I saw all the bad reviews and did not have high hopes for this spot, originally we were trying to go to Gypsys accross the street but they stop taking orders at 11:45. We came here at about 12 and ordered on the tablets, they had a lot of options we ultimately choose a crispy chicken sandwich, double cheese burger, fries, mac n cheese and a hot link Philly cheesesteak with two soft drinks and a banana pie milkshake. The chicken sandwich was SO GOOD, probably the second best one I've had in the bay aside from south station chicken sandwiches. The fries were fresh and crispy, Mac n cheese was mid though too watered down. The hot link Philly cheesesteak was good but it could of been better if we kept the lettuce and other toppings. The double cheese burger was good but nothing special. Garlic crispy chicken sandwich 5/5 Hot link Philly cheesesteak 3/5 Mac n cheese 2/5 Fries 4/5 Banana shake 5/5 Double cheeseburger 3/5 Overall a 3.5/5 The service was bad though they didn't even try to greet us or take our order we had to assume we had to use the table but they made the food quick and fresh. I ordered the cheesesteak and it was okay. It was very oily and definitely hits the spot if you're hungry late at night. I don't think the proportion is worth the price. After a day of heavy drinking, I looked to Bunz for a carb-heavy meal that'd soak up the residual alcohol remaining in my system. While it did the job, Bunz is not the best sandwich restaurant by any stretch of the imagination. But, despite being incredibly decent, they're definitely reliable which comes in handy if you're looking for food in a pinch. My order was ready in just under 7 minutes which was 15 minutes faster than what SnackPass initially predicted. I never would've guessed that I'd be the person to pay money for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a meal I learned how to make as soon as I learned how to walk, but my laziness knows no bounds. Today, I ordered a PB and J melt on Texas toast. The sandwich was just okay. The toast was overtly saturated in butter, even taking on a yellow hue throughout. To my surprise, it wasn't that decadent. In fact, it was rather dry with the thick toast overpowering the sandwich's contents. Though this might just be user error, I also didn't like the fact that the sandwich was quite literally stuffed with jelly as the consistency was more jell-o-esque instead of a fruity spread. Perhaps if they used jam, I'd have a better eating experience. Overall, I did get what I paid for and the cost wasn't horribly expensive -- just 7 dollars. Perhaps I'll try one of their milkshakes or burgers next time, but I'll probably stick with Super Duper down the street. read more

My stomach was growling like crazy and I was in the mood for some good ol' fashion American food. I came at around 11:30 pm and it was still busy. The restaurant's space was compact and could not fit any big groups, so the majority of the customers were waiting outside of the restaurant. When I walked in, I was amazed by the decor- a bright yellow background with doodles plastered all over the wall. I ordered the Pastrami Melt and a Banana Cream Dream. It was understandable that I had to wait for 15 minutes because there were so many orders ahead of me, but the real reason why I rated this place a two stars is mainly because of the food and prices. For $8.99, it was basically a thick bread with a thin layer of pastrami. Not only was it very minimal, but they didn't even put any caramelized onions like it stated in the menu. Order this if you only want a mouthful of bread. For the dessert, the Banana Cream Dream was the worst banana cream pie I have ever tasted. The crust is crumbly and was just tasteless. The filling tasted so artificial- like those banana candies you get at the mall. The slice I got was quite small too. Definitely not worth $3.99! Best freaking French fries hands down! Out of this world!, even when delivered or next day as left overs. The burgers are also great especially the fact they offer BBEF BACKN!! No more phony bacon or half attempts with turkey, beef bacon is the closest to real bacon, pork bacon that is since it's the bacon of a cow.. not sure if that's how anatomy works in the butcher work lol but it's damn good bacon and I can imagine a certain clientele who would be flocking at the doors. It's so hard to find pork alternatives that's still meat and taste great. The brand they use for beef bacon must be similar to the ones sold at Whole Foods bc my dad buys them by the cases. Was here on Friday for the first time, as I was in that part of Berkeley for the first time since February and I had never heard of this establishment. I got there just before they opened and I was the only one in there. The menu is huge and I ended up getting the Pastrami fries and a Hot Link Steak (house sauce, cheddar cheese, BBQ beef hot link, steak, grilled onions lettuce and tomatoes). Got burgers twice. The Bunz Ah Way burger was fine, heavy as expected and slightly dry mac and cheese, but solved my cravings. The cheeseburger looked nothing like the picture and was kind of crushed and sad. The lemon merengue pie was overly sweet, the merengue itself is a little less fluffy than something you'd get from Nation's. But they do open til very late and appear to be a small business, so I would probably give them 4 stars for the hours and the variety. My low review is mostly from the lack diligence for COVID protocol. When they first opened, I tried to come here twice, but neither the cashier nor the cook were wearing masks. There was only one order in front of us and they didn't even start cooking the beef until 15 min later. People in the kitchen were just standing around and sweeping the floors. I got the Hawaiian Philly cheesesteak because I'm a fan of cheesesteaks, this just didn't cut it for me tho. The flavor was there but when you get the sandwich it looks more like a loaf of bread than anything. Do not recommend if you have a big appetite.
