A hidden gem in plain sight! I have been here a couple of times now, once for lunch and tonight for dinner. The place is rapidly ascending the list as one of my favorites. Before I get too far, the Oysters Rockerfeller are incredible; simply the best I personally have had with the right balance of oyster, cheese, spinach and whatever glorious goodness the chef used to create this magical culinary delight. They only thing better was the service. God forgive me as I did not get the young waiter's name, although he told me the first time. A young twenty-something who recites the list of special appetizers and entrees, no less than 18 combined, from memory and with a flair the makes each sound better than the last. He remained at your beck and call, but never pressured anyone for time. Truly a family-style atmosphere well worth the trip. The veal chop special was cooked perfectly, as was the accompanying broccoli rabe. A sampling of the Chicken Marsala and Spaghetti Bolognese were worth the nibble as well. I heard the Halibut Marechiarra was delightful. Followed up with Tiramisu (magnificent), Lemon Sorbet (sublime, not sublemon) and some Zeppoli (gratis) for good measure. We just had mom's 85th birthday party this weekend. Everyone at Buon Amici did an outstanding job to make her day special. Nick, Stephen and owner Chris always make her feel like a queen. She has trouble getting around these days and the guys helped her in and out of the car and on the stairs. Everyone who attended raved about the food and service which was no surprise to me. I continue to drive over 50 miles to eat at Buon Amici when I want great Italian food. I also eat at places in Manhattan and on Arthur Ave in the Bronx but this is my favorite hands down. If you are looking for a place to have a party for 10-50+ look no further as the owner Chris and his well managed team will bend over backwards to show your group a fantastic time. I've eaten here several times, but after tonight's experience, I won't be returning. The food is usually pretty good with a few misses here and there, reasonable for the price. The interior is old and tired. What was completely unreasonable was being kept waiting at the table for a half hour before we flagged down a manager to tell us the specials, and after ordering, waiting for another hour for our food. The olives on my boyfriend's salad were rancid, but the main course was okay. To compensate us for being held captive for more than two hours, a manager poured a free glass of $11 wine, which I didn't want and didn't drink. Profuse apologies didn't make it better. I have been to Buon Amici for many occasions. It has been my boyfriend's family's "Go-To" spot for birthdays, family dinners, and just a good meal. You know when you are going there, you will get great service, a delicious meal, and leave feeling stuffed beyond belief! The owner, Chris is always there to greet us, and couldn't be any more friendly to all the patrons at his restaurant. We always know that our favorite waiter, Nick will be the one at our table, and we can count on great service! When going to Buon Amici, you NEVER order off the menu. The menu has the traditional Italian specialties that you can order at many Italian restaurants, but the Specials of the day are what you order when you come here! They are always different that amazing! The one thing you can always count on is the Burrata! I have an addiction to wedge salads due to the blue cheese and bacon piled on top of them! The one at Buon Amici was just as good as I was hoping. It actually had Gorgonzola crumbles instead of the normal blue cheese crumbles, with blue cheese dressing to add a different flare to this salad. My boyfriend's favorite item on any menu is the Burrata! The burrata at Buon Amici is hands down, his FAVORITE burrata of any restaurant! We always listen to the specials menu, waiting and hoping they will say burrata, and luckily they always do. A trip to Buon Amici without it wouldn't be the same! It is the creamiest burrata there is, and it just melts in your mouth! At this most recent visit, the specials menu had Stuffed Zucchini filled with mixed vegetables. Based on the description, it sounded like a lot of vegetables, but it was absolutely divine. It was so flavorful and was covered in cheese and sauce, almost like a new take on eggplant parmigiana, but it was Zucchini Parmigiana! I wish I could have some now. This is a dish, I definitely may try to tackle in the kitchen myself. This year, soft shell crabs were a new thing for me. After trying them for the first time, I could not have enough. I have mostly had them prepared with Old Bay and grilled, or in a buttery sauce, but never have I had them as good as Buon Amici! There were crusted in a light flour, with almonds, and served with mixed vegetables. The sauce they were in was a white wine sauce that was just so flavorful and light. If I could relive this meal, I totally would! For the meal, we ordered the veal chop, which was flavorful and meaty, that's for sure! We liked the description of two of the dishes from the specials menu, and asked if we could combine them, and Buon Amici was more than willing to accommodate us. We wanted the veal chop from one of the dishes, but wanted it paired with the pappardelle instead of just plain veggies. The pappardelle was supposed to originally be paired with ossobuco, but we really wanted the veal chop instead, and we got what we wanted! :) For dessert, I am a sucker for a warm chocolate lava cake. I ordered the chocolate bomb, which ended up being just that! It was paired with coconut ice cream, which was soooo refreshing and so delicious! Another dessert at the table that was very interesting was pineapple sorbet served inside of a pineapple. Not my favorite, since I am not a pineapple lover, and tend to think its a very sour fruit, but I know that everyone at the table LOVED it! I highly suggest visiting this restaurant if you