We purchased 2 new bikes online, performed the small amount of assembly required and attempted to use them. They supposedly were tuned up at the factory to be operational but we found the gears and brakes to be poorly adjusted and the front wheels on both bikes were out of round. Realizing why the instruction books that came with the bikes began every section with 'We highly recommend you have the bike professionally tuned' we did some research finding that Bullseye has a great reputation and reasonable fees. We first took the front wheels to have them adjusted to them and within a day they had them ready for us. Having seen how competent, conscientious, professional, and responsive they were we dropped both bikes off to have them tuned up one the weekend and we had them back working superbly by that Tuesday. They take what they do seriously and are highly customer-focused. Totally recommend them. read more

I bought two bikes for my teens here several years ago and it was the best decision ever. We've had to do some repairs over the years, and the crew that works here are phenomenal. Always friendly, professional, and not judgmental with my lack of knowledge when it comes to making bike repairs on my own. Came in today to get a flat tire repaired and wanted to learn how to do it myself. The gentleman took the time to explain in detail how to take the wheel off, put the new tire on, and assemble it back together. I am so grateful that this place is here. Incompetent and/or Lazy and Rude So, I had a bike with some sticky shifters. I had looked up on YouTube how to repair them and basically you take the cover off the shifters and spray some degreaser in there and fiddle with a metal lever they call a "paw" until it's springy again, and you're done. It actually looks like kind of a pain, but it can be done. Actually, I know for a fact it can be done because I've had it done before. I took another bike in to The Clean Machine in Chapel Hill years ago with the same issue and they fixed it. So, today when I showed the problem to a guy at Bullseye I was surprised when he said it couldn't be fixed. I told him the problem and he pushed on the shifter and said sometimes some lube works, and I started to say I had already tried that on the shifter he wasn't pressing, and then he said, curtly, "It can't be fixed." I said in a polite tone, "I think it can" and I was going to follow up by telling him how I had had a similar problem with another bike and it had been fixed at The Clean Machine but he cut me off, by throwing his arms wide and basically saying, "Then you do it!" Oh, OK. If I felt like having an argument or explaining, I would have said, "I CAN do it, but I CHOSE to come here because last time I was here, actually the last two times I was here the OTHER people here (I think the owner among them), were really nice, and I thought, you know what, I could fix this, but since they were so nice I should give them some business. They can probably do it quicker then I can. They might even enjoy the challenge of it. I mean, they are bike mechanics." But no, I didn't get to explain because this guy was so angry and defensive, all because I said I think it can be fixed. I wasn't going to argue with him and beg him to take my money, so I just said, "I'll take it somewhere else." He said some other prickish thing under his breath as I walked off, but I didn't hear it, and I didn't care to, so I just repeated, "I'll take it somewhere else." Who did I deal with? I didn't get his name, but he was a short, bald, old guy. So, if you need your bike repaired, I'd go somewhere else. I've had good experiences with The Clean Machine in Chapel Hill. Or, just check out YouTube. There's basically a video about how to repair anything. To be fair, two out of three experiences were positive and two out of three people I dealt with were great, but when you have such a negative experience like this, you're like, "You know what, forget it." read more

Haven't been inside of this place due to covid 19 but I'm beyond impressed. I went here to buy some bike lube for my new mountain bike and I have nearly 0 biking experience. I asked him if I needed anything else and he totally could have up sold me anything but he said I should be good for now as long as I have helmet. He even said I shouldn't need lube for a couple weeks because they come lubed. He offered to take a look at my shifter cable that got pinched during shipping and was super flexible. My husband and I stopped in just to check out the used bikes and met with Tyler (the owner) who was very helpful -- not "salesy" at all - and, we ended up buying 2 really nice secondhand mountain bikes. Yes, we probably paid a bit more than buying one off of ebay or nextdoor, but just knowing they were checked over, tuned up & safe was worth the money - and, Tyler helped us pick out the best bikes for our budget and height. Plus, knowing we're helping a small business in the town we now call home, it's all good (and they live & breathe bikes there, so ask them anything!) I appreciate that they come at you with an open perspective. These guys changed my biking experience from drab to fab! I went in after popping tires on my (inexpensive) Schwinn. Tyler was beyond nice and shared a map of bike trails in Durham plus a few personal recommendations. When I got my bike back after a full tune-up, it was in infinitely better shape than when I bought it new. I took my first 10-mile+ ride -- staying in gears 5/6 instead of 1/2 for the first time in my life and finally getting to a decent speed -- because these guys *know what they are doing* and she rode like a dream! OK we are new to the area....having moved back to NC after 28 years in NH....our bikes had been in storage for a couple of years anticipating the move and needed to be checked over...I always go to YELP and here was a bike shop with top notch reviews so I called...they were open and I met Johhny and he gave me some advice on what to do once our new bike carrier came in....as soon as the carrier came in I went back over and this time met Tyler (the owner) and knew we would get along just fine with his Red Sox hat ! This bike shop is located in the heart of Downtown Durham, and has the most knowledgable and friendly employees around! I purchased my first adult bike (after not having ridden in 15+ years) from them last year and had an excellent sales experience--the rep I worked with was not pushy at all, answered every question I had, and had plenty of helpful tips for me as a new rider. Since my initial purchase, I've gone into the shop a few times for miscellaneous things and always received quick help. I got a hybrid bike and all of the accessories I needed. Every worker that talked to me was very friendly and helpful. The person who helped me answered all of my questions and I was able to take the bike he recommended for a test ride around the block to make sure I liked it. I was having trouble with my hand going numb while riding and so I took the bike to the store to get the seat and handle bars adjusted and now it is so much better. Bullseye is the 5th bike shop I visited this week looking for a bike -- and I think their pricing is the best value in town. Today I bought a hybrid bike and several attachments, like a wrack for the back, a lock, a highbeam light, and tire repair kit. All together it cost me $799 including putting it all together. The staff are friendly, personable and knowledgeable. They did a good job of pointing out pros and cons of attachments I was considering, made sure I understood how it worked and went together and sent me off a happy customer. Took the bike out for a 30 mile ride about an hour after buying it. Rides great -- and I'm really glad I opted for the hybrid (as opposed to a road bike) because the trails I rode on were not all paved. I recently got back into biking after being a runner for quite some time, and being that I work in Durham (live in Cary), I thought I'd take my 20-something year old Giant Iguana to these folks to see if they could get it tuned up while I searched for a replacement. Tyler got it working as best he could, but it was going to need new parts and it just seemed best to expedite replacing the Iguana. I would have gladly bought a new bike from them, but with limited supply of the Giant Roam 3 that I wanted, they couldn't get one immediately, so ended up getting one from a Giant retailer. But I've continued with taking the new Roam to these guys just because they've always been such a big help from that initial visit with the Iguana to any other questions/issues I've tossed their way. Just had maintenance done on the Roam and it's running as good as it was when it was brand new....maybe even a bit better!! All this is to say that these guys know their craft and if you're looking for a reputable bike shop, pay these folks a visit!! read more
