Food and service here is amazing! The owner is very kind and friendly, speaking to all of the tables. It's very hard to find a place that sells Vietnamese style grilled seafood (oysters) in general and I think this place does it so well! The shellfish is reasonably priced. We got the oysters with green onions. The sauce was incredible on its own and had a good amount of flavor, compared to other green onion sauces I've had. They also give you a spicy dipping sauce on the side that elevated the dish even more. It's like a tangy, spicy and kind of coconut-y sauce (he said it was a secret, house made sauce). My boyfriend got the special pho, which was a huge portion. He liked the broth a lot. I got the shaking beef, and my only critique was that it didn't taste like authentic shaking beef, more like a black pepper beef dish. Everything on the menu was really well priced. You get a good amount of food for what you're paying for. And honestly it's a deal compared to what you'd have to pay somewhere else. I am definitely coming back to eat more of the seafood!!

grilled bloody clams with green onions

Great customer service and the place deserves more hype. The grilled bloody clams were my favorite and I already ordered it togo twice. The spotted snails were more chewy and harder to get it out of the shells. Both were fine with the yummy dipping sauce but I won't order them again purely because it was hard to get them out. Also ordered the snail with coconut sauce, but didn't take a picture. Snail meat was tiny and hard to suck them out, but the coconut sauce was on point! Overall very decent Vietnamese snails options, I just wish they also have the fish sauce for dipping. I will definitely be back for the clams and probably give the razor clams a try.

This place completely satisfied my taste buds -- 100%. The four best seller dishes are all must-try dishes!!!! The pineapple fried rice with their special sour and hot sauce is sooooo good, and the mango sticky rice dessert is also incredible!! Definitely a must try!! 绝了!绝绝子!

Absolutely obsessed with these oysters -- so fresh they practically tasted like they were just pulled from the water.

The food and service were great. Ordered all the best sellers, and really enjoyed the scallops and oysters. Their spicy white dipping sauce was amazing too!

Great food at a very good price and comes in a good portion. Service was great and kept on checking up on us. The restaurant interior just makes me feel like I'm at home eating a nice home cooked meal. Everything was flavorful and savory and not even bland. This spot I would say is underrated and people should come here and give it a try!

Tom Yum Noodle Bowl It was so good I didn't let the camera eat first!

Our friend recommended this place to try from xiao hong shu and it was sooo delicious! I didn't even take photos of everything we got but everything was a hit! I don't really eat seafood which is what they are known for so I was a little nervous going but they had so many options I didn't have any issues choosing something delicious without seafood! I got the tom yum noodle soup which was perfect for this fall weather we have been having! The khao soi was also soooo delicious, very impressive! They got some oysters to split too which looked and honestly smelled really good too and they said they really enjoyed them! The prices I felt were pretty fair too, I think my soup was $15 or so and I even had leftovers! The service was sooo good too! I think it's a mom and pop restaurant and the gentleman at the front was so friendly and made excellent recommendations! He kept checking to see how we were doing and had such a warm and kind presence and smile! It's rare to find this type of hospitality in restaurants nowadays I feel so this was definitely refreshing! I will definitely be coming back and am glad I found this hole in the wall secret gem restaurant!

Fried chicken wings

This place has potential. I've been here twice and everything I've had so far has been decent but good. My first time I had a sampling of their appetisers and noodles. I first went with the roti and curry. The deep fried beef and the chicken wings. For the main dish I had the pad see ew. When asked how spicy I said " how spicy, 1-5?" He said "yes" so I said "5". 5 being the spiciest. Of course as all concerning Asian restaurant owners and cooks go he was like "you sure?" I said "yes lol". Of course this went back and forth but I assured him. I'm happy they care because sometimes people don't, regardless of race or creed. They'll send you to hell without a mint and move on to the next. I also ordered a Thai tea and enjoyed it while I waited. He saw I was thirsty and promised me a refill on my way out which was very accommodating and made me feel more appreciative. It took roughly fifteen minutes for my food which came out upon completion until were stacked up perfectly. I went to a little spot down by the water and went in. My first dish was the roti. It was my first time. Now even though it was my first time I have a feeling it was a frozen dish to which they might've heat up and a made a simple curry to go along with it. It was ok. The next were the chicken wings. Again I think frozen or pre made. Nothing to think about and would never order again. The next appetiser though was good. The deep fried beef. It was like eating cooked jerky but way better flavour. I'd order that again no question. So besides the jerky everything was like meh so far. When I opened the container holding the pad see ew I immediately knew I had a winner. Still piping hot from the wok. The container itself burned my thighs so I needed a barrier to prevent further scalding. I could smell the spices. It was aromatic and pungent but it didn't burn my nostrils. But it definitely let them know that a burn was imminent and not just temperature wise. I especially took joy in smelling the white pepper used. It's one of my favourite ingredients. I grabbed my chopsticks and went in. Now I know why the man asked me if I was sure. It. Was. SPICY HEHEHEJEJ. I've had spicier but not on a while and honestly the older I get the less spicy I get. But this blew me away. I mean don't get me wrong. It had great flavor. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The vegetables still had snap. And the beef was perfection. But the spice took me for a ride. I had to finish it the next day but it was still delicious. Now every time I've been there there's family eating seafood and pho. I've had their panang curry with sticky rice and wished it was more but I stilled enjoyed it. But I think the thing to do is to go and sit down and eat in and order the seafood and the snails. Plus the shellfish. When Om able to I will. I'm how this place survives because the stuff se really nice and pleasant. I believe they are family owned. Try them out.