are in White Plains. It is low key, casual, and very good for groups. It will be a meal to remember, and one to celebrate a special occasion at. For some reason my post appeared to come out of SoMa San Francisco, CA. Definitely a NYer. Just checked and the entire post is gone. Giving it one more shot. On October 18 our family celebrated my mother's 98th birthday at Buon Amici in the private room off the main dining room. Eddie and Richie were our servers. As Eddie told us about the specials, he made each one sound better than the last. From appetizers to dessert, everything was delicious! The courses were paced nicely, and the servers didn't hover yet appeared when needed. They even sang Happy Birthday to my mother, which was very sweet. This month my mother and I returned for an afternoon birthday celebration for my cousin. Nick was our engaging server and a young lady, Melissa (?) was sweet. Everyone enjoyed their selections; lobster ravioli, shrimp parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, and steak. For appetizers we chose oysters Rockefeller, zucchini sticks and mozzarella sticks. Surprised that there were only four mozzarella sticks, but not the end of the world. This time they serenaded my cousin much to her surprise and delight! Thankfully on both occasions the maitre'd had servers assist my mother in her wheelchair entering and leaving. All around, both occasions were good experiences and I would definitely return and recommend Buon Amici to others. Last comment is about posting. On New Year's Day, I was craving Italian food, specifically, a seafood pasta. All of the restaurants I enjoy in Little Italy in the Bronx were closed for the holiday. My cousin suggested three restaurants in White Plains; Buon Amici was one and fortunately it was open. From the outside, it looks like an old school Italian restaurant and therefore I was expecting tasty, homemade Italian food. When we walked in, we were seated pretty quickly, although the person who seated us was rather abrupt and cold; he barely said two words to us. Our waiter was quite good. He gave us a very long list of specials which I could not believe he memorized, and overall he was pleasant and attentive. I ordered lentil soup and linguine with shrimp and scallops. My husband ordered pork chops and mashed potatoes. The soup was good, although a little salty; the pasta was decent, but the sauce was not flavorful. It lacked that homemade Italian flavor that I was hoping for. The pork chops were a bit dry, but the mashed potatoes had a nice flavor. The owner seemed to be a nice guy to everyone but us. It was the strangest thing! He literally went around to every table but continuously walked past ours. The worst part is that he made eye contact with me several times. This made me feel very uncomfortable. Overall, our experience was not that great and it's not worth returning to this restaurant. read more

Stepped in this restaurant around 7PM a few weeks ago, was promptly seated. I sat down my drink order was literally put in the second I sat down. The plates that were finished were not on my table for more than two seconds. My drink was half done- they had a refill on the table. There was a kid playing by the exit to the kitchen door, they put a chair inside the kitchen by the exit door so no one hit the child. What I experienced at this restaurant was pure amazing service, the owners were great and now I will be a frequent. There is small details you don't think your customers will notice, but they do. I didn't even come as a customer and I feel compelled to tell everyone about the great service I witnessed and received! To clarify, I was hired by the customer for a private event to provide photo booth services. While I was setting up the staff & owner were very helpful, offering to help me bring in my equipment. Once the party started they treated me as a guest by offering me refreshments and a plate of food. The caesar salad was fresh and delicious. The penne a la vodka was tasty with plenty of sauce just waiting to be soaked up by the fresh bread & finally the seafood stuffed shrimp was to die for. We arrived around 1pm, and we were seated in a separate section, almost felt like a separate room - away from any of the other customers. Maybe it was because our small group included children? Additional customer that came after us was seated in the regular open dining section. We said yes to hearing about their specials but didn't expect it to be over 10 items. They lost our business today. Over a bowl of soup. We are regulars for years. My friend knows everyone. They all know him and greet him warmly. He has given many private events over the years. Today he wasn't hungry so he ordered just a bowl of the today's special lentil soup. I ordered veal parm, we had drinks and coffee with desserts. The bill comes and they charged $17.50 for the bowl of soup. First of all there was maybe 2" of soup in the bowl and maybe 10 lentils. Thin, watery and nothing like a proper lentil soup. To be polite, he didn't complain. It was awful. He didn't finish it. We were told we should have complained earlier. Now was too late. They would charge the $17.50. It's the principle here. We stopped in on a Friday night during a baseball game and sat at the bar. We ordered a delicious 16 oz steak, the red snapper and escargot in a shell. The steak was to die for!! Highly recommended. Ordered a dish with chicken and shrimp over pasta and the chicken had a rubbery boiled taste. They need to look up the definition of chicken Milanese....