing it. One of the highlights was the little heart-shaped breads they brought out before the meal. Was looking for a place that served great Italian yum yums and this place popped up due to the great reviews. Its situated in its own corner, parkingvmay be a little tight but i think you can park on the side street right next to the resturant. The inside is really nice, with a romantic vibe to it. We didnt have to wait at all and were seated quickly. Our server patti was very warm and friendly and took our orders and brought some nice fresh bread, and continued to check on us and refill our drinks. I got the meat lasagna which the portion was pretty big. The wifey got the seafood soup or gazpacho which she said was very flavorful. The kiddos got the picata chicken and spaghetti.