Shrimp Papaya Salad

The food was amazing and tasted of fresh quality! And the papaya salad was the perfect amount of spice and you can adjust to your liking. The chicken fried rice has a lot of flavor with the rice itself and everything brought it together. By far my favorite is the mango sticky rice and would recommend to anyone who comes. Mango was juicy and the rice is visually pleasing and tastes just as great! I took some roti dip home to try for the first time and I'm happy I did! It's minced chicken with lots of flavor and some flatbread that compliments it so good. If you like something tasty but simple as an appetizer this is a great choice!

Sò Lông Nướng Sate/Grilled bloody clams with spicy sauce

We ordered flower snail, bloody clam, razor clam, scallops they are all tasty. The flower snail is a must order the lemongrass sauce is nice adding refreshing smell but can still taste the snail. Service is really attentive.

We ordered an abundant spread, and every dish impressed. The clear crowd favorite was the Singapore black pepper prawns - fragrant, perfectly spiced, and completely addictive. That black pepper sauce was hands down the star of the meal: rich, peppery, and deeply flavorful. It was my favorite and could easily be eaten on everything. The Mala curry crab and XO crab were both outstanding; layered with complex, indulgent flavors. The Thai green chili clams and saus mentega clams were vibrant and comforting, while the crab fried rice had generous morsels of crab folded throughout the dish. We also really enjoyed the Indonesian chicken wings, which were crispy and flavorful, and the stir-fried vegetables, which added a fresh, well-balanced contrast to the seafood-heavy menu. Everything traveled well, was thoughtfully prepared, and made for an unforgettable catered meal. If you're considering catering from Marimakan Crabhouse, I can't recommend it highly enough. Get the black pepper sauce! Amazing from start to finish, and Chef V or Rachel is lovely to work with.

And their house-made fish dips are amazing. You walk in to a shelf full of solid-value wines, mostly local, aimed to pair with whatever you might take home with you to cook. The ceilings are high, and the walls and floors are all spotless white. No decorations, very little merchandising, if any. There's a long butcher case on the left full of all kinds of crazy treats. Prawns the size of bratwursts. Steaks, roasts, different fish. They skip most of the stuff that supermarkets carry and focus only on more-specialty stuff. Their stock is either a nicer version or it's something that's unavailable elsewhere. You do pay for quality like this on some of the stuff, but if you're cooking a meal you're really looking forward to, the value makes it reasonable. Not everything is expensive, either. They had fresh lemons on the case for 40% less than the supermarket up the street. They had reds, whites, bubblies, and pinks in the wine section with every bottle under $20. And those fish dips, man. I'm surprised they don't sell out by afternoon every day. We had wild salmon and black cod dips before dinner last night, and both were fantastic. They're very well balanced, so maybe you could add hot sauce or fresh herbs to taste, but we've had them several times and never felt compelled to tune them up. The dudes behind the butcher case have decades of industry experience, and they couldn't be nicer, more patient, or more helpful. I love shopping here.

Food was definitely better this time around. I opted with the seafood salad, which was what it sounded like. The one thing that stood out to me were the smoked scallops, which I could have just ate a whole plate of. There was a fair amount of seafood amongst the plate. Tip: Mondays are half price bottled wine, which was probably the best deal of the night. Now for my salad and bowl of soup I think was around $50+. I'm not afraid to spending money, but I can say you must be paying for the view, and I get it. But the overall price we paid. Idk. The service was a glaring issue, in which I think there were a total of maybe 10 tables that were taken in the whole restaurant. The server was nice enough, but not attentive at all. Now I'm not going to lie the birthday boy set up his dinner for 7pm on a Monday. We did not know that Ivars closed at 8....and no one even told us at any point. I get this was to be polite, but had we known we probably would have been out of there a lot earlier. We did end up leaving at 10 to 9, but probably could have been gone a lot earlier had anyone mentioned that they closed at 8 or we didn't have to wait for our bill for 20+ minutes. I did feel bad after knowing we stayed so late, but like I said there was a definite lack of communication. Also one last thing. Charging for the bread, I don't know if that's new, but seems rather silly to me. I feel like I'm being generous with the 4 star review, in actuality closer to 3.5, I just feel bad making them stay until after close.

Took me awhile to decide on what to order lol. Settled with steak bites, steamed clams, crab and artichoke dip, fried cod and salad with salmon. We loved the steak bites! Crab dip was also good. My fried cod and fries was really good. Crispy outside and juicy cod inside. Slaw and tartar sauce were all on point. My friends salmon salad was really delicious too. And what we ordered was so good. So. Good. I ordered the salmon burger, a juicy piece of salmon embraced in a toasted bun with simple lettuce, tomato, and mayo along for the ride. Some weeks ago, I'd had a similar sandwich at a reputed spot in Pike Place market. The Hook's was much better, and I have been thinking about ordering it again for two days now. Their fries were also some of the best I've had in town, and I'm not usually excited about fries. My family all had panko-crusted halibut (fish and chips style), and this, too was shockingly good. It was even tasty and crisp as leftovers reheated in the air fryer! (I know, I know, but who is throwing away fish in this economy?) I am but a humble Yelper and have learned my lesson.