(I didn't order bruschetta!) it was extremely stuffy and hot inside the restaurant, jammed in our table with waiters reaching over people to hand us our entrees. Still upset about the order I placed on Christmas Eve at 4pm for delivery. I understood that it would not be delivered until 6pm. However at 7pm food did not arrive! I called and they said they it was out for delivery. Nope never got the order and I called back and they told me they are very busy and would not get to it now.... however they had time to charge me for the order! My first time here, a few friends and I had lunch. We sat at the large round table, in the center of the restaurant.The lunch menu was reasonably priced and included salad, entree and coffee/tea. The set-is simple and attractive - white cloth table cloths & cloth napkins. We received our salads, the green lettuce was white, there was way too much shredded carrot, and cabbage for me. The balsamic dressing was very scarce. So, eh, on the salad. My entree, Eggplant parm was delicious!!!! The red sauce was really good. Generous portions too. Coffee was rich and good too. 3.5 stars. They are a decent Italian restaurant that charges a little too much for what you get. I got the chicken marsala. While the chicken and mushrooms we're good, the portion size was lacking. It was thin and accompanied by only a few veggies. In other words, I paid quite a bit to leave still a little hungry. On the other hand, the service was impressive! I really struggled with whether I felt this place deserved two or three stars. I decided to go with two mainly because the place is simply so plain; and there is nothing special about it. My friend and I started off with fried calamari as an appetizer. It was good. Not great. The marinara sauce was kind of weak. The fish itself was not as crispy as I like it. But it was still good - I've certainly had worse. For dinner, I ordered shrimp parm. I did not like it at all. The fish had a very weird aftertaste. It almost tasted blubbery and oily. Because of this, I asked if I could order something else. I decided to just order chicken parm. It was good. The angel hair pasta they also served on the side was tasty. My friend had Eggplant Rollatini. He liked it. I also had some and it was pretty good. Overall, the dinner was good - not great. Nothing that drew me to want to return honestly. The restaurant has a large variety of desserts that they serve. We shared the nutella cheesecake. It was different from what we expected, but we both liked it. It was hard to decide because they did have a lot. * Overall, nothing about the place really made me want to come back. There are so many Italian restaurants, so I feel like a restaurant has to really stand out to me to be a good place to go to for Italian food. Some things that bothered me about the place was also that the service was good - but the waiter literally stood over you while you were eating. You felt pressured to order and hurry up. Also - the specials and desserts are not on a menu. So you have to listen to him name them all. And let me tell you..... there are so many!!! Kind of gets on my nerves how they have to rattle off the specials instead of showing them to you on a printed menu. For what you get, it's expensive $75 pp no alcohol my biggest issue really is the portion size and the sides. For example, the stuffed artichoke was good, however it was small compared to other places. The baked clams oreganata had a strange taste. However overall the food was pretty good. read more

HORRIBLE. I can't understand how this has 4 stars. We came here for a big family dinner (about 12 of us) and called about a month in advance asking to be seated off to the side or in one of the smaller rooms so that we could have a little more privacy for birthday gifts, etc... When we arrived at the restaurant we were told they weren't able to accommodate our request and instead seated us at a giant table in the middle of the tiny restaurant. They had WAY too many people packed into the small space and it was incredibly loud. Tables are shoved as close as possible to each other and servers are constantly bumping into you and each other as they try to navigate through. We could barely hear members of our party sitting next to us, so forget about trying to talk to anyone across the table. On top of that the waiters were constantly running through the restaurant yelling across and over our table and gesturing over our heads. On multiple occasions we had to duck to avoid trays being carried over our heads. The wait just to get out appetizers was at least 30 minutes and the store bought bread (without any olive oil or butter) didn't do much to tide us over. There are an excessive amount of specials... Honesty the waiter lost my attention after the second appetizer since I could barely hear him. The food was just okay, but like other people have said, not worth $20 a plate. Overall it was a huge disappointment. For a family that is only able to get together a couple times a year we were hoping for a more enjoyable dinner all together... But unfortunately left feeling pretty upset. read more

We drove up to valet parking in the pouring rain, saw no attendant, parking lot is packed like sardines as usual and we had a 5:00 PM reservation.We pulled up to a meter right past the lot, put in a quarter and meter said you needed the app to continue. That being said, drenched and wanting to be prompt we left car in spot and assumed it would be fine, especially New Year's Eve! While eating the wet, wilted and tasteless salad we casually asked waiter about our car and he said not to worry. Well, sure enough we got a ticket! This is not a waiter issue. We called the next day, thinking this establishment would take care of the ticket. INSTEAD THE MAN SCREAMED I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHERE YOU EAT! Completely disappointing. Aside from messing up our reservation, we sat for 90 minutes after appetizers were finished waiting for our main courses. Our waiter kept saying, "A couple of minutes, folks" when we were clearly getting annoyed and still, 25 minutes after he first said that, no food. We were seated at 7:15 pm and still waiting at 9:45 pm for our food. We finally canceled the order and just left. A horrible evening. Lots of other Italian restaurants. Go to one of those. read more
